Yeah, loading single-shot grenade launchers with buckshot is super common, as grenadiers need to be able to protect themselves at ranges too close for grenades to be effective. They were especially popular with the M70s in Vietnam, as the US/ARVN/ANZAC troops who used them could be ambushed at any time and needed to be able to blow someone apart at very short range.

@@Shamanteng [Warning: Wall of text] Alright, since this game is clearly influenced by Dark Heresy and 40k RPG at large lets break down the numbers of how screwed they are. (Barring heavy weapons or a psyker.) A generic Chaos Space Marine (Only War Profile) is a Toughness 8 29 wound monstrosity behind at bare minimum 8 (10 on torso) points of armor. That is a minimum of 17 damage (ignoring pen) to even knock off a single wound, assuming you even hit him because he has a 55% chance to dodge. The average lasgun does 1d10+3 Pen 0 which means barring skills that increase damage or overcharge means you literally cannot hurt him short of rolling a critical (10) but even then that only does one wound because it didn’t get through his armor and toughness. An overcharge shot (1d10+5 Pen 2) needs that crit. Granted the crit will actually resolve this time but the best result out of this would be a disabled arm, slowed movement and/or a 1 round stun. (Unless you have a skill that can boost that crit higher. Anything 9 or 10 is an instant kill.) Comparatively the average Acolyte Guardsmen (Player) would be toughness 3 or 4 with an armor rating of 4 (If guard flak) or 6 (carapace) with at most 15 wounds (Penal Colony Homeworld.) You’re probably looking at somewhere between a 30%-50% dodge chance at max. If he shoots his bolter at you that’s 1d10+9 Pen 4 which means he goes right through your armor with damage to spare off of a single round hitting you. If he fires semi-auto that’s three shells coming at you. (Assuming he aims that’s a 65% chance to hit without taking range bonuses into account. A d100 roll of 25 or lower means all rounds hit.) You’d have to roll 20 under your agility score (assuming no modifiers) to dodge all three shots. That’s a minimum of 6 wounds (4 if carapace) per shot hitting you. Assuming 15 wounds the Chaos Marine needs to do 24 damage to kill you. (-24 is an automatic 9 on the critical table which will kill you, in spectacularly gory fashion according to the damage tables.) Oh yeah, that bolter is tearing so he gets to roll 2d10 for every round that hits and pick the highest. Alternatively he could just go into melee with a 1d10+14 pen 6 power sword that can hit anywhere from 1 to 5 times. Fun times for the whole family. Keep in mind this is a “generic” chaos space marine. Since this game focuses around Nurgle that could mean plague marines, who are way way worse. Far tougher at 15 toughness with 36 wounds. They also have “Stuff of Nightmares” which makes them ignore most environmental hazards, stunning AND ANY CRIT SHORT OF A 9. They also have "bolter drill" which means they hit those shots way easier. Better hope we get a Sienna Fuegonasus expy with access to molten beam (1d10+17 pen 8 minimum) or some melta guns because outside of the Ogryn our characters are looking a little underequipped.

It's just that the most popular factions in 40K are fucking rediculous, blowing fist sized chunks out of orks means nothing to them, power armor laughs at that shit and eldar can dodge fucking lasers, don't get me started on some of the bigger Nids carapace, but that don't mean the gun itself is wimpy.

But even then, the humble lasgun still has the 4/18 chance (roughly 22%) to eliminate a Space Marine from combat (and we're speaking a superhuman with a state-of-the-art equipment here). Given that it is absolutely baseline, mass-produced weapon one equips fresh grunts with, it is still quite formidable if 5-to-1 ratio sort of evens the field out (at least damage-wise, as you need to hit the target first :).

@@rebel1717 Laguns are far more dangerous than modern guns. Heck they are even more dangerous than the 40K Auto-rifle, which is the 40K equivalent of modern day weapons. However, they are eclipsed by about every other weapon in 40K. Their only saving grace is that they are even cheaper to produce and easier to supply and maintain than Auto-rifles and that is why they are so universal in the Imperial Guard and other factions.

Despite of Darktide's lack of communication, I have full faith and confidence within them. They've already proven on how talented their team is with their previous entry, Vermintide 2, with its beautiful level designs, and absolutely satisfying combat system. According to the steam page the characters appearances will be custom. I'm vaguely assuming the non-ogryn will have gender toggles and some other looks stuff, but the main focus of "appearance" will be on their armour etc, especially with how varied IG styles are. They give me my Kasrkin pattern armour and I'll be happy.
