is this vacuum what kirby copied the for three design for three vacuums because it does look like it I love Kirby vacuums that are so vintage it looks like it came from a nother dimension 😁
@ExcelsiorElectric Жыл бұрын
At the time, basically all vacuums looked very similar to each other. Kirby and Royal kept that "early vacuum design" a long time. So now when someone looks at an old vacuum, they notice how similar it resembles a Kirby.

Actually, I have three early electric wringer washers in my garage myself. First off, although I'll use the computer, digital camera, etc., I'm really not all that impressed with modern technology, and not everybody will agree with me on this, for sure not. For some people, modern technology might be great, and I'll respect that, but for me, I prefer vintage technology, and technology from the 1920s to be more specific. I have an extensive collection of antique electric and mechanical equipment, again, mainly from the 1920s, in my garage. (Just a quick tangent, I feel that my life would be better, more positive, and far more fulfilling of this was the 1920s rather than 2022) Not many of my peers feel that way though. (I am 29 currently and I turn 30 in May of 2023). I have always been mesmerized by the wringer washers. I have heard people site the risk of getting your hand caught between the wringer rollers and mutilated as a definite disadvantage of these early washers, and that's true (although I don't think it would "mutilate" your hand, maybe break your fingers, but not destroy your hand. I am aware of the very real possibility of an electrical fault, though. Back in that day, obviously the electric motor wouldn't be grounded, wouldn't be double insulated, and wouldn't be thermally protected. Not to mention that the wash water would be in relatively close proximity to the motor with virtually no provision for keeping the water away from the motor itself. I don't think the wringer would be all that dangerous, I'd be more concerned with the prospect of an electrical short of electric shock.

Any idea of the date of this model please? When I worked for an electrical retailer many years ago I learned that Hoover had records of all their models so could provide dates & even spare parts for the very early ones. The oldest Hoover we accepted in part exchange for a new one dated to 1929.
@ExcelsiorElectric4 жыл бұрын
I believe model 750 dates to about 1932 or 1933. The one from 1929 could have been a model 700 or 725.
@tiga41804 жыл бұрын
@@ExcelsiorElectric Thanks for the info. The one from 1929 worked but sadly had a broken fan blade, so may have caused excessive wear if used. We used it in a window display, then it mysteriously disappeared, otherwise may have put in a bid for it. Yours sounds great, can hear that distinctive beating/sweeping action.

Nice! But it makes me sad because mine is still in pieces. Yours is pretty much the only Hawk I've ever heard of, though Clements in general are rarely heard of. They did indeed manufacture under many marques... probably mostly for small department stores. Although the Packard marque was probably paired with cars. But not the Cadillac name, which Clements very loudly proclaimed that they trademarked before the car maker. Interestingly, pre WWII, Clements was a major name in vacuum cleaners. They seemed to slowly fade into obscurity.

Lee Maxell at the Oldewash museum has an example, and talks about it on a KZbin video shot by his son. As far as I know, this was an optional agitator used for washing delicates, and could be changed out for the regular agitator..

@WalterKnox3 жыл бұрын
@@Bobbythefanman yes, but i used to have one as well that was a 120v model, and there was a resistor on the board that got extremely hot, and the board was actually blackened and the plastic of the case slightly melted. so even if the US models were not recalled, they were made of non fire retardant plastic, they had cotton in the motors, and they had parts that got hot enough to melt. so i would still have a hard time leaving it on when i was not around.
