It's crazy how the Tokyo express mod is a mod but it just feels like updates that the actual game should have eventually. Like the models dont look out of place.

The reason why strafing was pretty effective against japanese destroyers IRL by the way is their torpedoes. They used pure oxygen instead of compressed air for an oxidizer, which gave them extra speed and range, but it also meant that any kind of damage to the launchers or any stored reloads would very quickly lead to catastrophic fires.

I had to pause this at 7:18 to tell you I've been listening to Air Apaches by Jay A. Stout about the 345th Bomb Group which was the USAAF premiere "Gunship" Bomb group made up of B-25s. The initial engagement is EXACTLY what the talk about in the book! I absolutely love your stuff, and this is the video that has made me decided I really need this game; they added gunships!!!

The B-25 always reminds me of how William Wyler went up in one near the end of the war to get some basic scenery shots for Thunderbolt, about the P-47. Without hearing protection, he ended up passing out later in the flight and went deaf.

I don't know if this models in the game but IIRC Sunderlands (being seaplanes) carried all their defensive armament on top and the Sunderland drivers' defensive tactic was to get on the deck and keep the Zeros from shooting at their undefended underside. I think this holds true for Emilies.

Question….. I notice when you send your airplanes into attack you have them attack in a formation instead of selecting all of them and hitting attack so they all aim for the same target instead of dropping bombs in a pattern. Is this intentional as a self-imposed house rule? You would have much better hits, as you know, if they all attacked and aimed individually.

I agree on the AA suppression needs; it is one thing for doctrine to direct you to stand tall and keep fighting, it is another to be on fire, surrounded by fire, and under gunfire and still DO it. A level of suppression and disabling of the light/medium AA would be a welcome improvement (temp suppression and damage to disable).

Great vid, love the Tokyo Express updates! I think group bombing makes sense with the Liberators, but the Mitchells seem less effective as a low level group and much more vulnerable than the Lightnings down low.

P38 Lightning are about 380 mph at top speed. The US version of the DeHaviland Mosquitoes. Mind you, the Mossies were well armed with four Browning Machine guns and 4 20mm cannons the maximum speed was less but range of 1200 miles. There was a variant with a 6 pounder AT gun.

My last comment on the subject - Renell Island - okay it couldn't support a port or airfield in real life - but in real life the IJN's super battleships were never in the fight for Guadalcanal. But it's your game - and I love it and how you play (except for Renell Island) .

When u going for deck bombing with B25 or other aircraft try to do and 100 m altitude at 250/255 Knot because large bomber like B25 need much space and time for dropping bomb . Love ur video see u in the next 😘

Good gracious.. A Short Sunderland - the RAF are in the Far East! I hope that you did use one of these in hunting Submarines. These are known as Flying Porcupines. owing to the number of 0.303 and 0.5 Browning Machine Guns it packs. Plus 8 100 lb Bombs or 6 Depth charges.

Those new birds do very good having lots more firepower than the Dauntless, Avenger and Wildcat. Makes the game a lot more realistic. Don´t forget that the Sunderland could be fitted with bombs as well. I would retreat planes from attacking when they are damaged just to save them. Some A20´s seem to be out of ammo so it´s a waste of planes and lives to let them attack again. Is there any indicator when planes are out of ammo? The bomb load for the Lightning is way oversized: with two 1000 lbs. and four 500 lbs. they would break on the ground. Well done.

at Townsend, which version of the b-25 are they? clear nose bombers, or solid nose surface attackers[the solid nose a/c have 8 .50 Machine guns in the nose...plus 4 'package' guns, on the side of the front fuselage...and they can lock the top turret facing forward, giving 14 .50 machine guns facing forward. And the H model[which is probably later in the war] has a 75mm cannon!

@@JacobiJonez I'm on balanced/balanced. I think a lot of his hits were due to skip bombing. 12 havocs with rockets would do moderate damage to a DD. If it's a small escort then you can strafe as seen above. Honestly, my jaw hit the floor when I saw him land all those bombs.

I love seeing the new planes, but it does seem odd that the PBYs and the B-25s are wearing their early national insignia (red dot in the middle of the white star in a blue circle, and the red and white stripes on the rudder of the PBY) instead of the standard white star in the blue circle. The red dot and striped rudder paint job was done away with by the Battle of Midway, let alone the Battle of Guadalcanal. Heck, the B-25 model carries the tail number of one of the Doolittle Raiders. Again, I love the fact that the mod has added all of these important aircraft to the game, but I am surprised that the authors went with an anachronistic skin on at least two of the planes. Hopefully that'll be changed in a future update.

Question. Instead of attacking with flight of aircraft, why not attack with 3 different flights all at once? My assumption is that having the B-24, B-25, and P-38 hitting the convey all at once will reduce your loses while maximizing damage. Attacking with each individual flight allows max AA fire on a smaller number of aircraft. Just my thoughts.

Renneĺl Island did have a seaplane base. At the end of the war they were abandoned and sunk in the lagoon. Do the Sunderland's carry depth charges like they did in the war? They were excellent submarine hunters in the North Atlantic. Do the Catalina's?

The progress bar on Guadalcanal does not move with time, it is about how many troops you land... Just land a big load of troops in a convoy (5,000 - 6,000) and you will take the island.

Little known fact ... Although never deployed as such the P38 could function as a torpedo bomber. It was tested and proved it could carry two (2) torpedoes, one ( 1) under each wing
