Sin has consequences. This reality is true for individuals, tribes and nations. Numbers 31 picks up the story line from Numbers 25. The children of Israel sinned against the Lord by committing idolatry at Baal Peor. This happened because of the influence of the Midianites and the advice of Balaam the prophet. God asks the children of Israel to exact vengeance for Him.

Absolutely right, it's about justice, it's about punishing people who do evil, it's about putting things right. The Midianites had made an unprovoked attack on the Israelites, which resulted in 24,000 Israelites dying of plague. God's subsequent justice brought compensation for the Israelites, in the form of 32,000 people and a large number of flocks and herds.

Morgan Delaney is referring to the difficulty Christians have in squaring sex slavery/rape and child murder with a loving god.
