I created this video in honor of my mother to share with my friends on Facebook years ago. The beautiful lyrics and strong message spoke to me after her passing. The fact that this one little video has been viewed over 96,000 times just goes to show you what a wonderful song this is! Thank you Sweet Honey in the Rock for your strength and boundless talent!! I am grateful for your gift!

I have known this song for many years.......Thank-you- Sean Kessler ! It reminds me of my "Grampy" who loved me so, as a child- when no one else did. and he is always with me still. He died in 1970... He even brought me to buy "Boys Black high top sneakers" when I was 7 years old my big wish. I'm 56 yrs old now, and all grown up now ! But I loved my Grampy more than anyone else in the world........he had no "mirrors in his house".

Well , I was introduced to the group way back when my martial arts instructor married one of the ladies in the group. I have come to appreciate them tremendously and they are a living part of me. Wanting Memories is a beautiful and meaningful song ....but if it is the only song that youve heard from Sweet Honey , you are cheating yourself in the cruelest kind of way. Get to know some of their songs- make them an intricate part of your soul.. They are no less than delicate pearls of some deep deep messages of the soul.

Many years ago I heard Sweet Honey in the Rock at the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. I sat on the grass in front of the open-air concert stage and listened to this song for the first time. I decided then and there, It will be one of the songs played at my funeral, when that comes.....hopefully not for a long time. That's how much this song and especially this performance mean to me.

I was just laying in bed, ready to fall asleep, when I remembered that my college choir sang a song a couple of years ago that I liked. I couldn't remember anything about it except that it was from Africa and the lady in the background singing the "dm dm"s. I really wanted to remember what it was so I could listen to it. I have the memory of a goldfish, but somehow I fished out a single line from the song and googled it. Now here I am, relieved and ready to sleep peacefully. This song is beautiful, and was definitely worth stressing over to try and remember it.

I first listened to this song soon after my father died, and it had a tremendous impact on me. I especially remember the line '... and now you are gone...', but also the hopeful conclusion at the end '...but you are with me...'. I loved listening to it, because it lifted me up. As the years have passed, I keep coming back to it -- to experience my acute sense of loss at that time, and also the wonderful feeling by the end of it. Thank you for this song !!
