virpil documentation says "For replacing springs, take them off from cams using round-nose pliers and set the ones you want.". The pliers worked fine for me and i also tried fishing line for science and it worked too. thanks for the video and see you in the stars
@chris570356 ай бұрын
I doubled-up some fishing line on a key ring like in the video and it worked a treat. I needed to wear gloves to torque the ones on the long side, but that was just because of lack of space to pull on the loop.

This is awesome Noob. It reminds me of my high school shop class. Thanks so much for this, I definitely learned a lot from you walking through the process and explaining your steps. The camera work is also on point. I appreciate you going in real-time and not fast forwarding. VirPil should hire you to do tutorials of all their products.

I have been trying to decide between cm3, or warbird-d. I like to to fly helicopters and general aircraft and it looks like the warbird-d would be excellent for both. Also noticed in Virpil’s US website that the d is about $60 US cheaper. Now need to decide on grip and extension.😮😊

I lost the weird allen wrench for removing the base. Made one out of an ikea "unbrako" key that i cut with an angle grinder (with safety squint on). Worked fine. Those L shaped tools are really cheap anyway, instead of having to wait for shipping from virpil. Can use a fine metal saw instead of an angle grinder.

Are you using the lazy susan for extra difficulty points?

I’m tempted getting a VKB Gunfighter mk4 MCGU but Virpil’s base looks more solid here I’m mainly flying a F14 in DCS and playing some SC

That spring tool is pretty handy, Doesn’t look like it would be too difficult to make my own.

True. The thinner that wire is, the better.

This looks fun to tinker with. Knowing me, I'd come up with "extra" parts, though.

You just saved my butt after fighting with that damn spring for fifteen straight minutes.

it would be great if a better description was on the difference between each cam set. no that shape but what it feels like when in use . eg this one hold centre better. this one doesn't feel the centre. this one gives more resistance when moving off centre . great video though I could see how hard it was doing it for the camera the R5 great camera yes I have one too for the last 2 years Oh does the clutch hold the flight stick in place as if to use it for the throttle even if its for a short time thanks
@NOOBIFIER1337 Жыл бұрын
This is true, but the name actually describes the feeling. “soft centre” or “no centre” ?

beggars cant be choosers, and i definitely appreciate the video guide. But you certainly picked the easy side to swap the cams..that spring on the other side is a nightmare.

Alright, first thing, ❤❤❤ your videos! When purchasing these high end flight sticks, does the manufacturer include these extra parts, or are they a set you can purchase all at once?

I mentioned possible nyogel application on the clutches. Every dampening clutch I have used since VKB (does it by default) feels loads better with a small nyogel application. here is a video on the application on a cm3 base kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYW1dIqahrCNgNk&ab_channel=HavocCompanyClan
@Spelljammer1 Жыл бұрын
this looks to be the same clutches, so probably the same procedure to grease them. I agree that nyogel makes a noticeable difference.

I watch all of your reviews maybe some constructive criticism is get a camera that can face straight down on the disassembling. Where the camera is now your hand blocks out a lot. this is not supposed to be negative. Keep up the great work.

The spring you changed is much easier than the other one, which is tucked inside and incredibly hard to put back on, impossible even, with that "tool". Using a small screwdriver and creating leverage by hooking the screwdriver inside of spring hook and outside of the cam, than simply pushing away against/from cam until the spring hook drops down and catches the screw is far faster and easier.
@NOOBIFIER1337 Жыл бұрын
I never found it difficult. Perhaps I pulled from the other side
@crankytec Жыл бұрын
IMHO, you don't need this special tool at all. In fact, after screwing around with this tool for 15 minutes, trying to put a heavy spring to the side, it took me just several seconds with a small screwdriver instead.
@or10nsharkfin2 ай бұрын
The screwdriver method was what did it for me; it took me an hour to attempt to install the Extra Heavy spring onto the Y-Axis cams using the VKB spring hook tool and then when I just decided to use my screwdriver to bring it down it basically happened the first time I attempted it.

Will that throttle trick removing the spring work with the origal warbrd or is the warbrd d needed?
@NOOBIFIER1337 Жыл бұрын
It would, but it would flop around without a clutch

My VKB Tool got broken after switching the springs two times. 😞 Hoped it would be made differntly with Virpil.
@Butzitube Жыл бұрын
are those the same cams, as those that were used on the earlier warBRD models?
@NOOBIFIER1337 Жыл бұрын
Same shape, not the same cams. The older ones were machined differently
@Bland-79 Жыл бұрын
I got my WarBRD D's and sticks in the mail. I switched the cams to the cosmo's with no bumps. For some reason the left stick has more tension than the right now. I have the right cams and used the same springs. Any idea what I might have did wrong?
@NOOBIFIER1337 Жыл бұрын
It’s possible you don’t have the same springs in each
@Bland-79 Жыл бұрын
@TheNOOBIFIER1337 I'll check, but I'm certain I didn't unpack the other springs when changing to the no bump cosmocams. Hopefully, it's that simple, though.
@mrbend2 ай бұрын
Appreciate the effort, but mate, your hands are in the way all the time when it counts most. Maybe put the camera a bit further up.
@diminios Жыл бұрын
I really don't know why 1) Virpil doesn't have that spring removal tool and 2) why I didn't think of using it when switching cams in my new Virpil sticks. Edit: Daaaamn, the new gimbal is a lot more convenient to tinker with than the old WarBRD.
