War on the Sea is a 2021 World War II real time strategy game in which the player controls either the United States Navy or the Imperial Japanese Navy during the course of the Pacific War. I looked it up, it was a Hokku Maru freighter, and in this game it apparently has a bit of anti-aircraft ability. Those gunners were good shots.

The b-25 Mitchell is known for its devastating strafing runs 12 forward facing machine guns 8 in the nose two on each side in between the engine and the cockpit glass and a forward facing 75 mm yes 75 mm Cannon devastating

I meant B-25C1 with 75mm

The C did not carry a 75mm. Forward-firing weapons were two .50 in (12.7 mm) machine guns, one fixed and one flexible. The G and H were the only variants to carry guns larger than the .50 machine gun.

And the B-25 with the 105...

There was no variant of the Mitchell with a 105. The G and H were equipped with a 75, but it was very inaccurate and fired only 3-4 rounds per minute, making it unsuitable for strafing runs that might last only 10-40 seconds. Many crews replaced the cannon with more .50s, and there are records of some installations of either 20mm auto cannon or a British 57mm anti-tank gun.

I wonder why this game doesn't have the option for fleet oilers and supply ships so you can replenish at sea...

Supply at sea was still in early days in 1942.

Well I remember around the time of Coral Sea, the US "fleet oiler" got sunk, and that's why they had to return to port. So it was definitely already a thing. But before that they should rather add things like bomber attacks on islands, or even infantry, tanks and opposed landings and all that stuff. Would make the game great. Anybody any idea if killerfish is even working on sth new?

I still cannot understand what “strategy” the AI is following, how it can continue to put so many ships into the theater, or where those ships are going or what their goal is.

The only thing that the AI was doing in my game, apart from cruiser and submarine patrols, was send escorted convoys to guadalcanal. If they arrived safely, they would bombard the island, and invade with some troops. If I managed to sink all their freighters on the way, they would just turn around. Unfortunately. Didn't even force me to recruit carriers. If you want a nicer AI, try the ABDACOM defensive mod. The AI attacks several islands unpredictably, and the game is much harder overall

I've been trying to figure that out since the early episodes. It seems AI actions are pretty random, uncoordinated, and just kinda dumb. But they do have a LOT of ships available that they can buy over the course of the campaign. Probably not as many now. 😆I'll cover that next episode.

@@jankutac9753 I think you're right. I've watched a bit of that mod on other channels, and it seemed to me that the AI is pretty relentless, on both sides. I'll either play ABDACOM/Centrifugal Offensive or the Pacific mod next.

@@cybereck nice nice, can't wait. The Pacific mod and abdacom have the same mechanics where island maintenance, replenishing planes and rearming ships all cost engineering and fuel. The Pacific mod has a disclaimer that says there are no islands on any tactical map, unfortunately. Also it doesn't have Hawaii. It starts from Midway. That's why I was a bit put off. But I haven't tried it, so can't really say. I have tried abdacom though. You might find it to be the least interesting theatre, but as far as I can say, it's the most fun in terms of mechanics and AI. The only thing that might put you off with abdacom is that the allies have only Hermes with swordfish and Langley with Catalinas as carriers available. Or you'll need to play as the japs if you want Kaga, Akagi etc And the makers of abdacom also have another campaign, the Indian Ocean offensive.

@@cybereck when you play abdacom, your situation reports will be starting like "it's 7:00 am. One of our last five reconnaissance planes saw sth in the water. Everybody hopes it was just a whale. The japs have captured another island. We're lying low and desperately waiting for another week to pass to get new supplies" :-D
