Yeah, but combat patrols seem kind of intro points for collecting minis, and then this way of buying them kind of sucks. I mean, if two people want to get into the hobby and friend 1 wants to get space marines then he's fine, but he's gonna have to wait months until friend 2 gets his combat patrol, especially if that person wants one of the later factions. So it's very likely that one person is just gonna sit on a fully built army before his friend even gets a single model. This only really works if you have several friends that already have models, and play one of these factions, and haven't already bought the combat patrols.

From a hobbying perspective, getting a slow trickle of new minis to try and complete before the next delivery sounds entertaining. BUT when I thought about the fact you can get 2 complete 2000point armies for the price of the magazine run, I kind of decided it's not a great idea. Choose your 2 favorite factions and spend £40 a month, and you'll end up much happier by the end of 80 weeks.

Yeah I agree 100% You get a lot of plastic in this collection but for most part it is going to be things you didn't really want in the first place. Getting two full armies that are playable and more or less complete is much more worthwhile and much more enjoyable.

Imperium shipping was like $7 per monthly set in the US. And they charge you $10 per binder that comes out every several months that you can't request to skip.

@nukem8128 that is a GREAT point. I hope people don't forget about taxes and potential other fees. I live in CAN and was being charged +$67 per month for Imperium and a $6.95 shipping charge all of which were in USD (so at the mercy of exchange rates and provincial/federal taxes). So what started out as a few bucks an issue for the premium subscription quickly went up to approx $115 CAD a month which is fine if you've planned for it. I can only imagine what the Aussies and Kiwi's are subjected to as they seem to have it worst of all.

People who subcribed to Warhammer 40.000: Conquest/Imperium: UK and USA: We have to pay the delivery costs!😭😭😭 Germany: You guys having to pay for delivery?🧐 Jokes aside, the germans really didn't paid for the delivery for those Magazines, because in the Description stands that delivery is free to Germany. Only Austrian, Swiss and Luxembourg had just to pay 0,50 €, according to the upcoming Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Stormbringer, which starts on the 10th of January 2024. Also i know you guys got your delivery for 4 Issues. In Germany (as i experienced) we started with 3 Issues in the first Delivery, 4 in the second and for the rest of the run with 6 Issues (though we must wait 6 weeks for it). Except for the last one, which contain 7 Issues for Conquest and 5 for Imperium, due to the extended run from 80 to 90 Issues. So you have my condolences!

I think if you looked at it differently, if you spent £40 - 50 a month, at 3rd party retailers, on specific models you want for a faction or two factions, whilst looking at like xmas boxes or starter kits as well, then over 18 months you'd have two very nice armies of stuff you want. I kind of feel by going for NINE factions this will put a lot of people off.

Yes, but if you want a variety of small armies or have a group of friends who want different armies then this would be great to boost your armies. This is for new players to get them into the game casually not people who are going to buy specific units from the start.

I did almost a full run of imperium and included the binders and premium sets. I think it was a pretty decent deal. Anything you dont want or need you can resell. I liked the factions bettwr for Imperium. But this doesnt look bad either.

I can’t vouch much for Eldar since I don’t play it, but I love CSM, especially how you can play it any way you like, play Iron Warriors and focus on the Machines, Word Bearers if you want to mix up with Demons, Night Lords and Alpha Legion for each of their specific funny brand of opponent mind fuckery, or Black Legion if you wanna be the Ultramarines of Chaos.

As a full time commission painter I would advise to just go for the commissions. Working with clients (with strange requests) is quite a different experience then practicing for yourself. Also, selling every model you paint is not for everyone, it ruins the "hobby" feel quite bit. Quite a few people give commissions a try and then release they actually don't want their hobby to become a job. That's all valuable experience that this kind of project won't give you, in addition to this costing money and not making you any!

Having a ton of half-armies and major variety is exactly what I want out of the hobby. The ability to hand a friend an entire combat patrol and let people learn to play a new faction, or even the entire game is like being able to share joy with someone.

Surely the fact that many of these combat patrols are likely to be changed by GW over the course of this magazine is something to consider. Orks codex are released in spring and if following GW current trend you may be getting an old combat patrol (which tbf could be better given how they have updated the admech and necrons). Something to consider regardless!

That said if you look in the new White Dwarf they just added the old Vanguard Marines set as an additional Combat Patrol - so the old combat patrol minus the Impulsor. If that's indicative of their direction going forward chances are they'll be adding more stuff to combat patrol mode rather than removing or replacing things. Although the actual combat patrol kits themselves might get replaced over time.

This idea 💡 is absolutely perfect for me. Decided to retire early in January at 55, although I have many things to do in my hopefully 🤞 long retirement I have always wanted to get into GW but held back due to work constraints and the inevitable wrath from my wife towards my dust ridden pile of shame 😡 collection. I have just invested in the starter set and paints so although I understand I wouldn’t need the SM and Tyranids kits from these I will be subscribing to the full package due to getting all the painting instructions, rules etc plus the extra goodies so I can spend some time using my current purchase to practise on and get some experience and then when all the CP have arrived I can then progress on armies I want to build up e.g. Orks (after all who doesn’t love 🥰 an Ork) 😃 As I say perfect for me but I can see that probably a large percentage of collectors it probably has limited appeal but as the saying goes you can’t please all of the people all of the time. Roll on Q4 2024 👍🏻

TBH doubling up on most of the Space marine and Tyranid kits from the starter set wouldnt be a huge problem anyway. The characters you likely wont need multiples of but you can always ebay those or have a stab at converting them

Something to take into account is the combat patrol mod : small armies with custom rules to balance them. GW might be trying to push more people toward it. The extra miniature are here to tempt us toward 1000 points armies, because patrol+1/2 model isn't really playable on its own. From my personnal point of view, what I prefer is dipping into factions lore while painting them, more than having a horde of a less limited number of factions, so I might go for it.

I played Patrouille for several months. The rules are unbalanced and it got boring in the end ! And you want to play in 1000 points and more. But the new V10 patrols are average or bad for a good base :(

Yeah. It's a much better idea to just pick a couple combat patrols you're interested in, get them from a discount retailer, and pay like 250 dollars instead of 1200. I have no idea who this is marketed to. Beginners won't want to dive THIS deep into the hobby to begin with. Veterans won't want the paints/brushes, or the models that don't go with their current army. If you want to collect a NEW army there's no reason why you'd want to start 7 at once.

Yeh kind of agree, can't ever seeing myself wanting all these factions, like there are a few other factions I might want to start at some point as an addition to my main army but what do I do with all the rest? Maybe sell them online I suppose but no guarantee you'll get good value. I think for people who wanted to start a 2nd or 3rd army, like you say much better to pick up a combat patrol or xmas box or whatever for that faction from a 3rd party retailer, add a couple of other kits on top and you can probably get a 1k army on the table for £150 or something. Plus I'd imagine a lot of people are like me, where their main army would get a lot of duplicate kits, I am pretty sure I have all if not most of those SM models.

You missed that if you read the terms and conditions, every now and then (every 15 issues or so) they also send you extra Binders and divider pages and charge you £10.99 for that on top so reduces the savings even further

I did a video on Stormbringer. In there, I detail how the ORDER things are done in is a huge influence on it. Are the Patrols done in order? Are they broken into pieces? Do they stack a ton of the best goodies in the first few issues? Stormbringer's opening issues are pretty stacked, with a Krondys at just box 5 waiting for those who buy Premium. By issue 18, you have the entirely of the Mid-range Sigmar starter, the Generals from the small Starter, a heavy unit for each army, a pair of Underworlds Warbands, rare Underworlds terrain, 10 paints, the brushes, nippers, and glue to assemble it all...and Krondys. For about $250? I mean, then you can go ahead and bail, you've made out like a bandit.

The lists are actually pretty solid for 1k if you get the premium sub edition. Orks only need mozrog or maybe a battle wagon and meganobs to hit 1k. The space marines need a bit more but the vanguard detachment letting you make either a terminator character or the bike Chaplin a lone operative is big for flexibility. It’ll either be a fast bike or a deep striker. Getting more terminators is the easiest pick but outriders could work (especially if you have a 9th edition elite half lying around or at your locals). The csm and world eaters halfs work fabulous together. You can make a 1k list out of either box with the three shared models. GSC with the guard as brood brothers has so many options to hit 1k it’s not even funny. Aeldari and guard need the most help but are pretty easy to get to 750 with one more cheep kit each. League’s pretty desperate for some vehicles and maybe grimnyr. Tyranids is easy just get genestealers to run with the brood lord from the GSC half.

One thing I will warn people about as someone who subscribed to the first run of this 40k magazine. There is other things that they don't tell about until the month before, which they will charge you for, on a sort of 'opt out' method of business. These can be upwards of £15 pounds added on top of your order. Examples of things I got. A silver templars painting box (which was actually really cool. Ring binder guide, 5 intercessors. 1 lieutenant who you couldn't buy at the time. And about 10 paints) Silver templars novel Silver templars codex So just bare this in mind as the cost could end up being upwards of an extra £100+ on your subscription by the end.

The raw discount is impressive, but I probably have no use for over half of them - either because I already own one (or more) or because I have no interest in that army. This would be a great deal if you & some friends could divvy up the minis & split the costs.

As an adult with a fairly limited amount of free time I don't think these subscriptions are worth it, but with the time to delve into reading each magazine and keep up to date with painting the models you get I think this would be fantastic. I got the Conquest subscription when it came out in Australia and it was way too much each month so it just ended up in a box that I pulled out individual ones occasionally and mostly ignored the magazines. From what I read of the magazines they would have been the kind of thing that would definitely add to the experience for someone new who has the time, and would add to the value. They had a gentle introduction to the game, a decent amount of lore, and (fairly basic but easy for a beginner to follow) painting instructions. My experience with their chat support was frustrating, but their phone support was pretty great. So if you go for this and need to contact support (which wouldn't be unexpected for them) I'd recommend you go by phone if possible.

£787 v £1215 is a definite good discount, but it really does depend entirely on wanting everything in the set, in the order they come in the magazine, over the timespan of the sub. Splitting with someone else would decrease that likelihood of "waste", for sure, but it means that you're not "getting something every week" which is part of the attraction of this kind of thing. But too scattergun for me, and not enough value in terms of what i want - there's a lot in there i'd just never buy and i don't have the patience for reselling. I'll just stick to buying the things i actually want.

I’m gonna be getting this for two reasons, the second being more so why overall. 1. Many miniatures I want / would love to add to my collection as a newer player or use them for bits / onsell what I don’t need. 2. For my friends, I don’t think a lot of people put this together but if you have many warhammer friends it’s pretty nice being able to help expand their armies, or getting them some units for cheaper than normal. The marines can go to a friend, the votann and orks to another, the astra militatrum to another. Tyranids to myself. The others can be used in between for various stuff/getting new friends into the hobby who might wanna try it.

One of the things I do like about the magazines, is the content within. Like, cheap models, paints etc is great. But having rules, scenarios, narratives, painting guides is really good. Especially for me being a new player. Just started stormbringers (Australia is just starting theirs). I prefer small armies combat stuff, started with killteam, and enjoying that very much. One day, I wish for a bloodbowl magazine, for teams, stadium, and star players.

I'm tempted. My main army has everything I really need already. I've got two part finished armies from when I collected 20 years ago that need bulking out. This means I'll make good use of three of the combat patrols. The other 6 combat patrols should give me something fun to build and paint that I can try out in smaller games.

On a Swiss point of view this is a very good magazine. Here the combat patrols are between 124 and 119 chf (~115 and 111 £) in retail (no official shop in switzerland). And I dont mention the transport and custom taxes if you bought abroad. If you add the premium side, its even better. One over note you mention that its quite unusuall to have many patrol boxes, but if you see it in the perspectives of a new player, he has the possibility of various gameplays with him and a friend. Dont forget that with the combat patrol rule set you have directly the possibility to play in opposition to the conquest or imperium magazine point wise. And with some ok ish starting hobby tools on top of it. For an more veteran player this is also a good opoortunity for some hooby projects and add some variaty in your collection but sure its less interessting. What you also dont have to look is that some have already the imperium and or the conquest. So its an opportunity to expend your space marine collection too. (I count the SM part here as this total of the patrol boxes are ~66% so a 9th of this is what you pay for 787:3:9=£58 GW price ~£116:2=£58 (no saving here). Imperium magazine SM represent aprox 1/4 of the total price so $701,22:4=£175,31 GW price ~£319.55. Conquest £629.20:3=£209.73 GW price ~£348.50)

As someone into 3d printing and subscribing to various patreons this is an interesting alternative. There's an appeal of getting a few miniatures and a booklet to go with it each week but as I live in Canada I think the price is just going to be a little too high even when factoring in discounts. It seems like it might be a cool way to get a friend or family member into the hobby. The weekly model might also be a good way to keep someone's hobby going. I could also see a club or group going in on it together.

I’m just wondering how this works specifically. Maybe I’ve missed it but how does the subscription work? Is it a lock in type thing like a gym subscription. If I subscribe am I locked in to 10$ a week for the whole year? Or can you go per issue? (Like if I wanted just Orks for example could I just pick up a subscription during the orc month and then cancel?) (I doubt it) Do you typically know what’s coming next issue? That way if you’re off board it can give you a reason to jump in midway for the faction you want. I’m sort of interested in it because it has units I was eyeing for factions I enjoy and I wouldn’t mind the slow burn of the magazines to pace it/the discount.

I'm a complete beginner and I'm kind of looking forward to it but the cost is a lot. I'm more interested in the painting and building side than the battling but that's because I know nothing. I believe they will update the offering later as it says the premium sets are issue 15, 33 , 51 and 69 which leaves 20 mags with no premium price potentially or a 5th premium. I thought that I might stop the sub after the first premium set as I believe it may give the space marines and tyranid combat patrols.

Fauxhammer's website usually shows either the full contents (in the case of Stormbringer) or with Imperium he got a preview of the next 4 issues every month so you could see what was coming up when.

I feel like the video kind of neglects the value for painters, hyper focussing on a single faction for an extended period of time really limits your ability to paint well. Someone who paints nothing but space marines might be great at flat armour, but fall apart painting flesh. Having an array of random discounted kits turn up at your door each month makes for absolutely fantastic practice. Not to mention citadel paints and tools, while overpriced normally, are still good quality and worth using, random paints may push you to work in colours you normally don't bother with too. Personally, I think the value here is insane for anyone who wants to broaden their ability to paint well.

Seeing and buying Warhammer Imperium at the newsagent got me interested in gaming again. I'm looking forward to this new Combat Patrol, unfortunately here in Australia they didn't offer the Premium subscription for Imperium and I suspect they will do it again. Honestly, I would have like to have seen them offer Kill Team instead, still get some of the Space Marines and regular 40k armies, but some of the more unique factions like Arbites and Kroot.

I like it, but thats mainly because i enjoy the fun factor. Plus you can always sell on those kits you dont really want to keep, including any of the more premium ones that can bring the cost down.

I was seriously considering picking up the AoS magazine and convincing a friend to split it with me. I like Stormcast, but there were too many model kits that I wasn't interested in. The Sylvaneth kits are pretty great, but they come in muuuuuuch later issues. Going with the combat patrols seems like a better idea from GW's side. But even then as a customer, it only makes sense if you are interested in those specific factions.

There's 90 issues at E17.50 for premium is 1575 /9 factions = 175 euro for a combat patrol and a bonus unit for 8 of the factions (CSM and WE share a demon prince) + brushes and paints

Sounds tempting as I like the sound of a few combat patrols, to play that format, and somewhat regret missing out on the previous mags, but 9 is a lot and I've only recently assembled a couple of things from leviathan and still have an untouched DW cp and LI starter, so likely a Malthusian shamenami. It's a lot of money, overall, too... money that could go to an airbrush, some titans, codexes and new box sets for current 40k armies, food and bills, ...

Hows this then. I already have the Nid half of Leviathan (split with a friend) and the Onslaught box. I'm interested in the World Eaters patrol and particularly that Daemom Prince. If it lines up that the 2nd batch of mags (volumes 21 -40) contain the Eaters patrol - could I pay for a premium sub for ONLY the 2nd block and would it be worth it? Largely think its a no, but another armies patrol for cheaper will let me try a new army??

You touched on a number of motivating factors that will vary from person to person. So, ultimately there's PERCEIVED levels value in this sort of product. For me, none. I don't want all the paints and tools, nor do I want a gagillion miniatures from factions I don't collect. I'd be better off buying a couple of the combat patrols instead. Thorough breakdown in the however, and that is appreciated.

I am a little confused now about how this releases, if say I wanted the World Eaters section and the Demon Prince would I be able to sub early in the run when the Demon Prince goes and be able to tick a box or something for World Eaters aswell or would I have to sub for a period to get the Demon Prince than cancel my sub to later sub again to get the World Eaters section?

Honestly I don't collect like most 40k players and I like having units from each faction rather than focusing on whole armies as I find it more fun swapping up the style of unit I'm painting now and then instead of doing all one faction in one go. So getting all the combat patrols like this is actually great for me, and will help me get a start on designing paint themes for each faction before I start looking to buy a full army worth like I did with the Necrons I got in the last magazine they did

I'm definitely getting the Premium sub once it hits the US. For the price of one full-price kit a month, I get 1-3 kits from this. Especially notable since the discount retailers in the US aren't nearly as prevalent or generous as they seem to be in the UK. Besides, I already collect 5 of these armies, and I can either resell the other 4 or kitbash or repurpose them. Model overload? Certainly, I haven't even finished building and painting all my models from Imperium, but it's fun and I'll never want for options now.

for someone who is just messing with combat patrol atm, this is pretty nice, can sell off the patrols I have and the extra models to offset the cost. Least I would say that, but if the previous imperium magazines were anything to go by, these will be late to launch in aus and ridiculously short supply, dont think i know anyone who has the previous sub that didn't end up in a situaion where their issues didn't arrive simply because they repeatedly didnt/undershipped.

If they released specific factions and just did an issue run for each faction everyone would get it probably also pay for exclusives/premiums and extras. Because it's jack of all trades and factions, only some will be up for it. Kinda wish they went for specific factions one at a time over the next year or two. Would sell way more copies imo.

On the one hand, there's the shipping costs, which I think end up being somewhere around half of the discount you get compared to discount retailers, so that lowers the value. On the other hand, it IS a magazine, and you get some fun, if cheap, booklets to flip through every month. That adds some value.

Also, don't forget that GW has been releasing new combat patrols with every 10th E Codex release. Meaning if a Codex comes out before you get your CP it won't be the most recent one.

Solid review still think its funny still have 3 more issue coming from imperium magazine they have had supply issue. The AOS from the start has been solid and on time. Not sure if the patrol will be worth it unless your trying to play a little of everything

Games Workshop ought to send you a few bucks because this video convinced me that I ought to get this. I'm pretty new to the hobby and I've been having fun dipping my toe into a lot of different factions, I'm mostly just having fun painting! But if I end up with 9 playable combat patrols at the end, then that means I might be able to set up 72 different matchups (Realistically I doubt I'd do every single combination though!) I ran all my own calculations and found that, with the Premium sub, even when compared against the 15% discount one can easily find at the FLGS you can still net an extra 25% discount on the minis. This isn't even counting the cost of the paints and extras, so those are basically thrown in for free. It's got a good value, I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it for someone who already owns several combat patrol boxes. Im guessing you could easily real to break even on cost, doubtful about turning a net profit though, as single mags hitting the market around the same time will drop the take value.

Hypothetical but based on recent trend, GW are likely to increase their prices before or not far into this subscription, so it might turn out to be better value. That happened with Imperium.
