Blue skies, green grass, being a peasant growing crops...in a universe of demons and acid spitting aliens and megacities where the slightest infraction gets you tortured then lobotomized then your mind-wiped corpse turned into a menial servant that may also be used as fodder for said acid spitting alien demon wars... ...being a peasant in an unimportant backwater, by comparison, doesn't sound so bad. And if you ARE one of the warriors on your planet, you might be a Knight or Squire, meaning if you do go to battle, you do it in a titanic mech the size of a small or medium sized building. :D

Old lore definitely, not so sure about the bullshit running around now. Although if they play out the Ghazghul hunting down Angron story line, which I'm still not entirely certain they did that on purpose, I still think GW just felt like killing ole bale eye and Angron was the most logical choice. If they play that story line to it's conclusion with a massive WAAAGH! heading into the eye of terror, they could regain a lot of fan good will.

Warp Travel can take months/years. Planetfall can take days after translating from the warp. Interstellar travel from from sector to sector can take months/years. They generally receive requests for assistance with way too much time left on their hands to ponder/practice/bless-decorate wargear/pray/meditate/etc. Everything they use and wield is considered a legendary and priceless piece of equipment so they take painstaking effort to do everything with deliberation, care and an annoying amount of reverence.

Space Marine, Space Marine II, Inquisitor Martyr, Darktide, Dawn of War (2&3), Battlefleet Gothic (1&2), Pariah Nexus and a few other cinematics all clipped together. Probably some others I missed. There's quite a few cinematics out there for Warhammer 40k. There's a couple of other cinematics out there made by fans that are pretty fantastic as well. "Lord Inquisitor" was one of the titles. As well one made called "Astartes" that was a fantastic presentation. Not to mention the Ultramarines movie that lacked some quality, but was still a very good watch for what it was.

As for the second part of your question a combination of the suit and specialized glands break down everything they consume. They have an acidic gland that they can belch forth as a weapon so it stands to reason nothing that goes in can't be broken down to it's most basic of essence. As well they mostly intake pure nutrients so there is little waste if any. After ascending from an aspirant to a scout and scout to a battle brother they spend very little time outside of the sealed suits. Much of the time spent out of the suits are in suspended animation as they are carted from battlefield to battlefield in long warp/space travels. The only instances of them consuming anything not specifically meant for pure survival I can recall are flesh-tearers, minotaurs, blood angels and space wolves eating the flesh of their enemies (and gaining knowledge of the fallen foes) or strong alcohol (in revelry with space wolves viking-esque appeal). TLDR: They don't shit much if at all. Not much is said of their life when it doesn't pertain to stabby stabby shooty shooty. If they poop at all it's glorious poop and it should be worshipped.
