As a fan of Mark Brown from Game Maker's Toolkit, I am pleased to see his tool Platformer Toolkit getting some attention (per 7:57), even though I have no direct stake in its success :-)

I don't think I struggle understanding of this, I just get easily addicted to existing games and then "whoops, it's midnight already? What the heck, where did this day go?" ... SMH... I want to say I'm getting better at being disciplined with my time but it's really hard to be sure.

I definitely struggled with that, especially back in my dark era (playing league of legends), but I'll probably make a video with tips to make space for both gaming and gamedev in your life. The good thing is that you can now say you are "researching" when you play hahahahah

Hi, recently started learning code in python. Should I try the projects in python or is it better to start learning C# or C++ right of the start of my game dev journey?
@AidanNieve2 ай бұрын
Any language is just as good as the next one. I personally use Gdscript which is similar to python, but Godot also supports python, c++ and c#. You can try a bunch and you'll probably discover your own preferences. Personally I prefer more simple languages like python, but other people prefer having more control with C++/C# so... Don't worry too much about the language and focus on the concepts of programming instead

Although C# and C++ are widely used for game development due to multiple engines supporting them, I don't think there is a specific point at which you need to learn them. When you start needing a game engine, for instance, you can use PyGame. There are also options for integrating different languages, including multiple options that combine Python & C#, but I don't want to overwhelm you by listing specific options. The important thing is that you get moving and get learning. If you do decide still that you want to learn C#, I strongly recommend (if you're like me and have an affinity for learning from textbooks) "Beginning C# & .NET" by Benjamin Perkins

I want to use unreal engine, is it worth learning c++ or should i learn the blueprint system first?
@AidanNieve2 ай бұрын
I have limited experience with Unreal, I tried the blueprint system and I honestly prefer coding, but to be fair I'm a software engineer so I'm biased. You should be able to create almost anything with blueprints, especially as you are just getting started and creating smaller games, but you will probably save time in the long run if you learn at least the basics of C++, and for bigger projects I'd discard blueprints altogether

@@AidanNieve Thanks for the detailed response, ill try learn c++ it just seems alot more intimidating than python haha
@feivmoon2 ай бұрын
You should learn algorithms and data structures, those bases will make you comfortable using any language
@AidanNieve2 ай бұрын
It's definitely more intimidating, but all programming languages are pretty much the same, here in Spain they teach us Java, and when I started I was really afraid I wouldn't understand anything, but now I see it's basically the same with a slightly different syntax :)

What is better to make android game or pc one
@AidanNieve2 ай бұрын
Honestly, it depends. If you want to make money you'll probably have more chances with a PC game, but you will also need a better game and longer development time. Meanwhile you can create and publish mobile games really fast... But I'd still stick to PC, I published an app on the Play Store once and they are a pain in the ass, always asking for updates to the terms and conditions, and to get any downloads you need to pay for ads
