Even years later I watched your War of the ring series. It was quite well done. Learned so much from it and expecting the other playthrough for other expansion as well :)

I like this game, I own it but rarely get it to the table as it takes too long to set up and play which is the reason I’ve never got around to buying this expansion. I’d still like to pick it up one day though. Would also love to paint the figures as well but they’re way down on my list of painting projects.

@Babes & Board Games I've just gotten the Lords of Middle Earth expansion. Kings of Middle Earth is still not released yet; I don't see it listed for first Qtr of 2021; so it looks like Spring/Summer 2021 at the earliest. R.R.

Awesome videos man! Question: Even though there was a solid black line between Helms Deep and Erech, that counts as an "adjacent region" for bringing the dead army in? And thus Aragorn and companions can cross that black line to join the army in this case? Thanks
@BoxofDelights3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question: no, unfortunately: a thick black line between two regions means those two regions are not considered adjacent for any purpose.

@@BoxofDelights So actually at 17:53, you couldn’t have mustered in the Dead Men after all! :(
@lenoras8136Ай бұрын
Page 12 of the expansion rule book states: "Dead Men may enter play when Strider (or Aragorn) is in, or within one region from, Erech, including regions across the mountains--Helm's Deep, Westemnet, Edoras. When the Dead Men faction enters play, immediately move Strider/Aragorn (and any number of Companions in the same region, even if they are in a Stronghold under siege) to Erech, to join the Army of the Dead." This is an exception to the normal rules of not being able to cross mountains or leave a Stronghold under siege. This follows the story line of Aragorn moving through the mountains to find the Dead Men.

Can a "captured" Free Peoples City/Stronghold be "retaken by the Free Peoples and reduce the Shadow military chip back down the track?
@BoxofDelights4 жыл бұрын
if a captured settlement is recaptured, the settlement control marker is removed and any Victory points earned from conquering the site are lost.

Hi there Ricky. Firstly, thanks for your great videos! I have a question about the lords of middle earth expansion, if you could help: the manual says, somewhat ambiguously, that the use of the special elven ring abilities is in addition to the "base" use of the ring to change a die result. My question is: does this mean that the Free Peoples player can use all his special rings in a single turn (provided that their bearers are in play)? Or is there also a restriction of one ring per turn? If there is such a restriction, I'd assume that, in a single turn, one can use one ring special ability and additionally, can - in the same turn- use another ring to change a die result? I hope i got my message across, as I find this a bit confusing. Thanks again!

I still have to paint my figures for the Warriors of Middle Earth expansion, though. I have it since the release but never played it so far. Do you recommend to play it together with the first expansion or does that create too many special rules... I liked the first expansion very much, but having to choose already at the beginning which version you want to use for your fellowship characters makes the game not easier, especially for beginners. I normally just used the new fellowship cards so that the setup time is shorter. But I think there was this rule, that you do not reveal to the shadow player which fellowship character card version you choose, so maybe this creates some nice strategies. Don't know. So what I wanted to say is, that I really liked the first expansion, but it already felt like a bit too much. I am a fan of clean and simple rules, that can get complex from time to time by creating some interesting situations, but I am not the biggest fan of many special case rules. It's nice when the basic rules already cover the special cases. But the new ring abilities were nice and also Elrond, Galadriel and the Balrog was really cool to have. Missed the Ents, though. Thanks for showing this expansion.
@BoxofDelights4 жыл бұрын
Wow, painting them all sounds like a mammoth task. Good luck !! I had the first expansion, but never played it and sold it a while back. This second expansion seems to add so much more with very simple rules, and I will be using it every time now (okay, perhaps not with new players). I loved the characters from that first expansion being there, but I agree that the rules overhead cost a little too much. Maybe if/when a reprint comes and I am ever so much more familiar with the rules I will consider it again... Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! R.R.

@@BoxofDelights however, I just did a very simple 3 shades of one faction color paint job, just so that you can better differentiate between the different factions of one player (like for mixed armies crossing into not-at-war territory of another faction of the same side). Added some highlights here and there and also replaced the Nazgûl with nice metal miniatures (were quite expansive though). So it didn't take too long to do the whole job. I would say around 50 hours. It was quite relaxing, watched inter alia one of your Mage Knight playthroughs while doing it ^^. Here an image of the paint job: imgur.com/293uCys I had no experience in coloring miniatures before and used three layers of dry painting (3 different shades of the same color from dark to lighter colors) to do it. At first, you have to wash the miniatures with soap because they are a bit oily and then spray them black before painting them. I am happy with most of them except the Eastlings... Another tip: Let the leaders be grey (also with three shades of dry painting of course, otherwise it looks stupid) and just color the flags, otherwise, you will mix them up with your armies. So I still have to color the figures of the expansions (both of them) and also the fellowship characters. I want to paint all special characters (fellowship and Balrog etc) in full with like 10 colors each. Didn't had the time to do it, though. But I painted the Nazgûl actually in like 50 shades of black ^^. But you can't see it on photos.

Hello Ricky, wonderful content, much thumbs up for your work! I recently bought War of the Ring FIRST EDITION, but I watched all of your War of the Ring videos and there were very very helpful. One quick question! I also bought the first ediotion's expansion "Battles of Middle Earth". Do you know if it connects with the War of the Ring (first edition), in the way Warriors of Middle Earth connects with War of the Ring second edition? I'm very confused because there is a new (double, front and back) board in Battles of Middle Earth and actually looks like a similar but different game. Thanks in advance for your answer! Keep the good work!
