The band is Maximum The Hormone, one of my favorite metal bands. The song is titled "Shimi" and this is a new arrangement of one of their older songs, with this new version featuring the J-pop/hip-hop group Atarashii Gakko (the girls in the school uniforms). If you want to hear some more MTH I'd recommend their songs Yoshu Fukushu and What's Up People?

Hah, a true BLIND reaction! MTH is the band. AG is the 4 ladies in uniform fits. The woman in the kimono singing near the end is MTHs drummer Personally, collab of the year for me!🤘

Shimi is an old MTH song that has been reworked to include the singing and dancing of Atarashii Gakko. AG! are the 4 women in the school sailor uniforms. The groups have different musical styles, but both are iconoclasts making it a great collaboration. Also the melodic parts were originally sung by MTH's drummer, Nao, so having AG! sing them sounds right and Nao still gets to sing the final melodic part. The shamisen bit is a great intro to Rin's rap and AG!'s dance background makes for some epic headbanging. All the members of AG! sing and dance, but Suzuka's strong voice and stage personality means that she usually takes the lead with Rin rapping and Mizyu and Kanon doing the more melodic parts. I'll leave it up to MTH fans to talk more about them. Atarashii Gakko were formed in 2015 by Asobisystem. The members are Mizyu, Suzuka, Rin and Kanon. Their irreverent attitude and early jazz influenced songs didn't have much success in Japan and they were dropped by their record label in 2019. They were quickly signed by the US label 88Rising and produced an EP with Money Mark in CA and started to get some attention internationally. Then in 2023 they went viral on TikTok in Japan with their song Otona Blue and have capitalized on that success with collaborations like this, a new album called "AG! Calling" and a World Tour playing mostly mid sized venues of a few thousand capacity. AG! have stated that they are not idols and they avoid the banal sexuality that often comes with female idol groups...that's one of the reasons they wear the modest school uniforms with skirts below their knees. If you are interested in more AG! I recommend: "Atarashii Gakko, Otona Blue, The First Take" If you want something a little heavier their first ever single, Dokubana, is a good option, just search on "ATARASHII GAKKO! - 新しい学校のリーダーズ 「毒花」"

Band is Maximum the Hormone, the masters of genre bending. Check out their song "Yoshu Fukushu" and have your mind blown.

MTH stand against the status quo of Japanese culture and that is exactly why ATARASHII GAKKO was featured on this song. ATARASHII GAKKO are 100% true and honest with themselves not taking anything to serious just like MTH. They both represent a shift from the stereotypical way all Japanese people should act and present themselves and break the mold by being incredibly authentic. AG! didnt get pushed by some giant corporation to be the new big thing, instead taking there own path and pursuing there goals as a group. They were able to rise above with there own handwork and determination and that lead them to feature on the one of the biggest Japanese bands ever MTH!! I would love to see you react to more Atarashii Gakko in the future!

Yes! Apart from this video you can look at the original by MTH. But you can also look at Nemophila's cover of it. It is also brilliant. More Shimi!

Maximum the Hormone is the metal band. They are the god-fathers and god-mother of head snapping, genre bending Japanese metal. A big influence on the current crop of rock, pop and metal in Japan. Atarashii Gakko! (New School Leaders) is the alternative (anti-idol?) J-pop group. “Shimi” (“stain”) is the song. It’s an older MTH song that’s been rearranged for this collaboration.

You missed badly. Band- Maximum The Hormone (metal band} featuring the JPOP group Atarashi Gakko Song - Shimi. (An older Maximum The Hormone song) Still a great reaction though. Love both groups. Especially MTH. Maximum the Hormone is the Best Japanese metal band ever. And Japan has some absolutely amazing hard rock and metal bands. They really shine with their incredible all female groups. Might I suggest Hanabie - We love Sweets. They are an all female metal band that was heavily influenced by MTH. You will not be disappointed.

MTH are quite rightly living legends and perhaps the greatest inspiration of today's rock and metal generation from Japan. Like Nemophila, for example, who you already know, and who have a pretty good cover of 'Shimi' on their channel. 😉🤘🏻 _____________________ ⟬ _"America invented rock. England improved it. And now, Japan has perfected it."_ ⟭ Band-Maid | Gacharic Spin | Lovebites | Nemophila | East of Eden | Hanabie | Asterism | Trident | NEK! | BRIDEAR | Hades | etc.

Shimi is the song ;) The band is Maximum The Hormone (MTH) and this is their song. The women in the school style uniforms are the featured artist, Atarashii Gakko who are a very idiosyncratic J-pop group. This is a re-release of one of MTH's older songs re-arranged to feature Atarashii Gakko. MTH are a very influential older Japanese metal band. They have a female drummer who inspired Band Maid's drummer and Nemophila's drummer. Also Hanabie begun as a MTH cover band. The woman near the end singing on the floating platform behind Atarashii Gakko is the drummer :D For a MTH music video, this is quite calm and sane :D Japanese metal rabbit hole has all the SLAPS!!!!! XD

I saw Atarashii Gakko in Seattle with less than 2000 people. It was awesome. They are a crazy dance group with surprisingly good songs. Atarashii Gakko was the first guest on the Babymetal radio show. But unfortunately Suzuka wasn't there. I wanted to hear Suzuka of Atarashii Gakko with Suzuka of Babymetal. ;) Maximum the Hormone is a very famous Japanese metal band going back to the mid 2000s. They are kind of unknown outside Japan partly of their own doing. They never seemed to care about an international audience. The first time I heard Maximum the Hormone was in the anime Death Note. They did two different songs. What's Up People? and Zetsubo Billy.

MTH is the band, AG are the 4 girls (Pop group). MTH are legends in Japan and highly influential. They are chaotic, but do it seanlessly. Shimi is an older track from 2007. AG fit into this seamlessly. The visuals in this are movie quality.

I love Maximum the Hormone, they are definitely one of my favorite bands. For recommendations, I want to recommend some of the earlier stuff like "Zetsubou Billy" or "What's Up People?", but I think it is hard to find good quality versions of the music videos on youtube. So I will throw out "Yoshu Fukushu" as my rec, I know they have that one on their youtube channel. Another Japanese band that I love that I want to throw a recommendation out for is Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas. "Let Me Hear" is a good one to jump into their stuff with.

Cool reaction, dude! If you're curious about the featured artist, Atarashii Gakko, here are some tracks worthy of checking out: Tokyo Calling, Otonablue (First Take version), Seishun wo kirosakuhado, and their latest single Change. They also worked with Beastie Boys producer Money Mark and have a version of Intergalactic. 😊
Yes, Japan has an excellent roster of artists which span all possible musical genres. Be sure to check these artists out: pioneer punk bands Blue Hearts and Shonen Knife, pioneer heavy metal band Ningen Isu. For more recent acts, check out Otoboke Beaver, Baseball Bear, The Do Do Do's, Water Maze, and Zazen Boys.
