+jkrfan7 Dude, there's a whole room full of teenagers in this scene........................... What probably did happen was the crew had the entire scene shot before this question without telling anyone other than Lightman and Liggett............................ and then Lightman just winged it the first time. That was probably how it happened. The laughter is probably from the kids that are in the room.
@jkrfan7
@jkrfan7 9 жыл бұрын
nudist1033 From IMDB: "When David makes a joke directed at his teacher about asexual reproduction the laughter heard afterwards is considered to be the rest of the kids in the classroom. But John Badham (director) said that some of the crew didn't know the punch line and laughed out loud during the scene. That laughter was left in the sound track, and if you listen closely you will hear what is clearly adults laughing out loud, rather than classroom sniggering."

Ouch for you! When I was in high school, I had a B grade in 1st. semester Biology and then a C grade in 2nd. semester biology in 2007-2008 in my sophomore year of high school and that was because the tests were killing my grade. In college, I received an F in university biology because I failed the final exam (which was a 100 questions) and I had two hours to complete the exam. My university level biology syllabus stated if you get an F on the exam, you fail the class even if you get an A in everything else. Biology was my least favorite subject in high school and in college. Why? Because you have to do a lot of memorizing and applying some of the stuff you learned in biology. Not to mention, there was a lot of Biology jargon (e.g. Symbiosis, Mitosis vs Meiosis, Photosynthesis I preferred Chemistry and Physics over Biology. Why again? Because they have lots of math compared to biology and the lab experiments are fun compared to biology. True, Physics math is harder than the math in Chemistry. But, the concepts in Chemistry are harder to understand than the concepts in Physics. I was more of a Physics person than a Chemistry person because I love math. Bottom lines is that Biology is a tough subject but so are Physics and Chemistry especially at the college level. But, it is worth learning these subjects.

Hey, it was 1983. Ronald "Ray Gun" Reagan was President, we were just coming out of the 70's. There were still people saying "far out" for crying out loud. I asked my 8th grade teacher (in 1983) why we didn't do "stop and drop" drills in case of atomic attack. You know what she told me? Not words of comfort, I can tell you. She said, "Sweety, you live withing 50 miles of well over 100 primary targets, including Travis Air Force Base (The main hub for military transport on the West coast) less than 10 miles away. If there is a nuclear war "stop and drop" won't help." Teachers are suppose to comfort children, not scare the shit out of them!

***** When driving a car, is it not your responsibility to operate the car safely? If you have an accident, for whatever reason, you have failed to operate the car safely. Would you not agree with that? If the student fails to learn, the teacher has FAILED TO TEACH. It doesn't matter who's fault it is. Did you fail to read my statement. "It never occurs to BAD teachers...." Even good teachers will fail from time to time, just as even good drivers will have accidents from time to time. It's why you wear seat belts and pay to have air bags in your car. However bad teachers fail more often, and will have more students in each class getting F's. The teacher in this class shows off the F's as if the students are stupid. He doesn't realize they HE'S the stupid one.

Eric Taylor The car analogy only works if you drive it for under an hour, five days a week. And then other people get to drive it and pass it around for the rest of its time. If it runs out of gas, it's not entirely because of you. The teacher isn't the only influence on a student's progress and attitude. Good or bad, the student could easily disregard their teachings.

I wonder if naming the character Lightman was meant to be deliberately symbolic --- as in he brings / brought light or was lightweight? He certainly shed light on what to do to solve the problem of the computer treating the game as real and wanting real war.

In 2019 that teacher would've been fired and arrested for criminal verbal assault and harassment of juveniles.

No so, since no teacher is that bold to say such a thing...so it goes without me saying it as well. Just a dumb movie scene that had nothing at all to do with the actual plot and could have done without this...but am thinking that Ferris Bueller "persona" may have had some influence in this??

@@xtreme1002003 Maybe in college, but at the high school i attended sometimes the guys next to me would be looking to see what i made on tests, or would just flat out ask me, but that was actually normal back then so i just told them I made an F. But did sometimes remind them what that letter meant to me, as far as people minding their own eFFing business, and i think they got the point!

I don't see real harassment just a teacher asking students' questions. Showing every student there Lightman's grade might be bullying though

@@stefanieprejean6609 Teachers did that to me all the time. The solution to bad students is not to humiliate them by calling on them for an answer that you know they will get wrong or revealing their Fs to the entire class. Plus, some students may be unable to pay attention due to personal issues over which they have no control, like dyslexia or a dysfunctional home life.

According to google: Who "invented" asexual reproduction? "Charles Bonnet was a naturalist and philosopher in the mid eighteenth century. His most important contribution to embryology was the discovery of parthenogenesis in aphids, proving that asexual reproduction of offspring was possible. Jun 10, 2009" I decided I wanted to know after watching this clip several times a year, for years.

"Nitrogen nodules" do not cling to the roots of plants, as they are part if the root. And that's not what they are called (or at least should be called). Why do hands cling to your body ? Now what do they do, that is a valid question.
