I totally get what you mean about finding it to be kinda weird to play as the proto-frames, but i see it a little bit differently. When playing, i always imagine that it's My character (drifter or operator), and one of my chosen warframes, fighting together as a duo. A partnership, just like it's explained in the lore. Umbra might be the only one who can actually fight on it's own, but i still imagine that the Warframe is helping guide the battle on some way, if only mentally perhaps. (Jade's background story has something like this) After getting closer to the end of the vod, i have a theory about what happened with Erra's possession, and why they haven't done anything beyond New War. So, at the end of the quest, Wally breaks through the veil momentarily, before being banished again by Lotus. I imagine that the Man in the Wall is the one that resurrected Erra and made him insane, and the reason that the archons come back is Wally's influence. It would make sense if, after 1999, we had to fight against Erra in our war against Wally, pushing his influence out of the Origin System. There's holes in this theory, but it also makes enough sense
