War of the Spanish Succession - Road to Blenheim 1703 (Episode 3)

I've been wanting to start a series on this conflict for a long time. This war brought about a new balance of power in Europe, and it shook throughout the world. Buckle up and relax as we begin a dive into the battles, odd politics, and personalities of War of the Spanish Succession like never before on KZbin.
Today we cover the events in Europe leading up to just before the Battle of Blenheim and Villars' dismissal after the 1st Battle of Hochstadt.

Minor Errors: I've been using After Effects for a lot of animation in these videos now. This video is sort of a trial and error run with it. The map for Hochstadt is too small, and so are some of the unit cards. Keep that in mind. Otherwise, I look forward to making a much cleaner video for Blenheim!

In 1703 the battle of Ekeren took place in the Spanish Netherlands. 10.000 Dutch soldiers were surprised and surrounded by 40.000 French soldiers but managed to beat them back and escape. It however caused a major contronversy in Dutch command. Because of him fleeing from the battle, General Obdam was dismissed and Overkirk was given the highest Dutch military position. That would work out well since he was able too work really well with Malborough and played a crucial role in the major battles in the Spanish Netherlands

The French forces didn't fight through the imperial line like shown in the video, but they did fight a tavtical withdrawal at close range until the Bavarians and Villars arrived.

Did the Swedes not live off the land though? I'm not quite sure on the kind of logistics Charles XII relied on, given his campaign in Russia. Charles was always fighting Polish peasants in his early campaigns.

Marlborough is pronounced as Maulbr not Marl-bo-ro, it is a small English Market Town in Wiltshire and gave its name to John Churchill (ancestor of Winston!)
