17:43 the zealot tries dropping an ammo bag from the team while on the elevator....and it vanishes instantly when she puts in down, then she looks around confused for a second before deciding to move on. I assume this is a bug when putting a static object on a moving platform just fails to place it properly, which I've seen come up as bugs A LOT in various games over the years

@@ClubQRoundDeux Yeah, Nork Deddog is considered a genus because he can count to 4, obviously the Ogryn pc cant be completely dumb, for banter reasons, but he still feels just a bit too smart.

I always thought the Nork counting thing was exaggerated. Ogryns aren't the brightest lightbulbs, but they aren't lobotomized (Necromunda Jotunn-class monotask servitors notwithstanding) either. They are always depicted as smart enough to look "stupid" as opposed to simply animalistic.

For anyone wondering why he is charging the handle on a laser rifle, I'll explain my theory behind it. The Mechanicus makes these guns with the idea that the guardsman will do untold sorts of things to them, including shooting themselves. I'm guessing when the button for the power pack is released, it locks the safety to keep the rifle from attempting to fire while there is no charge pack (residual energy could still fire the gun. As it's a thing for capacitors in real life). The guardsman then after slapping in a new charge pack has to unlock it again (doesn't look like he's charging it back but simply pressing down a safety) to continue firing the gun.

@@sinephase My assumption is that they're usually KB+M players but that they ARE using a gamepad here, which is why they look so uncomfortable. Controllers tend to be used for gameplay showcases because the smoother camera movement makes it easier for viewers to track. Also, at a capture event you just use what you're given.

@@loobkoob The person playing looks like they are just uncomfortable playing games regardless. Most PC players have no issue picking up a controller for stuff like Darksouls.

​@@loobkoob The controls onscreen are being displayed as keyboard inputs though. Also, there is nothing smooth about their camera movement at all. Their quick erratic movements are indicative of someone using a mouse with either the wrong sensitivity or someone who's just not used to play FPS games. This is definitely mouse movement. You should be able tell with all their micro adjusting, usually over adjusting and then slightly moving back which is not something controller users can do very quickly like that. There is also variance in the speed at which they move their crosshair. Sometimes it's a quick 180 or 90 degree flick and other times it's a slower movement you can see that at 3:00 minutes in.

So far it looks good with a few sticking points. 1 I don't like the floating ammo icon, just have ammo boxes or something. 2 They characters def need more banter, that really made vermintide feel more special. 3 The level of stamina is frustratingly low. 4 The UI is alright but some options for customization and or scaling would be very appreciated.

Re number 2 of all the gameplay I've seen its def feels a little dry without the banter. Its a little harder since they are letting people create there own characters so there not named. I suspect they went this route as in Vermintide 2 being forced to have 4 different characters in the Squad slowed match making down. The only way around this I could see is unnamed characters or you have 4 named characters per class.

...they say, acting like that phrase wasn't always part of the lore. Just look at any old diagram of how the Imperium is organized and you will read the phrase "Astra Militarum (The Imperial Guard)" in one of the big boxes. While GW officially changed the "real-world" name of the faction to refresh their IP, It's still actually 100% lore-accurate for a guardsman to refer to what he is in Low Gothic instead of the High Gothic name for the organization. Plus what chump would be in the trenches and go "another glorious day in the Astra Militarum," in front of his battle buddies like some kind of high-born, grox-fed noble?

Looks amazing. The attention to detail is top-notch. The Chaos Guardsmen and the pox walkers/zombies look identical to the Blackstone Fortress minis. These guys definitely know their 40K. Two thumbs sky high so far.

Yep, the only time I know that they've gone off-Lore at any point in time is giving the Warrior Priest of Sigmar in vermintide 2 a flail and shield as an option alongside the expected host of hammers. But it's my favorite weapon for WP in V2 so I can't complain much.

That I can tell, the players are an Inquisitors "bad company" pet-project. Members of the cult-mech wouldn't go into the imperial prison system, and wouldn't be under an inquisitors jurisdiction. A *PRIEST* is a big deal too. They'd probably be way above the rank of doing this kind of thing

At the start I didnt get it why the teammates talk this much, but after hear all that noise that can make your head pound from the enemy, it's a blessing they talk about everything, because then I wouldnt know where are the big baddies.

if you haven't played vermintide, yeah, that's how it is. the combat is very chaotic and you can very easily miss special or elite units in crowds of fodder. the characters will usually call out things like "I hear a [special unit]" when one is around, and you can manually ping them to call out their exact location to the team.

Honestly the sound design is what makes Vermintide 2 such a lasting classic. The game tells you EVERYTHING that is happening through sound, either through banter or otherwise. Once you learn the audio cues, you can block attacks from enemies you didn't even know were behind you, because there's a warning sound like half a second before the hit lands.

UI is usually the final aspect of games to be designed on, is simply the way of game development. I expect it'll be very polished near release.

This is a demonstration session where they put game journalists in control. Clearly the guy playing as the Veteran plays a lot of shooters for fun, the others probably play Animal Crossing in their spare time.

For people wondering about health bars, the community has wanted the health bars mod sanctioned for vermintide 2 since the mod released shortly after launch, since the mod author abandoned ship at some point it never was and likely never will be sanctioned. I think since darktide won't have mod support fatshark is trying to implement the features from popular community mods into the game as they did in vermintide 2's most recent update. If that update is anything to go by, the health bars should be able to be toggled on and off, and if they follow the logic of the mod from vermintide, you should be able to have healthbars only for specific enemies. Game looks great though, only things that worry me though are the fact that they purposely slowed down movement speed so that sprinting could exist which is kinda dumb. I'm also worried that dodging, which if you didn't know is one of the most important mechanics from vermintide, was removed. I'm hoping that the people playing have no idea how to play vermintide so they didn't know dodging was a thing and that it's actually still there. I'm also kinda annoyed at sprinting because I rebinded shift to dodge In vermintide since there is no sprinting so

There is definitely dodging, it's just that the people playing didn't really know what they were doing. They also never used push attacks or blocks while in melee combat, and either just spammed light attacks or used their weapon special to take out a single weak horde enemy that would have died in 1 light attack anyways

I feel like they might have trouble with that considering it has character creation and no preset character personalities, theoretically. Definitely can't have names in dialogue, at least. Though it does seem like they're putting a lot of effort into having as much as they realistically can regardless.

@@sana2472 The devs have said that you can pick one of six (three per gender) personalities for each class, so in some way there are "characters" (and even more than in Vermintide, numbers-wise) but yeah, they'll be "less personal" for sure.

banter seems fine to me, too many quips isn't fun anyway. Would much rather make my own characters. wish more games let you make your own tbh so hoping other take note of Darktide in that respect

Still needs some tweaking but I think this looks awesome. It's a small thing, but I love how've they've done the lasgun. Almost as iconic as the bolter in terms of 40k and looks properly lethal here. I see some comments mentioned the UI, personally I think I'd have to play it first before being 100% but it isn't too intrusive for me as is, but allowing people to toggle it on/off would probably help. Other than that, can we get a public BETA?

In terms of UI, they need to reduce the size of the health bars, IMHO. At least to the size of the equipment icons on the right.

UI doesn't look any larger in screen space than vermintide UI, just looks 40k instead. Quite frankly I don't understand most of the complaints I see about the UI or gameplay. Except the fact that the players seemed new to the type of game. It's not like everybody is good at all games, but you kind of expect these journalists to have an interest and therefore inherent experience in games they play........

Good to see the zealot and guardsman getting some attention I wasn't sure about the lasgun at first but now it seems pretty punchy and smashing stuff with the zealot looks great too. I hope the zealot can get blessings or something to buff the team but I like how she calls out prayers/benedictions on the fly anyway.

Yeah, I get why some players are complaining about the lasgun having recoil but like. The issue with that is that guns without recoil tend to feel weak and ineffective (which, fandom jokes aside, lasguns are not--at least against squishy targets like lightly armoured humans). I think this is probably the best way to manage it.

The las-gun of the astra militarum has always been a potent weapon that can rival that of relatively large calibre firearms, that is lore-wise though; the main reason(s) why it has always been down played despite its efficacy, well, because everything that the average human faces in the 40k universe is either too fast, too strong, or a combination of both with a mix mind-torturing horror...

I like how many people wish-list their favorite things from 40k when they don't understand how it doesn't fit with the lore of 40k at all, let alone the backstory and design-direction of Darktide. This game probably takes place across the galaxy from all of your favorite things, and the developers probably set it there on purpose, just so they could be like "too far away from Ultramar, sorry, no Ultramarines," heck, they should probably just surround the sector in warp storms so they can be like "nope, nobody else from the Imperium will be in the game because they can't get there, only the elements that we have deemed to be within the sector at the time of the storms, so that's what's going to be in the game! Thanks for playing!" I can't count how many "I wanna be a Space Marine" comments there are for videos of this game... Like kid, if there were a game about the recruitment to become an Astartes, it would literally be scarier than any survival horror game on the market... *being a Space Marine isn't fun...* it would mean becoming an emotionally-stunted, brainwashed, no-free-time-having, *child-soldier* for like... 500 years of combat, meditation, combat drills, prayers to the emperor, holy boltgun anointing ceremonies, more drills, more battles... Space Marines are *tools,* not people... they do not enjoy the life of a regular Imperial Citizen, they are monastic warrior-knights whose sole-purpose is warfare. Plus, if you want to be a Astartes so bad, go play Space Marine, wait for the retro-fps boomer-shooter "Boltgun", or the upcoming Space Marine sequel, and stop pushing your lore-misunderstood, fantastical headcanon on Darktide. Sorry, had to add in the Astartes rant, had nothing to do with you other than the wish-listing things that will never be in this game because they don't fit the lore or the game's design goals.

@@Walter5850 VT1 & 2 never had health bars except for bosses, any specials or elite mobs wouldn't have numbers and bars pop up over them, it clutters the screen and takes away from the experience.

only few bosses and elites have health bar, I think it’s fine to show you where the high priority targets are since all enemies are basically human size.

They definitely should have the option to turn them off. It kinda ruins the experience knowing how much they can tank without them falling over, plus the healthbar is just kind of a massive eyesore. It was much more satisfying smacking them until you physically saw on their player model them getting bloody and beat up, that being their own healthbar using visual representation rather than a giant red bar.

@@goransekulic3671 graphics and level design was fantastic but the AI and gameplay felt lackluster. The game was based way too much on the board game rather than the left for dead in space it could of been. Obviously my opinion, the game had so mucb care and effort put into it but it was just missing some serious gameplay aspects. Melee was terrible, some guns were fun, no indication of any enemies behind you. I only had around 60 hours so I could be biased.

UI elements in Vermintide are scalable and can be disabled. Some footage of this game doesn't feature health bars or damage numbers, so it's safe to assume we can disable these non-immersive features.

Will the character have multiple classes like in Vermintide? I was just assuming that that is how they'll handle new classes is new characters. Mechancius, a fallen astrates, etc there is tons of unit types they could add.

The main characters you play as in this game are *convicts* that have been recruited by an *Inquisitor.* None of the lore of the game, nor any of the lore of Warhammer 40k, nor the goal of the game designers, nor the balance of the game allow for a Custodian Guard to be in this game... in any capacity. I don't care if Roboute talked to the Emperor who finally let them out to play... it makes 0% sense by any metric.

UI could use some work, and there could be a little bit more back and forth banter, but otherwise looking really good. Combat looks fun and it seems ranged is much more of a focus than in vermintide. I loved the Ogryn dialogue at 6:55 btw. Also, the gore looks fantastic. I'd love more blood painting the walls etc, but I especially appreciated how when a corrupted guardsman got hit on the head with the zealot's hammer, it cracked his helmet open. I also love how if you interrupt a reloading animation after the magazine is in but the weapon hasn't been bolted, instead of starting the whole reload animation again it just continues where you left off.

I've watched several demo sessions, and some of them had health bars and some didn't, so it seems likely there's a toggle like in most RPGs.

@@SouthernGuy5423 yeah, you can resize or disable UI features in Vermintide, so they likely kept that feature. The enemies give good visual feedback and it's easy to know when they're dead, so I personally would disable those UI elements since they break immersion for me almost as much as a lens-flare does in first person view.

Michael Gibson you only have to look at L4D2 to understand that top tier visual feedback does *not* need hit markers and health bars which plague every single game in existence now. If you try playing with no crosshair in dead redemption 2, that game actually has fantastic feedback, but it’s almost completely hidden by the big ugly X when you kill someone.

Luckily, the Devs here are smart enough to realize that a toggle switch to turn health bars off or on combined with good live feedback - which every game should have ANYWAY - satisfies both of us. If your trying to say that a game shouldn't even offer that option, then I can say that your just being silly.

The VERY first thing I noticed was the ammo count. THANK FUCKING CHRIST I can spend the entire time shooting things in a 40k game. I was terrified it would be heavily melee centric like Vermintide with full ranged builds being almost impossible. My hype is immeasurable.

they talked about in their dev blog called "hybrid combat" the gameplay will try to focus around swaping between melee and range. Choosing the right time to use your gun, or sword. Helping a teammate by shooting off some elite thats smashing its face in. That kinda stuff. But from the gameplay so far it looks like you can do a lot more ranged, which I am very happy because I love the Imperial Guard. And man, that lasgun sound sooooo good while looking fun to shoot. I think people that are saying this is just another Vermintide are going to find it is not.

@@nickstevenson5081 IMO vermintide has always had "hybrid combat," they are just doing some marketing and maybe setting expectations for people coming into a game like vermintide. They don't want people getting pissed when they have to maybe use a melee weapon at times in a universe that makes it seem like you should use a gun at all times.

@@perkelenormally2755 I'm pretty satisfied with this gameplay. Main issues are the lack of dialogue between characters, which they might be working on, and the healthbars. My best guess is that the healthbars will either be an option, or tied to difficulty.

@@Exhillious Already seen the yes well done line repeat multiple times in this clip. The bug that seems to stop you from picking up ammo is worrying. Also seemed to bug out on the lift when the player dropped the ammo box. Just hope the banter doesn't go full chaos wastes on us (if there even is any)

Oooh the lasgun recoil looks much better here. It's there, but it's not brutally skewing the aim into the ceiling or the walls. Now it just needs to actually line up with the shots/sounds and we're golden.

I hope that you can mod weapons with combat attachments for more than show. You should be able to bayonet or cleave with the spiky bits on your guns as well.

Good sound design. Weapons sound chunky, good callouts and fun voice lines, the vox transmission effects are good. And it all changes depending on the type of room they're in. Only thing is that on these review videos it seems that the music is turned all the way down. Vermintide music was excellent, so can't wait to hear what's been done for darktide!

Despite how the classes look, I'm personally thrilled about being finally able to have more of one of the same type of class on a match. Personally, I can't wait unti I can go on a full Veteran team to roleplay as a guardsman/Karskin squad doing some "routine purgation" mission, full operatior talk via voicechat.

With this UI and all the icons floating around (also the floating ammo) the game reminds me of something between the Deep Rock Galactics and classic Quake or CS 1.6 There is something unique about Vermintide 2, but Darktide looks more casual for now. That's just the first expression though

Yeah. Something about the deep melee combat in Vermintide and it's style is very satisfying. I like 40k way more than WH Fantasy and I am a VT2 vet so Darktide should appeal to me but for some reason it looks a lot less appealing than VT2. The rooms all kinda look the same, the enemies look kinda the same. It feels like they took a big chunk of the unique game formula of VT and turned that into "you shoot stuff like in all the other shooters". I'll definitely play it but something tells me it won't be '4k hours playtime material' like VT, for me.

Gameplay is fine but I hope there'll be a way to hide all these bars or a mod cause I like a clean UI edit: health bars over enemies..not sure why that has to be a thing, VT only needed it for obvious bosses but not for trash mobs, can't imagine that being optimal during a horde.

I absolutely love the voice acting! I enjoyed especially skyv and the guardsman. Titus has some low key Zane vibes from borderlands haha - the zealot kinda lacked personality but im sure the other voices for him/her are better (hopefully)

Might be a literal charging handle ;) My fantasy sci-fi explanation would be either it's there to expose some delicate part of the charging apparatus that usually closes when the lower receiver is empty, or it's a hold over that is functionally useless save for "appeasing the machine spirit."

The ogryn seems to be a bit of a problem imo. It is so big that every time it crosses your line of fire it is as if they put a wardrobe in front of you.

To be fair he is meant to be the tank class, that size goes both ways, he has a bigger frame to soak up damage that don't hit you.

actually there will be the option to be 4 of one class during the gameplay, per example 4 ogryn or 4 guardsmen.

Looks awesome so far. Sounds are great and the voice acting is awesome as well. Skyv can call me simpleton all day. I just wonder how it will be if a whole squad picks the same class

There are different voices/personalities for each class and gender. So banter shouldnt be too repetitive unless you all got the same voice

I loved the gameplay. But for me the chainsword felt more like a baseball bat than an actual chainsword and i really want to know, is the lasgun automatic (full auto) or semi auto? Because clicking 55 times per magazine just seems a bad ideia...

Probably are different versions of it I'd guess. More high powered semi auto, and probably a full auto one maybe? Also, it's pretty hard to do a chainsword in a game where you have stuff swarming you. Every animation can't be this long ripping animation or you'd get overwhelmed. I think them putting that on the power attack to still get that feeling/animation and just having smaller revs on the quick attack is a good medium. I do agree that the quick attacks still feel as you described, but that's kinda what you get.

@@jamescollins1124 i think that if you hold down the attack button you can power the melee weapon and if you press it again it releases the charged attack, or maybe you can hold the button to power and when you release it uses the attack already charged, that would make sense.

Not a fan of the enemy health bars but big fan overall so far! Just a few little things that need ironing out and maybe have more interaction in the voice lines and wow I'm gonna be happy!

@@Hauwke764 There were TONS of options like that in Vermintide, I am guessing you will be able to disable hud elements, change its size, stuff like that isnt super hard to add in.

its strange that they added the health bars and damage numbers, I even asked a dev why they didnt approve the healthbar mod and damage numbers mod in vermintide so i could test builds without switching to modded realm, they said that there philosphy wasnt to have that so people could just focus on having fun and be immersed in the game

@@Ripthejack3r I mean, damage numbers are built into vermintide 2 already, they just only apply to the training dummies in the keep. I figure this is one of those HUD elements that will be optional, and it's easier for testing to keep on, ya know?

Looks bloody good! Don't know whether I'll have money to run it properly and, yes, that bothers me. Even if I shouldn't worry about a single game. I don't see any chemistry or anything of the kind so far. All I get is "these are the steps, lumberfoots". But in a 100% less ridiculous tone, so...eh. edit: Titus = Kruber VA or ... ?

Nope. The Mechanicus does not answer to Imperial laws; a techpriest answers to the laws of the Mechanicus, and would never be found in an Imperial prison. There would have to be a major reason and in-universe lore explanation as to why the Mechanicus would be interested in a daemonic incursion. While everything about this game seems beneath the mechanicus, it would still be cool to get that DLC in the future, I agree.

Everything looks incredible small hitches and all. I’m just missing those pious and hyperbolic eulogies and thematic dialogue per character. As Kruber would refer to things from the perspective of a human Empire soldier or Bretonnian and their gods. I’d hope to hear more of that say the Psycker speaking of the warp, how it blesses them with power to fight and die. The zealot needs to be shouting about their gods and the strength of their faith provided the ability to fight on. “You think pain will stop me?!” “The crime is your foul existence, the sentence is Death!”, even the characterized personality in marking ammo and equipment.

@@ourcommonancestry6025 true ! I don’t say that with any negative intentions. I have high hopes and already preordered the game lol. From the gameplay I’ve seen so far I haven’t seen the same depth of dialogue compared to Vermintide 2. I’m not saying it won’t be there. I’m very hopeful that it is and will be better! consider though, what is 75k lines spread across 4 characters with multiple voice profiles? some of those 75k voice lines might be 6 for one voice profile each to say “ammo here” instead of something more. I hope that makes sense? Like imagine 6 voice profiles of the guardsmen (3male 3 women) saying “ammo… grab some ammo… fill your ammo…” instead of “this ammo will fuel my fury to strike down these blasphemous heretics” “ gather round simpletons, don’t make me learn you how to shoot these chaos swarm”
