Dan does his own interruptions too. Steven and Dan are both fine on their own, but I tend to not always care for them together. I think if they could just learn to bicker and joke less with each other it would be better.

I'm currently finishing pre-med, and I think your advice is invaluable. I've seen many classmates who are incredibly smart and others who seem lucky, but the ones who truly stand out are those who are consistent-the ones who show up every day. For me, 'showing up' means studying daily, asking questions in class, and shadowing doctors. If you commit to all of that and more, it’s only a matter of time before there's a significant difference in the kind of doctor you become, compared to those who are just 'smart' or 'lucky'.

I really like the direction you're going right now. The end was cute. Hope to see you keep showing up. You can definitely apply this idea to everything related to health/fitness. If you're relentless in your consistency with the basics, the details don't matter that much (unless you're trying to be a world-class athlete or something)

I know the context here is tech. But i run a small trucking company and this advice even feels relevant. Turning up, showing youre consistnt and just adding something to what your offering and marketing and any element to your business on a consistent "showing up" basis is just the thing that has led me even to my small success. Not smart ( dropped out), not lucky... no random oppertunities. But just consistent. Consistent improving and just trying.

This felt like a dad giving me career advice. My dad works pretty hard and is pretty successful himself but I've never really gotten any kind of guidance or mentorship or whatever, just never had that talk. I just never remembered to ask him as well. Either way, just wanted to say that this is pretty solid advice thats coming at a time that im delaying starting to apply for positions in my area and get my career going. I hate linkedin, I hate cold emailing, I am not a networking kind of person. But i should leverage those things, or as you put, I should be "showing up" more. This is pretty solid real-life experience based advice beyond the cringe marketing quotes or just vague lessons from gurus. Very insightful Dan, thank you.

Some really great points in here! I just have to say the part where Dan started talking about how he met his wife, and his face just kinda lit up was so cute so see! I would love to see some talks about relationships - dating phase, long term, keeping it fresh, whatever it might be. I feel like you have some great wisdoms to share in that department as well!

Honestly some super insightful stuff, and I think it struck me. Just showing up. I lost my job in April and haven’t had the motivation to try, been dark spot and financial situation but, I think this is what I needed to hear honestly. I’m in a bit of a quarter life crisis of what am I even doing, what do I even have a passion for, and I think I’ve over complicated it so much that I forget to simply show up.

I think this could be applied to a lot of different aspects of success. For example making friends. Being successful in my life has over time become less about trying to make money and more about just being a stable, reliable, and a respected member of my community. Show up to events. Show up to hangouts. Show up when someone needs help. Just always being available. Reaching out to people. Hear someone is moving? Ask if they need anything. Just try to be present. With experience you learn to not lose yourself to the whims and problems of others, because that can happen. Knowing what you can give and when. Of course not being an annoying persistent salesman about it. Just being the guy that shows up gains a lot of appreciation and leads to growing a network of friends and support which can lead to other aspects of success, such as jobs.

man this advice has me conflicted. one one had i don't like the relentless salesman who just keeps talking and never gives you room to breath and think. I acknowledge it works just cause eventually either people give in or you find those few people who actually like what you're talking about. i just want some room to think about what you said. on the other had i kinda get what you're saying about always showing up. one example is with friendships. if you don't take the time to actually organize things with your friends and hang out with them then don't be surprised when they start to lose touch with you. another is with trying to learn a new skill like programming or painting. if you don't take the time to practice it every day or every other day then don't be surprised when it goes away. i still think their is a way to balance it so that you "always show up" with out being the "relentless salesman". And personally, for me, finding that balance will actually get me to show up everyday. instead of trying to be the "relentless salesman" for a week and then burning out and not showing up for a few months.
