It was recently requested that I revisit the F6F-3. I have never been happy with this flight model... and personally, it still feels terribly off.

Funny how that Spitfire seemed sore about the TK when it was entirely his own damned fault, one for going head-on with a Fw-190A, and two for going head-on with an enemy plane that had an ally shooting at it from behind. Between attacking one of the most heavily armed planes at that BR in the game head-on and flying into a friendly's line of fire at the same time, there was only one possible outcome for something so stupid.

Yeah, i do the same. No matter what you type, or in what state the enemy is, there's always a couple of guys that go deep in order to try to get the kill. On fire both engines? Time to dive from 6km high to 2km to attempt to steal!

Hurricane is mostly fabric covered so bullets tend to go through it. Need to hit the fram underneath to do damage. I noted that it was a pilot snipe that finally took it down.

Nice video. Link to beautiful skin? Pro tip: Hellcat will not outdive or outrun a Typhoon, a Hellcat without MEC will make about 315 mph at SL while a Typhoon will make around 335. The Hellcat redlines around 500 mph IAS while Typhoon starts at 510. The Hellcat will outturn and outroll the Typhoon.

bo I figured out that when you do a hammer head on war Thunder when you get halfway through the role when you're airplane goes weightless cut your engine power to 0 it normally helps me a lot so I don't know if it'll help you but just a suggestion

Bo, why do you always try to go up and do a hammerhead? Doing that burns energy, which the F6F-3 needs to be effective. Also, at 8:52, you can outmaneuver the Typhoon at that speed.

Corsairs are better, for the slightly better turning capabilities of the Hellcat the Corsair is faster, climbs better, dives better, rolls better and accelerates faster.

The Hellcat has a weird FM. It's one of those planes that Gaijin never seems to be able to get right no matter how many adjustments they make, with the one consistent thing that Gaijin fucks up no matter what the FM is adjusted to being the weight of the aircraft and its impact on the plane's handling.

+Ethan Mitchell irl the corsair can dive at 500mph. In fact zeros had a hard time rolling right at high speeds, so corsair pilots would dive and pull a hard right roll, in some cases out maneuvering it.

+SOGBIOSHOCK I know this, thanks anyway, though. Too bad Gaijin cant make an accurate flight model. Take the P47 for instance, they nerfed it back in 1.57 and it can't do anything well now. I think the discovery of this weakness of the Zero was found after we captured one and test flew it, looking for flaws. The Whistling Death was, in my opinion, the best prop plane to come out of the war. The F4U-4 was the bsst Corsair variant to be developed in WW2, but the best variant produced was the F4U-5 in the Korean War. That thing could get up to 756kmh and do anything you wanted it to. It could run, turn, dive, climb, take a beating, CAS (3000lbs of bombs), night fight, and destroy with those 4x20mm or 6x50cal. Plus, it's a super sexy plane.

If i may, why does the Hellcat's flight model feel off to you? I mean it kind of feels "Wobbly" to me in a sense when i fly it but granted i don't know that much about the aircraft. So i'm kind of interested to hear what you have to say about it.

Several reasons, but primarily its way to light. Although it feels off to me in every other possible way. It feels more like a Ki-43 to me then a P-47/Corsair. There are also some little details. The F6F-5 is the aircraft that had WEP. The -3 which is in game did not have that feature. It feels wobbly because of the missing weight. General War Thunder wants to make sure an aircraft can hits top speed, climb to the correct altitude in the allocated time, etc. If the flight model meets those parameters then its passed. So the Hellcat may do all the things its suppose to on paper... but be complete crap in game (or even a placeholder). Now that could just be me and my expectations... but there is a reason i don't fly it out to often. The La-5 series is an example of an aircraft that was too heavy in its flight model. Gaijin adjusted its flight model with more horsepower so it could climb to its altitude within the allocated time... But the La-5 would dive like a bat out of hell with that extra weight. Now when I first started playing War Thunder in the days of 1.27. I can recall the F6F-3 being a complete turd that could barely fly. I am thankful that it is at least combat effective now... Its just still not what I purposely envisioned this aircraft reacting like. This thing was an absolute animal in the Pacific and i'm not asking for some magical flight model for it to dominate War Thunder.

I feel like all of the Corsairs have similar problems. They all wobble really mad and dont feel like stable planes at all, especially at higher speeds, like they lack a lot of weight. But when they climb they feel like lumps of lead with the engine of an lawnmower :(

The .50 cals are very hit and miss my experience is much like that hurricane kill lots nothing filled with a fireball every once in awhile

Must be tiny buff because there are games in P80/F84 where its just hit, hit, hit, hit, hit and hit. Other times they get elevator critical and go down, or if the snail gods are with you their wing magically shears off. Take away fire and the .50 cals are pretty bad especially in jet combat. There are so many times where I think to myself if I had a cannon you would be dead...I know because I am simultaneously working on spading the me262 a1. While occasionally you get a spark or two you get no hit, hit, hit; instead you get a nice explosion and a kill and no worry about getting kill stolen. I know .50 cals aren't cannons but what is the point of all these API, API-T and I rounds if jets so rarely start on fire. Its like firing a 30mm HEI-T round but without the HE what are you left with a useless I-T bet the kill rate would go down quite a bit if HE had no effect on jets.
