Large-scale fire brigade operation in Bochum Wattenscheid - major fire destroys warehouse for construction machinery directly on the A40 - 120 workers on duty
Bochum, November 16, 2021 - On Monday evening (November 15, 2021) there was a major fire in Bochum Wattenscheid at 9:35 p.m. In the street 'Im Steinhof', directly next to the A40, a warehouse of a construction machinery dealer burned down. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
The Bochum fire brigade was on site with around 120 fire fighters from the professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigade. A massive fire-fighting attack with 10 nozzles, three of which via turntable ladders, prevented the fire from spreading to a workshop hall, outdoor storage areas and a diesel tank outside. A drone with a thermal imaging camera was also used to explore the site.
Due to the smoke development, there was a warning of unpleasant smells from the smoke development for parts of Wattenscheid, Gelsenkirchen and Essen. The warning app NINA requested that doors and windows be kept closed.
At around 11:15 p.m., the warehouse fire was under control.
Several 100 meters of hose line had to be laid for the extinguishing water supply. Extinguishing the fire at the site was very difficult, as there were many nests of fire under the partially collapsed hall structure.
The location of the fire should first be checked by a fire watch by daybreak. Then a specialist company will begin the controlled demolition of the hall in order to be able to uncover even the last nests of fire.
Pollutant measurements were carried out by several measuring vehicles in the vicinity of the fire location, but increased pollutant values could not be measured.
