War Thunder Premium Review: Corsair F. Mk. II [Whistling Death]

Britain's Fleet Air Arm was the first to use the Corsair operationally from carriers. Despite the Corsair's excellent performance in the air; the U.S Navy determined that the aircraft was too risky to land on aircraft carriers because the Corsair's long nose obstructed the pilot's forward view during landing, giving the plane the nickname "Ensign Eliminator" because of its high rate of landing accidents. The British solved the problem with a new landing technique. A skidding turn with the rudder allowed the pilot to maintain line of sight with the carrier while coming in at a safe landing speed. Try landing the Corsair on a carrier in Simulator mode and you will appreciate this.

it gets out climbed by Russian and German p-47, it does fine at 2.7 tbh after flying it. But my opinion

wings were clipped because the british carriers had less headroom than the American carriers. love this Attention to Detail by WT. thanks for the review.was wondering which plane to buy as my Buddy wanted to fly together with me. i like the BnZ of the He100 so i guess i will give this one a try

Magnificent match boss. I don't know if you remember but I was so obsessed with corsairs a few months ago and I kept asking you for videos on it. You were more than happy to oblige as well. Really that's what made me your fan from the get go. The 2.7 corsair is just a fantastic early boom and zoomer and I really learnt how to fly the US tree with it. I have a 7 kill match with it as well but it was in a downtier and I had allies, so your situation was way more tougher and more awesome. Still I have a huge soft spot for this plane. I think your match really showcased the difference between a good pilot and a great one. You just had mountains of patience, first to sideclimb then to set the terms of the engagement. You had no issues running away and setting up again when things turned against your favor. You dragged the match out and split them up and killed them one by one. It's really good to see for new pilots I think; the amount of patience you need to cultivate and how to pace yourself to carry matches like that. I've been carrying a few matches like that recently and it was a very similar recipe for success.

Anyone else notice this corsair has a different wing tip to the US versions? That's because the Brits clipped the wings by 8 inches to accomodate them in the hangars of their aircraft carriers.

Jengar, you should really try using MEC. With MEC you would have been able to WEP your engine continually until the 7-minute ADI tank was emptied. And on planes like the P-51D, you can literally WEP forever, or close to it.

Drop D You're right. They were made shorter due to the limitations of British carriers (I believe wingspan limitations were much shorter than on American carriers). Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct, they were clipped 8 inches to clear the deckhead. The clipping also (though probably not intended) improved the Corsair's sink rate, thus reducing the plane's propensity to float on landing. The Royal Navy made carrier landings more viable for Corsairs as well; developing a shallow turn to keep the deck in eyesight while coming in for the final, since the nose hid the carrier.

Especially afte .50 cal buff, this is a nice tool to make the game fun... Many time surprised when flying french F6F and killing planes at 1+ km... Used properly, as you say, this is a monster :)

Best use of this aircraft for me is Naval battles, use this with a 1000Ib bomb and forget any regrets in buying golden eagles. It works like a dream in Naval battles

sounds like that plane has a lawnmower engine. I think about playing, then I remember the engine sounds don't function properly anymore. so I then play something else.

Again Gayjin fucks with ps4 controls and ruins a big part of our ability to fly w computer players. I hope it is a bug and not a planned change but right now ps4 can’t lock on targets behind them. Really puts us at a disadvantage when being tailed. Ds4 when used properly can hang with mouse aim granted the lock on system works like it used to. End rant. And to all the pc master race oh get a pc comments. Yes I could fly w my hotas or get a mouse, but sometimes I just want to show what ds4 can do and kill from my couch.
