your video was very inspirational about 2 month ago apparently. I just stumbled upon it again, just now, seeing my table, my scatter, my buildings, and then seeing your video again is funny. I think your video made my realize that its all organic and lived in, and thats ok. :D thanks!

I'm actually going to step up my game in 2022 and start posting videos again. I'm sort of bad at editing videos and want to get better - but at least I got the point across. It's okay to have terrain sort of be whatever creativity youre feeling and the organic / real look is something not often seen in 40k. Its why people like the Blanchisti style or they like the 3rd edition bright colors and greens. Whatever gets you into the game. Scatter + Trash terrain is also the epitome of fun... painting toys/junk and so on. I recommend you go down an Eric's Hobby Workshop rabbit hole next while youre working on terrain!

Can I ask what you used as a base for your boards, as I'm currently using 9mm ply, with a frame around and filled with polystyrene, but find my board get heavy real quick???
@SteveFamine
@SteveFamine 3 жыл бұрын
MDF they sell at home depot in 2x4 or 4x4 - so I made a frostgrave board here with four 2x2 squads in the same material. Dont use black wash or heavy amounts of PVA to avoid warping and also try and add on sheets of pink foam to reinforce it. imgur.com/gallery/CUp9vSo you can see the tiles here

How do you keep your chipboard/cardboard from warping?!
@SteveFamine
@SteveFamine 3 жыл бұрын
Use less liquid and build the pieces with reinforcement! Okay so I took 2x4 MDF rectangles at 1/4" inch and then I glued down the pink foam chunks I carved out. Then I drill down from the back of the MDF a few thin 1" screws. This squishes the lightly applied glue DOWN. I don't over bond it or use a ton of glue. I may have used 20 screws here. Then later on I use spackle to handle all the slopes and edges of the pink foam so it sort of locks it in place and this hides the pointy screw ends that are popping up. I glue sand with mod podge and try and keep it light. I don't add water or dilute it if I can. The base coat on top is actually a light white rustolum spray. I follow this up by a slightly watery brown paint mixed with mod podge coat on the dirty areas. This entire process avoids pouring PVA glue all over the piece on the table which warps it slightly

Like you have some sorta 40k piece then use the chipboard and foam and stuff I want to know what that base piece is because I know I have seen it and I want to shamelessly steal those walls.

@@xenodraigshrike5052 imgur.com/a/ppX1Ce5 here is what they actually look like and imgur.com/a/M5RMTd3 without paint. It's the wall sections from the Necromunda Gang Stronghold. Don't stop there though - you could 100% Make a one part silicon mold and recast this stump/base piece and create an entire fort effectively. I'll add more to these walls later and build a few more L sections
