Hey Strategy Gaming Dojo, thanks for the mention, it's great to know that sharing a little knowledge is appreciated! A few more nuggets of knowledge and (hopefully) wisdom: - What makes the Raranga even better is its high cruise speed of 17 (5,1 Hexes per ), really nice for a troop transport, especially in combination with the range/endurance of 15400 nautical miles. - There are only a few bases similar to Port Hedland/Corunna Downs and its resource situation and almost all of them aren't on the same scale of resource production, apart from maybe Tasmania (110 Resource Centers producing for 60 Light Industry centers): - Noumea has 30 Resource Centers and 10 Light Industry Centers, so any resource surplus could be sent to Australia. - New Zealand also gets a small surplus that could be shipped over, but it needs fuel for its Heavy Industry, which means fuel stored for example in Auckland does run out somewhat quickly. - Suva (Fiji) has 5 Resource Centers which would fill a ship per month. - Nauru Island and Ocean Island (North of the New Hebrides) have combined Resource Centers of 122, but only ports of size 2 and they will be attacked by the Japanese soon, so maybe get out what you can? - Boela and Babo (North-North-East of Darwin) have 20 Resource Centres and 45 Oil Centers, but also small ports (sizes 2 and 1) that soon come into range of japanese aircraft. - Colombo on Ceylon has a surplus from 60 Resource Centers producing for only 40 Light Industry Centers, those could be shipped to India. - There are also Anchorage and Juneau with a combined 30 Resource Centers in Alaska, but I don't think I'll bother with those^^ - About altitude of Naval Search: The consideration here is the balance between finding the small TFs better at lower altitude (~ 5.000 ft, lower risk from AA due to low number of ships) vs. finding big TFs at higher altitude (~9.000 ft, which mitigates some of the higher risk from AA)

I wonder about Heavy Industry in New Zealand. Consumes fuel, produces supply, but has no use for the Heavy Industry points produced. I recommend: turn off Hvy Ind. in NZ, ship in supplies, not fuel.
@BayardHamar
@BayardHamar 4 жыл бұрын
@@dans.5745 I would counter: Turn off HI in New Zealand, ship in supplies and still ship in fuel, since Auckland makes a pretty nice refueling and rearmament point: - A bit out of the way - Port 5(6) can easily be expanded to size 7 for rearmament of *all* Allied Naval Weapons - Has a Repair Shipyard size 15, so ships up to about a CA/CVE/some CVL would fit. - Waipapakauri to the North of Auckland can be a very nice airfield for Naval Search squadrons and a few strike squadrons (just in case), which most likely would be able to strike before the squadrons in Auckland due to the general approach the Japanese would probably take (North to North-East-ish) - Due to its location and the many bases with Naval Search squadrons between NZ and the Japanese (Australia, Lord Howe - and Norfolk Island, Noumea, Fiji, even Raoul Island if you want) you have a good "warning net". Also, if fuel is no concern, HI is more Resource-efficient than LI at producing Supply Points. Granted, as the Allies this is a minor point, but still 😀

Gold Coast Airport is near Brisbane, which is where the Gold Cost is. :) It's not down at Melbourne as far as I know. I do agree that Australia is cool and so are Aussies!

These videos are awesome. It would take my puny brain forever to figure out this game. As it is I’m finally catching on to this amazing system.

I had a really bad day yesterday. I spent all afternoon finishing off Australia, and had not saved anything at all, then I accidentally clicked on Quit Game when I was trying to minimize the screen. Lost everything. About 5 hours of work, and then had to redo the whole thing again. Learnt a very important thing from this. SAVE, and SAVE OFTEN !!! but I have now completed everything from krull's list for Australia, having said that, I'm glad I went through everything in this video, because I had forgotten to do a lot of things, and made several mistakes, but I'm hoping everything is good now.

Sorry to hear that, Shaun. We've all been there and it is definitely a rite of passage for this game :) Generally, I have a save file named Australia and then will save after every major location. I then have a new save file when I move to Borneo and so forth. I hope you learned more doing it twice (silver lining)

@@strategygamingdojo5278 Yes, I did learn more from doing it twice, and actually did it a hell of a lot faster, so I guess it's not all that bad.

First, watched all the basic intro's - excellent as a start. now it looks setting up is all around the spreadsheet... Is there not a "first turn Saved set-up" that just finished all that ? and one starts form that.

Unfortunately, no. Until you create your own. It's a beast for sure, but you can really learn the game that way. I guess a Save file should be able to be exported over to you, but I've never seen one

Assuming Engineers have a finite capacity to upgrade, could the reason that he didn't expand the port on turn 1 be that he wanted fortifications and airport to expand as fast as possible. Then later expand the port.

The Gold Coast is roughly 75km south of Brisbane or about 1 hex 😉

No sweat. I've only visited extremely briefly myself (live down in Melbourne) however it is indeed quite a gorgeous place, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself should you manage to make that transatlantic flight (sorry, couldn't resist!)

@@strategygamingdojo5278 Think of the Gold Coast as Oz's Las Vegas, bit of a tourist trap. Many of the kids in my unit went there on R&R from Iraq. I just wanted to relax, so I went to Mooloolaba, on the Sunshine Coast, same distance to the north. Laid back, sheltered bay and beach, not far to the Australia Zoo, very friendly folks.

In regards to Sydney. Kull seems to have the 9th Sqn RAAF Seagulls based here and training for ASW. in my move they seem to be split on the CA Canberra and CL Perth in TF431. Any why the difference? These ships are due to change to Bowen I think so presumably the planes follow

These are great and interesting. I am considering the game, but not sure about the time commitment. How many hours does it take to do a turn? If it takes me a week to do a turn I will never finish a game.

Hey Strategy Gaming Dojo, should I be sending US Base Forces and Engineers to help Australia build up bases, or should I focus the Americans on island building and defense?

Use those US Base Forces and Engineers on the Pacific islands. You should have sufficient numbers in Australia w/o help from the US
