War Thunder Sim Guide #3 - Takeoff and Landing

Hey everyone,
This video is designed to introduce new players to the basic concepts of takeoff and landing with different aircraft in War Thunder Simulator Battles. As with my other tutorials I keep my technical jargon to a minimum so that I can be understood by a wider audience, regardless of their knowledge on aircraft, flight mechanics etc.
With this video we will be covering a few aircraft, as no aircraft really flies the same and this applies to takeoff and landing as well. We will be looking at the Hawker Hurricane, Messerschmidt Bf 109, Focke Wulf 190, Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, and the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II.
I'm hoping this video covers a wide enough range of aircraft to help most people out. As I said before, I am trying to keep these videos simple but informative, without the need for lots of technical jargon.
I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has watched and enjoyed these tutorials so far. I've actually been approached by several people in game who have said they are the reason they finally got into sim and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy ^_^ You guys are all fantastic and I hope you are all staying safe out there in these weird times!

I was once told "most planes wants to take off on their own if you keep it pointed straight down the runway, so just let the plane level out and continue to let it go straight" I kinda took this to heart and it's been working well for me so far

I'm very new to sim and these guides have helped a lot, but when i'm in fighters such as the p-51 it's very hard to get enemies off my tail without flat spinning and i was wondering if you could make a guide into certain evasive and offences moves, as well as some tips to avoiding tragedies such as said flat spinning. :)

I find P-Factor so strong that i literally cant takeoff cleanly, If at all.

prop torque effect, best described as a heavy wing. in ww2 my grandfather had take off trim settings to help counter p factor and prop torque effect. (F4U-4 corsair historical )6 degrees right rudder to combat p factor 6 degrees right alieron down to combat prop torque effect ( the left wing being the "heavy" wing) and 1 degree nose up elevator. nice videos man!

When I fly, I always go left and right. When I go to the opposite direction, it rolls then it crashes. I have an Fw 190 Edit : btw I spin a lot

MEC is also important in SIM for takeoff: By putting your prop pitch at 100% (coarse prop pitch ),it makes for an easier take off. When you are in the air, and done climbing, you can drop your prop pitch back to between 70 - 75% or a fine pitch. The finer pitch will also give you more speed and conserve fuel. Unfortunately, Gaijin not knowing that prop pitch is separate from RPM has tied the two together. On some planes this can result in blowing up the engine before you even get off the runway. German planes are the worst ones Gaijin has made this happen. Prop pitch is separate from RPM. Prop pitch is the angle the blades are in on the prop hub. In IL2 they recommend 12.30 for take off prop pitch (FYI).

pitch of prop is directly tied to rpm. you can over speed the engine if it is wrong.

Why won't anyone acknowledge that none of this works on PS4. ITS IMPOSSIBLE. I've been in a sim lobby for nearly an hour 10 now and I've yet to take off without the nose diving and it flipping over. Not to mention as soon as I'm in motion the only plane I'm allowed use bounces all over the run way so like what the fuck

I had an easier time taking off and landing in bombers before I got comfortable doing it in fighter planes. :) (tho it got easier flying in fighters once I bought a joystick)

Thanks! 😎 I'm still flying (attempting that is) Arcade, but SIM is definitely on my to-do list. 😃 Anyways, I'm trying to find a way to be able to steer (turn sharply) while on the runway/ground. Is it possible to remap the default key "B" that is set for both brakes into separate keys (left brake key & right brake key) and also add (map) rrudder control direction to/for each brake key? I hope my Comment makes some bit of sense... lol 😆

Yes you can re-map the brake keys. If you are running the "full real" control scheme for sim it should come up as an option for seperate keybinds :)

Nice video. since you asked: Can you show us how to aim with the radical of the Mig 15? It moves all over the place so I'm not able to lead shots properly. I just had my first fight with the Mig 19s and I got 4 kils but I'm pretty much useless with the Mig15.

Try throttling up slowly and tapping the yaw the opposite direction as you gain speed

Agreed - your aircraft will either naturally yaw to the left or right depending on what way the propeller spins. Corrective rudder will fix this :)

In Sim EC you need to bring a plane that meets the minimum BR requirement first. So if you are playing EC3 (3.7 - 4.7) you need to take out a plane with a BR of 3.7 to earn spawn points for the other ones.

@@TeaRexChannel its mainly just a problem I've find with the bf109f craft, no amount of rudder saves it unfortunately. Aside from that tho this tutorial did help quite a lot wiht others so cheers.
