I'm a somewhat frugal old man & alone not wanting much in size - easier to cool and clean. These are quite nice but a bit more than a studio - where 1 AC is enough. Efficiency and comfort is to my liking - with perhaps a cleaning once a week ? Nearby food choices would be desired and access to night street food a nice advantage ! I saw some studios for $120 -- $130 range that were also nice. Each to his own but I would be using my AC a lot - so the smaller size really helps with the elect and cleaning bills. (?) Having generator back up power for the black outs wasn't mentioned - or I didn't hear it ?!? Do remember the offer of lower price for 6 month lease ! - - - Thanks for the show --- I really enjoy these - especially the small ones. Good luck with your stay in SR (!) -- it's a beautiful little city and wonderful retirement destination in my view !!!

I think most had a back up generator but really not 100% sure. I have not used the air conditioner at all I bought a fan and that has been ok for me so far. All apartments are so close to town that there is no worries about getting food, as street sellers and restaurants are always close by.

I’m not sure on back up generator situation. But I’ve been in my apartment for just over a month and I haven’t lost power once and we’ve had some massive thunderstorms. It’s really quiet apart from the odd dog barking.

Yes no. 2 was nice it was quite a large apartment. I really loved Thailand but the visas are more difficult to navigate. Also, the Cambodian people are just the most friendly and welcoming.

@@nanwithabackpack Visas were a PIA in Thailand. SR reminds me of what Chiang Mai (where I lived for a year) might have looked like 25 years ago (without the mountains). And no burning season.

Hi Sonja - Your videos are the best and most informative. Now I have a challenging question - Is it possible to find a small apartment in central Siem Reap with swimming pool access? I am 76 going on 77 and damn unfit, I refuse gym work and the only excercise I like is swimming. I saw your man at IPS and will see him again but I'm not sure if he thought I was slightly mad🤣LY residential looks good, recommended by a Canadian KZbinr but I'm not sure if it's a bit too far out? Maps don't seem to have any scale of distances on them, so I don't know whether I'm on Jupiter or Apollo🤔Thank you, any advice would be most welcome.

Fascinating. To open a bank account what do you need? 1. A permanent address? 2. Your arrive on a 30 day visa ( can you do 30 day visa when u arrive and pay $30 fee? 3 . To extend residential visa to 1 year….. $195 4 . It takes a little while to arrive number of days? Sorry so many questions…. Just trying to understand. :-)

I have a 1 BR near Wat Damnak for $250/month. I also prefer small rooms with ceiling fans, keeps the electricity costs down. And HATE the TV in the bedroom. I'm a writer and like to enjoy Roku at night sitting on a sofa, with an adult bevvie within arm's reach. As you know, Khmer furniture is really heavy! Stubbed toes hurt! Cheers!

Hahaha no Greggs they do have a McDonald’s and KFC but those are the only two big chains that I have seen although never tried them. The local food is way too delicious. 🤗

That depends all the 1 bed apartments I looked at were $200 per month. In most cases they charge between $5-$10 per month for water and electricity is $0.25 per kilowatt hour. Rent can range from around $150 per month upwards depending on your budget. Food and drink again it depends from person to person. Do you eat out? Do you cook at home? Do you drink alcohol? Siem Reap really took me by surprise. I had no expectations when I arrived. And in fact when I first arrived, my first opinion, wasn’t that great as I arrived and the Hostel I booked had closed down so ended up having nowhere to stay! But honestly, Siem Reap and the people who live here have captured my heart. I’ve heard the same from a few people. But when you step away from Pub Street and meet the locals it’s wonderful 😍

Personally I would always take one WITHOUT a direct lease contract for 6 months first! If you are looking on yourself, and contacting direct the landlord, you will find such appartments. Because its only staying in for a while that you realize the disadvantages. Could be a loud neighbor, or too much dogs around and, and, and...

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see sunset as the weather was awful on that day. Hopefully, I will get to go back and will be treated to a magnificent sunset.
