One of the greatest things among the many many great things about this film is that it isn’t dumbed down and doesn’t talk down to its audience, as so many films do nowadays. The director correctly assumed that the audience he was creating this for wasn’t a room full of drooling idiots and used the “show don’t tell” method of directing to perfection. It’s not over saturated with a non stop mass of messy clunky choppy sloppy pathetic inappropriate grade school level dialogue. He’s intelligent enough to allow the picture to breathe, let the characters just be and let his work speak to us in subtle ways, humanly, body language, eye contact, vocal tone, music, lighting etc. it gives you time to take it all in, letting you think…& feel… without the contemporary practice of smashing your face into the screen nonstop with really poorly written dialogue, especially expository dialogue. So in other words, this movie is not made for our TikTok generation, which doesn’t seem to know the difference between a man and a woman, how many months are in a year, or in the case of famous comedian and talk show host Chelsea Handler, a person who believes she’s so smart, important and correct that she will tell you her political opinions, in an attempt to influence your vote, yet somehow doesn’t know that the sun and the moon are two different celestial objects!?! WTF? She has mentioned this many times, so to paraphrase her… “until I was in my thirties, I didn’t know that the sun and the moon were different objects in the sky. I just thought when the sun went down it came back up as the moon” (it’s on KZbin if you doubt what I’m saying). I kind of went off the script a bit there lol! I guess what I am saying is that I really love this film! It’s so unique, so refreshing, it’s somber and dark yet bright and joyful! It makes you despair for humanity and still shows us the best of humanity! How many films can make you really think, feel, hate, love, cry and then clap for joy!? That, in my humble opinion is the sign of an amazing work of art… of cinema. 🤓😱😭😊😢😂😮😅💀👏👏👏👏👏👏 Bravo! Bravo! ❤ Encore! Encore! 🎉

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy made into this film is a great pleasure to everyone 😀an epic of all time
@kangakid59842 жыл бұрын
I read the book and savoured the pages over two and a half months. I have watched a few different films of War and Peace. This is my favourite. Each film made has to choose to focus on some aspects of the story while leaving out others. It is why I watched several productions. Some take great liberties in the story telling but I really like the characters portrayed here. It is good to read the book to clarify aspects though I like some of Tolstoy's insights and concepts. His work is what he created written in the way he wanted to express the story of his work. Each adaptation also gives the insight of the director and producers. No one can reproduce the million reasons why people lived and participated as they did in the events of the story. A range of insights given by many artists are all worthy of respect for their work in producing film to the written work. People are complex, insightful and can act in contradictory ways to their principles as individuals. When together in groups ( Tolstoys hives) factors impact them from the most ancient parts of their being. Violence, war and unthinkable actions are determined beyond normal human choice. Intelligent people dont ignore history and are bond to repeat historical mistakes. It is coded in parts of their being in ways that can not be understood. His insights are so relevant to todays world. Just look around. Tolstoy said that people have the view to always look back and think that they had a choice, as was part of a human need to morally justify the actions of war. Always after the unthinkable has occured.

Amazing work they did reviving this film! Beautiful! Great movie! Epic in every sense!❤ You couldn’t even make this film in Hollywood, it would be too expensive.

How relevant it sounds now: "The war has begun. An event contrary to human reason and all human nature has taken place."

Banderchuk filmed the great novel keeping its minute details in his mind. That’s why the film becomes a masterpiece. Never mind Tolstoy and Bandarchuk were almost equally talented in their respective fields.

Once again subtitles are superior to dubbing , a few years ago the BBC did a production of War and Peace and the actor playing Pierre looked like a sixteen year old but the actor playing Pierre in this film is perfect casting . The music is brilliant especially the ballroom scene

@@buckhurst9122 Look deeper! Although Pierre was 20 years old but in his soul and his mind he was mature, wise like an old man. That is why in Soviet version Pierre looks reflect his inner state.

Yes, exactly. Even Russians themselves say "Why a cast in the film was so old?". I'm Russian, and I adored this cast... It just feels right. Even in the book itself characters don't act like 20 year old infantile dumbs. They act wisely and thoughtfully, their inner age feels older. So yeah... I can't even take young Pierre's casts seriously tbh. Bondarchuck made me fall in love with him :)

"Notice how Natasha leaves at 27:23 and slightly jerks her head towards Andrey. She seems to want to look at him but hesitates, not wanting to seem intrusive since she already glanced at him for quite a while after being asked to leave. The film is full of subtle nuances like this. This is what I call art."
