It's amazing how things were built to last a lifetime back then. These old machines also get your clothes cleaner and the wringers really dry out the clothes better than the spin cycle on modern machines.

The Vintage Piper I’m going to be purchasing a hand cranked wringer real soon! Seems like many people are washing clothes by hand these days! The company is on back order! The clothes do come out much cleaner doing them by hand!

The Vintage Piper not sure what machine you have but they definitely leave stuff damp compared to modern washing machines

@@epiphgd4302 in my experience having a tub full of water with a standard agitator, cleans better than one of those wash plate HE machines or even a front load washer.

Great old machine! Love to see stuff like this kept out of the landfills! Edit: follow-up to my original post - I "Shazamed" the music and discovered it's a song by Howard Lanin's Ben Franklin Dance Orchestra - "Don't Wake Me Up, Let me Dream (1925). Fantastic choice of music to show off your vintage washer!

This is amazing! My mother would always go on and on about how this was the type of machine or similar to the one that her mother had in the house when she was growing up. I've only ever seen pictures before, never one in action --- it makes me want one for myself!

My mother raved about these old machines also. Looks like she was right!

Thanks for posting this video, my wife and I are watching "A Christmas Story", and my wife asked me what the "green thing" was in their kitchen in the movie- so I showed her this video. My mom and dad's house had one when we moved in back in the late 80's when I was a teenager...an early 50's version that is. Still worked, but the wringer terrified me, haha.

My grandma was still using one of them up till 5 years ago along with the out house , then we put her in a old people's home she is 95 years old. Her washer had a gas engine an it was her mom's who had it from new from the sears book . It was sold with the farm .

That is awful. Why did you put her in an old people's home? She obviously loved her independence and living at home.

a beautiful machine you should be proud…and if you restored what a great job..I have a 1936 house and the music makes you want to go back …the hell with so called progress …progress is what you call it when you are out of ideas and the best has already been placed in our path….

Actually, I have three early electric wringer washers in my garage myself. First off, although I'll use the computer, digital camera, etc., I'm really not all that impressed with modern technology, and not everybody will agree with me on this, for sure not. For some people, modern technology might be great, and I'll respect that, but for me, I prefer vintage technology, and technology from the 1920s to be more specific. I have an extensive collection of antique electric and mechanical equipment, again, mainly from the 1920s, in my garage. (Just a quick tangent, I feel that my life would be better, more positive, and far more fulfilling of this was the 1920s rather than 2022) Not many of my peers feel that way though. (I am 29 currently and I turn 30 in May of 2023). I have always been mesmerized by the wringer washers. I have heard people site the risk of getting your hand caught between the wringer rollers and mutilated as a definite disadvantage of these early washers, and that's true (although I don't think it would "mutilate" your hand, maybe break your fingers, but not destroy your hand. I am aware of the very real possibility of an electrical fault, though. Back in that day, obviously the electric motor wouldn't be grounded, wouldn't be double insulated, and wouldn't be thermally protected. Not to mention that the wash water would be in relatively close proximity to the motor with virtually no provision for keeping the water away from the motor itself. I don't think the wringer would be all that dangerous, I'd be more concerned with the prospect of an electrical short of electric shock.

Can you tell me where and how you got it and if anyone out there is mechanically inclined can build me one like this one or where I can purchase one thanks
