no but actually the way you break down every avenue of the process of even beginning to start on these kind of things are sooo helpful. a lot of "self help girlies" on youtube kind of just throw random, vague advise at their audience and it feels kind of hard to realistically impliment without feeling like youre doing it wrong. i really appriciate the way you give so many examples and even relate it to your own experience in the past, its really hard hitting stuff ! you've really inspired me to rewrite myself as well

In case anyone else is struggling to narrow down their core values here's what I did: 1. Go through the list (I used the same one she did in the video) and just highlight every word that resonates with you. 2. Take the highlighted words and group them by meaning (eg. liberty, independence, and freedom might go together, or fun, humor, and joy go together) 3. Take the 5 biggest groups and pick one word from each to represent that core value. Tada~ There's your 5 core values! Just figured I'd share since I'm way too indecisive to narrow a 200 word list down to 5, and this made it easier for me :P

I just turned 49 and I love watching your videos for two reasons: 1. I remember so much of this angst from my 20s. You're not alone! Many (maybe most, maybe all) of us go through this too, and just living through your life will help teach you how to "contain multitudes". I hope that's not condescending, I mean for it to be reassuring. 2. I spent the last 3 years helping out my increasingly ill and infirm parents, culminating in 2023 in hospitals, a nursing home, and their deaths. So much of *me* has been my role of "caregiving adult child" that I'm once again stopping to think "just who the f am I??!!". So, this is one of the new life phases where your advice is very helpful (even to middle-aged Gen X ladies). Thank you!
@EnchantedXennial
@EnchantedXennial 4 ай бұрын
Also GenX and agreed. Sorry to hear about your losses. A YTer said (sorry I can’t remember who to credit) looking back your highs are never as high as they felt in the moment but your lows are never as low as they felt at that moment either. IDK if that helps, but it clicked for me. Lost my Dad in 2018 and my Mom is on the other side of the country with dementia. Here’s to figuring out who the eff we are in our late 40s!

The advice in this video was very revolutionary for me personally. Sometimes I get so hung up in my "identity" I forget that it changes day by day and the fact that, that isn't a bad thing. Your video really helped me gain clarity on what matters most to me. It seems obvious... but looking at these five words as almost a mantra keeps you grounded while also embracing change

watching this as a Buddhist is a pretty interesting ride. this is basically the gen z version of anatta (no-self) and anicca (impermanence) with some healthy doses of dukkha (suffering), the three characteristics or marks of existence. anyway, you're very entertaining, this is wonderfully edited, and really enjoyed this. dramatically gazing over a body of water is also my favorite way to find myself (:

I’ve become disengaged with my search for myself, part of me thinks I’m too old to “discover” anything about myself anymore - like that was for when I was younger, and if I didn’t find anything good or interesting already, that means it isn’t there at all. Something about this video reminded me that there’s no reason to stop trying to understand myself better. Change and growth really are continuous, and if I feel detached from myself that may be something I can fix with a little attention. Thank you for sharing something authentic and thoughtful with me. ❤

Charly, your last video on how to ACTUALLY change your life was so inspiring and I can't believe you've done it again with this one! This year I'm looking to change that part of my life entirely. I've rejected my own needs for others for FAR too long and I'm ready to take the reins on life and actually enjoy it instead of worrying what others will think. It's going to be so hard starting out but I know that difficulty now will become proof of capability. I'm so excited to take these steps and it's so comforting and inspiring to see this video when I'm going through it all now.

this video was so refreshing. there’s so much pressure to create resolutions for ourselves that aren’t even based in our idea of who we are but rather who others want us to be or who they appear to be. the binging the self care advice is so real and i’ve had to learn to listen to my own inner voice/guide. figure out what works for me, what i need adjusting in my life, reflecting on my standards and things i want to learn in this lifetime, and want to experience. thank you for such a thought provoking, introspective conversation. also the “dont yuck on my yum” part absolutely KILLED me😭 youre hilarious

Another great video! I think establishing those core moral values is really important to understanding the "self." I remember a while back I made a list of tenets for myself that I try to live by, and it's such a good exercise to think about your thinking and your beliefs. We are fluid and change, and it can be so easy to be scared of becoming someone else, but being alive is a process and not a single point in time, and I think that that's way more comforting than being stuck in one box labeled with my name. Happy 2024, I'm excited to watch more of what you make. :)

First let me say, I love your videos. I have been trying to identify my core value too around New Years, as I have stumbled upon the concept in another video. Both creativity and community are up there. The first one was pretty obvious for me as I kind of always knew I valued creativity, but the second one already explains so much for me. I never really noticed before, how much community matters to me. Compassion is big one too. So it makes sense why you're videos resonate with me. As for the other core values, I feel like I still have to figure out which ones I really see as a priority.

Your videos are so challenging to watch (but in a good way, don’t worry)! I tried to listen to them like you listen to a podcast, when you just put on headphones and go do your skincare routine or organize your room, but I kept feeling like I wasn’t really understanding everything (maybe also because English is my second language, I guess? Your subtitles are a life saver, by the way) and it just annoyed me because I really relate to you, your crises and journey, so anyways, what I want to say is that you are one of the few creators that make me want to actually sit down and pay full attention to what I’m watching. I used Scott Jeffrey's method from his list of 200 that said to let your values reveal themselves to you because you don't actually CHOOSE your values they choose you - and through his exercise of defining meaningful moments in my life AND moments that made me feel frustrated angry and upset (suppressed values) I've narrowed it down to my top 5: winning, connection, performance, loyalty, and experience. I NEVER would have chosen those before doing the exercise. All that to say 1. Don't pick your values, see which ones have chosen you to be expressed. 2. What do I do now? How do I use the information that I value winning? 🤣🤣
