Wargames Atlantic: Un aperçu des Grognards! The best dressed soldiers of the Death Fields!

First off, that's enough with me ruining the French language. I can barely manage to speak American as it is!
If you've ever had the inclination to make fancy 19th century- esque uniforms for your guard legions, this is the kit to do it with. Plus it's all plastic.
Not only that, Wargames Atlantic really want all out with this kit when it comes to extra heads. I don't think I've ever seen a company throw as many sprues of heads in one box as this. All the head options include both gas masked and bare faced versions which was a nice touch. Certainly could think of a few different guard regiments that these would work great for...
There's a lapel looking piece that I'm not sure what its purpose is- my first thought was it was a neck guard for the kepi like the Foreign Legion would wear in Africa. Any thoughts?
You also get the typical special weapons that one might see in a 40k game.
Regarding the parts, my only real gripe is a lack of multiple sword arms and pistols. I'd love to make a unit of skirmishers (or bearskinned berserkers, which I will make a thing eventually). Perhaps when the eventual heavy weapon teams come out we might see some expansion parts, much like what Dreamforge did with their Eisenkern expansion box.
Definitely going to be keeping my eyes peeled for their upcoming kits. In the meantime I wonder how well the Afghans and these guys would mix to make up some Tallarn units...

Love the look of these guys but I am also a Napoleonic war gamer. I have decide to go with these guys for my Imperial Guard since you have such a variety of ways to put them together. My plan would to have the normal Imperial Guard squads have the Bearskin hats and take the ones with the Shako's hat to be Platoon and squad leaders. The Kepi's and Helmets to be used by Assault Imperial Guard squads. Another thing get 8 to 10 of these boxes (I do only believe in fielding large armies) and you get up to 240 Imperial Guardsmen for a faction of what that number would cost you from GW and quite frankly better miniatures as well.

Keep an eye out for the Death Fields "Space Dwarf" type models. They will dual wield axes.

I don't like the officer options available on the sprues and do not enjoy the rifle end/bayonet design but otherwise I really enjoy this kit. good review glad you went with the Kepi Heads.

Yeah there are. There's even a few little bits on the main sprue of pouches, grenades, and holsters. Really feels like they laid out this kit really well. Plus the giant pile of heads you get!

I think those weird cloth bits are supposed to go on the back of the caps over the neck. Sorta like a sun guard.

Are we speaking about "Les Groniar"? (best pronunciation, trust me!) I grabbed quite a few boxes to complete some imperial guard regiments which displayed 19th century likeness. But one thing is missing there... Where's the French blue? ;-)

Hey, I painted one guy in Legion Etrangere colors! That's pretty French! Admitedly his coat ended up darker than I wanted. Now if I could paint more than one...

@@ObscuritiesinMiniature uh-oh, really? I guess I didn't make out the blue, my bad! Since I'm painting quite a lot of French blue, I found an interesting way of doing so. I don't know if you start on a clear base, but I tried the GW contrast Leviadon blue on a grey seer base. Dark but still vibrant (some dark powerful blue would do as well) I usually use contrast to base and shade my minis at the same time. Then I do some highlights. If you wanna go crazy on them, you can highlight them up to Maccrage blue (ultramarine by Vallejo, French blue C by Foundry, etc...) or any other colorful blue you like. With this size of minis, it's really hard to keep them too realistic (at some point I couldn't distinguish my French from my Prussians!)

They're Grunts. Grognard means grunt. "Grunting" is literally "grogner" in French. A grogrard is someone who is characterized by grunting. Just call them grunts, that's what they are.
