One trick I learned about CAP's was that when Zeros are inbound and the fighters are up, disengage dogfight at will, send them in the opposite direction and when they are roughly as far away as the incoming zeros to your task force, you re-engage dogfight at will and when the two forces clash, it is right over you ships. The combination of fighters and AA tears these otherwise supreme Zeros to shreds. On several occasions, I lost only one or two against 15-20 and it happened so fast, several times the following wave of incoming bombers were torn apart as well. I love your videos. Because of you I picked up this game and its mods. I love it, so thank you for all the "Yes! Got 'em!", "Bugger!" and "That is unfortunate" moments it has given me.

Less micromanagement to simply disable auto-engage and park CAP ~200 ft above surface force. Have em spin in circles at speed and let ship AA do all the work. Split a pair off to rope-a-dope the enemy fighters if needed. That way you can keep as many fighters available to intercept enemy bombers as possible. Roast enemy carrier air groups tis way and you can completely ignore enemy carrier TFs. As long as the ships aren't badly damaged the AI won't withdraw them to rearm/release. I don't feel bad meta-gaming in this way bc the dogfighting AI is wicked bad lmao

Yep. People who cheesed the game a lot complained it was too easy and the devs decided to listen to them. So now you need to cheese like crazy to have a chance and anybody trying to play without such tricks is getting stomped by overtuned enemy AI.

@@GaldirEonai Personally this, Like I hate how Enemy planes ALWAYS spawn right over your taskforces if they're close enough to load in, so if you try to intercept an enemy flight before it reaches your ships you better make sure your far enough away so that your ships don't load in otherwise your planes will be like 5-10km away from your ships but the enemy would have teleported behind you over your fleet. Couple this with the fact every type of plane the AI uses to strike ships with (Zeros with 60kg bombs should not be as effective as they currently are) and that the AI seems to have almost no cooldown for aircraft and never seems to run out of aircraft and I'm not surprised people cheesed the shit out of this game.

Every ship costs peanuts in command points. And this seems like a mod where the Japanese have been granted much more resources than Allies. Wolfpack has prevailed though because AI seems substantially stupider than any experienced, talented human player.

I remember reading a report where a Fulmar pilot complained that he was unable to chase down an unladen D3A Val. Hurricanes were inferior to Zeros. Fulmars would have been hopelessly outclassed. The reason that RN aircraft carriers had armoured decks is doctrine. The British assumed from the very beginning that their carriers would take hits.

That was largely because they expected their carriers to be operating in the North Atlantic, North Sea and Mediterranean areas, where land-based planes would be continuously attacking. Getting caught in the open ocean by waves of dive and torpedo bombers, and vastly superior fighters wasn't considered. So armored decks and smaller airgroups were typical. Indomitable actually had cut down armor and a larger air-group, although still only about 1/2 to 2/3rds of a comparable US carrier.

British armored flight decks did pay off in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theatres where they withstood many bomb hits that would've sunk other carriers twice over. But out here in the Pacific where air superiority is vital, the smaller air wings are problematic.

even in rl i would bet all my money on the zero in an dogfight. they are perfect for that job. at the begin of the fight the hurricanes have the upper hand but as soon as the zero gets behind the hurricane its game over

Engagement really showed how far ahead the Zero was early in the war against anything the allies had in air. I was surprised as well on the performance of the sea hurricanes. I would have thought they would have done better but i am unaware of their stats compared to the land based counterparts. Really shows how limited the allies were far as what they could do with the types & ships they had in area of Indian ocean. American carriers could carry more planes & better capabilities than their british counterparts but being unarmoured & their aircraft just as helpless in performance against the zero early on in the war. Whole different story once we surpassed the technology in aircraft over the zero & turned tide in planes & radar technology. Thanks for another great episode of War on the Sea Wolfpack345 !!!!

Might be worth it to have a fast battle group to screen for the carrier task force. They can sail ahead of Indomitable and tell you if you want to scramble Hurricanes if its enemy bombers or recall them if its enemy fighters. I'd pick HMS Renown and probably three of the Leander-class light cruisers.

In my opinion there should be ace pilots in this game that would be more capable in fights or some sort of exp mechanic so the more they live the more capable in fights they will be. Same with ships crew, like gunners and spotters, the more they shoot the better accuracy they have. It would make planes less disposable and make players to save them more often. It's game after all, not everything must be historically accurate, right?

This channel is great because Wolfpack does everything possible to ignore the game's flaws and retain his immersed attitude. 38 minute video with a lot of questionable bad luck and he mentions AI flaws exactly once. He should receive a medal from the developers. Please keep it up, Wolfpack. This game has issues, but watching you play while keeping your cool is far better than a gamer just raging and complaining. We in the comment section can handle that part - no problem. :) Keep it up!

Hecc yeah right at bed time!!! Edit: 23:00 You should never leave your Convoy unprotected and go hunt Bombers with that less Planes. I understand, at 34:00 you had less bombers, but also less Fighters and had to sacrifice a Freighter at 26:45 26:00 why did you turn completely sideways to the enemy Bombers instead of heading towards them? Imo you would have had way higher chances to get that Freighter out alive. I dont play the game yet, so I may be completely wrong. Thats just what I would do, sorry if it crosses as arrogant or aggressive.

Yea, couple of bugs in this game like dogfight at will isn't on for certain aircraft conditions so they just sit there. Once you get it turned on thou you don't want to mess with the Ai, just let it do its thing otherwise things start to fall apart. Just as bad as when you have a sub and if you fire a second salvo(or more) torpedos, they will go true north instead of the target every time. That one really chaps my hide, man fire 6x, 2 degree spread it is then.

Well Its Very Difficult though, because AI Had more Precise and Accurate Accuracy more than normal or vanilla WOTS. I Swear, if you had 6 Kates on this mod and compare to Vanilla 6 Kates attacking single Cargo Ship, 6 Kates from this mod will have success 2-4 torpedo hits or even all hits, meanwhile in Vanilla, only like 1-3 Torpedo Hits. (In this situation are if The Ship is not Manuever yet.) So sometimes When there is Enemy Torpedo Bomber, Makesure you turn your ship up to torpedo distance, if its far just turn Away or turn close but make sure its route are not in torpedo tracks route, if the torpedo were close and carried by Aircraft, you could just turn to show off your bow ship (Unvital and Most Protective Ship Compartment) for taking hit, but if you can dogde it, its more great and also extra tips, make sure yout ship position is always Horizontaly from enemy that coming in Vertical Route. Why? Because in Horizontal Position the Ship Aa gun will had more change to burst and Shot down enemy Aircraft, i had already tested this and this tips are work

I may be speaking out of turn here; but, you can just rearm the convoy at port and the aircraft will replenish. It worked for me on this mod; saved the release/repair downtime.

Fighter AI can be so frustrating. As a tip, I would advise you to always disable auto-attack for them, as they react to the enemy's movements by slowing down even though they are still far away - that's what the Sea Hurricanes did and that's why it took them so long reach the engagement area.

Wow man that's been my favorite episode yet in all the War on the sea campaigns. And really I can say that about this whole campaign so far. If I had any questions I would wonder how your entire air wing besides the torpedo bombers got decimated so easily by slow and lightly gunned and highly combustible bombers!! Fulmars against zeros? Yeah ok I'm seeing that, but I'm shocked the hurricanes were dominated in that fashion. But... Wolfpack you always have said you like it as hard as possible. Well my dude, you got it this time! 👍✌️😎

I feel like, why has nobody yet said anything about the fact that you turn the bow and stern towards torpedoes to avoid them? Not broadside? 27:06 😢 Getting a torpedo hit on the bow most likely kills and damages four of the front compartments, not as much as critically down amidships. The Clan freighter could’ve only been hit by two if it’d gone bow in. I had my Cornwall get hit by ten torpedoes in the bow and survived, with only the twelfth unluckily 180 deg on my stern which killed my props and left it to Vals.

When your TF has an air raid - best to immediately smoke up, speed up, and turn your transports bow toward the airplanes. Easier to dodge torps. Your retreat from the invasion area - You went South and then clearing the islands you went due West /// why not continue due South to increase your distance from the airfield?

I’d definitely say I’d add another carrier to the mix with the main carrier group, adding more planes in general would improve the overall length of sustained operations. Also I dunno if it’s at all possible to have aircraft swapped out for others, if I had the option to do so I’d swap my hurricanes for the sea fires, since they’re practically the closest in terms of performance to a zero before the f4U and f8f became a thing

it seems you have need of a second Fleet Carrier to get enough CAP up to swat enemy planes. O-19 needs a friend so they can patrol the channel and ID any task forces approaching. now that you've landed they WILL respond in force. expect a BB and at least 1 Carrier to come knocking.

That might be my biggest complaint with this game at the moment. Plane controls and their AI. Planes moving completely submarines plus an AI with the shits for brains, it can get furstrating.

Love your videos, but not sure why you turned your merchant broadside to the attacking torp planes, probably would have been better to turn into them so as to take maybe 1 or 2 torps as opposed to the 6 or 8 you took instead. Just a thought for your next run up :)

Just a note on the Betty's shooting down the Hurricanes remember the Betty had a 20mm cannon in the tail position... Also the Hurri's against the Zero isn't an equal fight as the Zero should win...

well Betty have rifle caliber MGs and a 20mm firing from the rear so If you get shout down when your behind it its the most likely ,-)

As the Zero's can't really damage the fleet - Use your poor performance "fighters" (to run like hell) and pull the Z's toward the real "fighter" group for better advantage. I find in the PAC mod that if a TF with a Cap is attacked - it's better to "engage" the Cap instead of engaging the TF - it seems that begins with the Cap closer to the TF.

@@southernbear736 After 3-4 engagements - but fighters will engage other fighters BEFORE they drop bombs - unless you tell them otherwise. This specific fight, this specific place, and this specefic time.

One thing to note: both Flak and AAA will kill your own planes. It's something I've been burned with more than once. It's cheesy, but a gamey way to deal with inbound bombers when a sub is nearby is to enter combat with the sub. The bombers will go after it. Dive the boat and allow the enemy bombers to drop their bombs then disengage. The AI bombers will rtb.
