Hey Todd, I'm a recent subscriber to your channel, and I just want to thank you for putting out such great content. I'm a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area, and have gotten really obsessed with fishing in the last few years. So glad I found your channel for learning and seeing someone local give tips and info that loves our waters as much as I do. Keep up the great work!

I had a good trip in Lake Catherine that same morning. Some of the prettiest specs I’ve ever caught in the Rigolets. Tide was moving around the points and the specs were there. Enjoyed the video MMM, keep em coming my brotha!

Thanks for the report. Glad you had some moving water. People sometimes complain about a tide that's too strong, but the toughest days for me are those with no water movement. I felt fortunate to catch the fish I did.

Ok which gear ratio is best for specs. 6.3.1 or 7.0.1
@MarshManMasson6 жыл бұрын
Hard to say one is necessarily better than the other. Depends on your reel cadence and the type of fishing you're doing. Generally, when deep-jigging, I like a reel that can take up line quickly. Admittedly, however, sometimes that can hurt you with a medium-heavy-powered rod and braided line. There's not a whole lot of give when fighting a trout, so sometimes what gives is the fish's flesh, and you lose it.
@leegresham31756 жыл бұрын
Hey Marsh Man Masson, over the next few days, should I go to the trestles or the rock wall near bayou bienvenue? And for the trestles, is most of the action on the south side, in the middle, or on the north side?
@MarshManMasson6 жыл бұрын
That changes by the day. Literally. You never know where the fish are going to be most concentrated on any given day. I like to work 50- to 100-yard stretches, and then move a mile or so. I don't like the Trestles when water temps are in the low 50s, which they'll probably be over the next few days. Upper 50s are fine, and lower 60s are better.
@doublethefunoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Good stuff Todd! I’ve dove all those bridges and the reason the trestles are usually better is bc there still is old wood piling under it and in many spots a shell bottom. There’s about twice as much structure under the surface that what you can see above.

Always great bumping into friends on the water. That's one of the aspects of the sport I most enjoy. I started fishing Matrix Shad long before I had any idea who Chas Champagne was. Funny story: My son Joel and I were fishing seven years ago, and Joel was throwing a shrimp creole Matrix Shad while I threw other things. On the truck ride out, he had been ranting and raving about how good the Matrix Shad was, and having never fished on, I told him all soft-plastics are basically the same. During the trip, he got up on me 12 to nothing while I threw a various assortment of baits from my tackle box. It took my stubborn self that long to ask him for a MS. As soon as I did, the catch ratio went to 1:1. Not many days later, I put a MS in a pool, and discovered why there was such a difference. The tail action is head and shoulders above everything else.
@eachwon46576 жыл бұрын
@@MarshManMasson Great video as usual Todd. Ironically, I had the same experience with my old man as Joel did with you. He also gave me that "all plastics are the same" spill. Of course he's an old school Sparkle Beetle fisherman, but once I started throwing a bunch of trout & bass on the boat using a Lemon Head MS he had a change of heart real quick. 🎣 😅

Why do you use a baitcaster a lot?
@MarshManMasson6 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of reasons, but the two most important are casting accuracy and sensitivity. Because the line is resting on the top side of the rod rather than on the bottom of the guides, subtle strikes are easier to detect.
