Sadly this is GW's idea of a "perfect" starter box. High profit margin and an absolute requirement for the player to buy more if they like the game just to get the full base experience.

I picked it up because it was cheaper in Canada than sourcing the two warbands that I was looking for (and as primarily a painter, they offer lots of opportunity for a challenge) - because not offered by GW while they push out Crypt of Blood (and had a paypal credit) - and Underworlds isn't really cheaper for Canadians

Great video. Bladeborn is another good alternative starter but it’s hard to find, sadly. Comes with proper tokens and three sets of warcry dice in addition to two small teams. I also like that you have a reasonable approach to this review and not raging clickbait 😂

I was really interested in this box so it would be a great way for me to get my wife or friends to play some tabletop games with me without overwhelming them I was expecting more of the $60 price range

If you have the money it’s still a great way to start! Alternatively go for a different pair of underworlds warbands that might appeal more to your wife and friends. I’ve a much better chance of convincing my wife to play goblins than stormcast 😂

Don’t have the models or the terrain. When I saw this I was really interested. I already play Warcry and have the Ghur boxes, but I don’t have these specific models. To be honest, obviously I was not interested in this as an intro to Warcry. I was just greedy for what I thought would be some attractively priced plastic. But $110 is just too much. I was thinking $60-$80. We’ll see what happens. Maybe this will be a repeat of Dominion and show up on secondary markets at a discount?

It's barely a starter, no 3D movement in the terrain and not even a full 1000 pts. I'll pass and ebay the campaign book

I don't understand why they didn't just copy the KT starter set, and have rotmire v horns with just the scatter terrain. Then the price would be somewhat understandable.

If only! Those are half the price! Indeed the recent Space Marine box has a card board, over 20 models, and a proper ruler. Even the box is better quality 😂

Are you sure that the book contains the rules? I bought a Heart of Ghur box and there was a core rulebook and a book with lore + rules for the terain.

Description from the GW site says it has the core rules, some background for the two warbands, and a series of battleplans that I assume have an order to ease you in and tell a story. We should find out today once vide from people who got it go live

I’ve bought every single Warcry box (including the original terrain boxes) and the original first starter set, catacombs, Red Harvest and all four of the second edition box sets. This is going to be the first starter I’m going to pass on.

I bought it today (late 2023) for 65€ including p&p. 😅 The saving grace of this "set" aka atrocity is that I can add more already available duplicates of tye minis from Underworlds and 'Lost Relic'. Since GW has made the full rules available as download, I will not punish them for not including it. It seems they put some work into the campaign book. 50€ would be a fair price. I hate paper maps, but I already own the Garden of Mors board. So yeah, this is a set nobody should buy for the original price.

I was elated when I heard that a Warcry Starter set would give me an affordable entry point into the game, and the subsequently gutted when I saw the meager contents and how disjointed it was compared to the cheaper Underworlds starter sets (which are great products only missing Magic Dice to be perfect IMO). I guess GW just wants to fill their money wheelbarrow with tweezers instead of a shovel in this particular instance.

There's not much point including narrative rules when the fighters in the box don't qualify for most narrative mechanics. Also, the rules for actually using the fighters in the box are locked away in OOP Tome of Champions and White Dwarfs. This product has no idea what it wants to be, which means it's a far cry from what it needs to be.

I bought two of the Varanite Siphon Camp sets for 24 dollars each from online retailers and plan on using that for Warcry and AOS. Don't need a rulebook, but a full table of terrain, full sets of tokens, and two heavy cardboard boards that I can even use for 40k and Kill Team. Seems like a steal to me.

Yeah, that would be good. Looking at the dollar price that would be $50 for the book leaving $60 for the rest. At that price point I'd still be tempted to make the board cardboard. That would mean the only upgrades needed from there would be additional minis.

I've been tyring to get into warcy all over, there is just no single box that makes real value for me, I have the starter underworlds and I'm going to print myself some terrain, and even maybe end up using Age of Fantasy Skirmish rules, GW makes it really really hard to get into any of their games, forget about trying to make my friends to join with those prices. Don't get me wrong, I can afford the hobby, it just feels you are wasting your money. I would rather pay $300 for a full box with full high quality terrain, full warbands, and full books than this cheap bad intro to the game. Thanks fo the video really well made!

For sure. Hopefully they do some new scenery kits with buildings for AoS. That and a pair of warband boxes should make for a good setup. You probably can get warcry tokens on ebay. It would be a little more than a proper box but you would get to pick the warbands you like which always helps.

I could see if you were just wanting one of the warbands from the box, you could potentially sell the other to recoup some of that cost. Otherwise seems like a bit of a mis step with pricing it so high.

A ccidentally bought this box, thinking it was 55 euros. But it was 85 euros! (Sticker was vague) Fair, i like the models. But this box vs warhammer 40k starter box which has 38 models.. it kinda feels bad even if it was 55 euros..

People have been complaining about GW prices longer than a lot of players of the hobby have even been alive. Instead of complaining just do a video about how to play it by just downloading the rule book. I know this is YT and well the algorithm caters to negativity but that doesn't mean our hobby has to abide by this. Nor do we have to continue the trend of complaining about the prices then buying it anyhow.

So it's a starter box but you need to buy more models to actually play a real game of Warcry, you need to buy the real core rules because this doesn't have it, and you need to buy a gaming matt because this one is a piece of paper and then you need to buy more terrain because this isn't enough for a game. Sounds like people would be far better off simply buying an warband, rule book, terrain, matt and core book than this! It's just going to put people off once they realise!

Strange wildly over priced box.. A starter that falls short of playing a full game? Paper board should mean a lower price. Who is this for? Current warcry players will balk, most new players will balk at the price for 1/2 a warband. Xandire has been in soooooo many GW kits in the last year and a half one wonders if they're looking to get rid of extra sprues. Strange box. I forsee them gathering dust at the flgs.

So here is the terrible conundrum we are placed in. This is not meant for current players at all. It is meant for completely raw new people as a low investment compared to a ghur box of overwhelming sprues. The paper mat is garbage, but the terrain is cool add ins for other stuff. So the conundrum is that if we dont buy it - then gw says warcry doesnt sell - or current players buy to support and literally need nothing. It's tough because they cannot measure the proper metrics to success of this because they are busy adding more rules and terrible balance to kill team and 40k.

Weirdly, I think this might be okay for current players. The two bladeborn warbands are really good! I already know I love Warcry, so spending this kind of money to get some awesome sculpts and top tier fighters isn't too bad. Obviously I'd ditch pretty much everything else beyond the fighters, terrain, and cards. I suspect the attempt here was to make a product that would appeal to both existing players and new players, so you take two great underworlds warbands and pad it out with all the parts a new player needs. Unfortunately it failed at both. For the existing players, many of us already have these fighters (I do) and the mark up due to the new player content makes it more cost effective to buy two different underworlds warbands or even two full Warcry warbands. For new players, they're not really interested in what models they're getting they just want to start, so paying premium prices for fancier models means they lose out on what could have been two full warbands.

Lol! Compared to the other starter sets - This product is garbage - Incomplete Warbands - The actual Rulebook (missing) - Terrain = the worst terrain ever for Warcry (no raised platforms at all) also hardly any terrain pieces. This should be called a "Beginners Set". or "Learn to Play Set".

You're not wrong. Although it's very close to being a great starter box. The Bladeborn warbands are nice because you can slot them into any other warband in the faction. Then learn to play guide seems pretty decent. But yeah, it's way over costed for what essentially is a handful of models, a tiny bit of terrain, and a bundle of stuff you need to upgrade anyway.

Easy to play - Yes! The rules are really straight forward. You can definitely make it more complicated if you want, but if someone gives you a bunch of fighters and cards you're good to go. Easy to get into? Also yes, with the free pdfs and any fantasy models you're good to go. Unfortunately theres a massive gap getting that info to new players. You definitely need an experienced player who knows what they're doing to make it simple for you. This box could have been that bridge, indeed the contents are pretty good as guiding a player through the rules. Unfortunately after buying this, you will need to then get the rulebook, buy more fighters to get to full warbands, and replace the board. So you end up paying a premium price and then end up having to replace almost all of it.
