My Uncle Rick was a veteran of Vietnam. Worked with German Shepherds in his unit. It would always bring tears to his eyes when he talked about his canine companion in the military.

This is beautiful. I'll be adding this to my website. I enjoyed watching the full-length War Dogs video (videoTAPE!) as well.

Thank you for putting this out there to remind us their duty for keeping human man kind safe and as it may be also giving up their life to spare another as well as their companions to the military and law enforcement.

War has changed greatly in the 150 years since the American Civil War, but the devotion between US soldiers and the dogs who accompany them to war has not. There is nothing else quite like the bond between soldiers and their dogs. They bond for life.

Michael. Horrible. So sad. That so stunk and added more in your gut and in your backstabbed pain onto a effen rotten war. Just retired from an urban PD. Wasn't enough of an ass kisser, so never got to be a K9 handler. Plus, I've been doing Schutzhund as a hobby since the 80s, along with K9 when my dogs got bored, so probably was too experienced and had my own ideas and opinions about training and handling. Have met veterans from WWII onwards thru my therapy Dobermans and volunteer work. You'll meet your soul partner later in a better world.

Agent Fungus Thanks brother & I hope your right , in fact I'm counting on it , its been 46 years since I left my best friend in the hands of the ARVN handler who assassinated him 2 weeks after I pulled out , my 1st 13 month tour was my job , my 2nd 13 month tour was my bond with much more than a Military Working Dog , Deuce was family to 8 Marines & I still miss him , for decades I would dream that I had him laying at my side while catching a few minutes sleep in our harbor site , I could feel his weight pushing against me , feeling his fur against my chest while I slept would make me so happy & then the dream would end the same way every time, Deuce would alert to VC & I would awake to an empty sweaty bed , we didn't know about PTSD back then & I was suicidal over the loss for years , the corps didn't offer a program allowing handlers to bring our wd's home with us , its only within the last few years & nearly a decade of therapy have the dreams went away , I've been able to let go of most of the guilt but none of the memories , in our time working together Deuce never lost a single Marine to ambush or any of the 2step charlie surprises he alerted on before we walked through one , he could smell & sense VC at distances well beyond 100 yards while on point ,even when he wasn't working while we were in our harbor sites he would know if anybody came within a click of the site & gently gnaw my arm to wake me , had it not been for that animal myself & 7 other Marines would of been cut down in Cambodia & for his valor the corps gave him a death sentence instead of a dust off at my side where he belonged , the only consolation was in knowing our 1st sergeant avenged Deuces execution for me by shanking the arvn handler who murdered my friend & leaving him to die alone in Laos , he never could explain how Deuce got out of the kennel at night while none of the other 3 dogs did, nor could he explain how the dog got outside the wire & was found with his throat cut , 1st chance the squad had he paid with his life for the life he took , I still regret not being able to avenge Deuces murder with my own hands but I'm consoled knowing I had a friend who who did avenge my loss using the same knife my friend lost his life with . Sorry to be a rambling old man with sad stories but I've had a few drinks this evening & its not often I speak of these things , it hurts less to just keep it all buried inside until I meet up with him again at the end of all things , take care .
