I started crying within a minute in, I’ve been wanting to ask my parents to let me have therapy I asked them for help once when I was literally having a mental break down and I want to ask them again, I live in Connecticut where not many people talk publicly about there health problems. Sometime I wish I could talk to someone and I wish my parents would understand that sometimes I would prefer someone but them. Especially with my brother affecting my mental health.

I'm in Connecticut too!! Trust me, we're out there and we're talking about mental health with each other. Have you considered talking to your parents about group therapy? May help you not feel so alone to connect with others who are going through it, too. You're taking a great step by getting ready to talk with them either way. They can't help if they don't know or understand how you feel. You got this!!

im scared to get therapy im scared that my parents will worry

Totally get that. New experiences can be a bit scary because they are unknown. Though they can also be exciting, too. It's kind of you to worry about your parents. Keep in mind that your parents will likely worry about you regardless because that's what happens when you care about people. Therapy can help you talk to them in a way that eases both of your worries about each other. You got this!!

Ive. been wanting to ask my parents to take me to therapy but my communication skills are bad especially when it comes to my mental health and personal problems. Every time i think about going and asking them, my anxiety gets in the way and i get too nervous. Even if i practice what to say, my voice gets shaky and i back out. But thats one of the reasons i want to go, is to work on my communication skills and mental health. I never have a deep conversation with my parents and im sure they will let me go but that isnt easing my nerves.

Totally makes sense- have you tried to write it in a letter and give it to them?

@@mallorygrimste sorry i never saw this. I ended up asking my mom though! We kind of sat in silence for like 10 minutes and then i asked if i could just text it to her so thats what i did and she said yes. Its kind of interesting because that same day my best friend texted me telling me about how she just started going.

I would think about what they value and their incentives. So if your parents really want you to succeed academically you could say not addressing ur mental health is impeding that. Or say something like we've always been fighting lately and you'd like to learn how to better communicate and manage your emotions and not doing so could affect how you interact with others as an adult. Maybe another thing you could do is ask your pediatrician to talk to your parents and explain why it's important, if it's coming from another adult and especially a doctor some parents will take it more seriously. If you want to go above and beyond you could also look into/research details of how much it would cost, which therapists/psychologists you'd like, etc. Make it as easy for them as possible, the less work they have to do the more likely for them to say yes.

My mom said that I’m jealous of my brother-

That could be an excellent thing to focus on in therapy 😉

Thank you so much for sharing 💕 it’s a major reason I started the channel. I know teens are looking for help and wanted to be sure they were able to find responsible help :)

hello:( thank you so much for this, really helpful. i will try to confess to my mom and ask for help. i hope it will go well, she's the only person that i trust the most when it comes to this kind of topic. and if she refuses and calls me crazy i think i would just end up kms.. . . just kidding
@mallorygrimste2 ай бұрын
Best of luck to you! And if she refuses or calls you crazy, you've got LOTS of other options besides the one you mentioned 😉 One thing I remind everyone is the teen years don't last forever, and at some point you'll be in a position to obtain your own therapist without parent permission if they're not receptive now. Plus there are crisis lines, self-help resources (like the free videos on this channel), and other supportive helpers like school counselors. While they don't replace therapy, they can be excellent supports along the way. You got this!!
