Sabatian Yarrick (the dude with the augmetic eye) is a regular human. He is a commissar (commissars are political officers technically outside the chain of command. His job is to inspire and maintain discipline within the imperial guard).
@scottschofield5000
@scottschofield5000 16 күн бұрын
Cool little lore egg: as shown, Yarrick defeated a War Boss Ork in single combat, something that should be impossible for a regular human. This shocked and kind of terrified the Orks and triggered their weird superpower: A group gestalt that can actually manifest seemingly stupid beliefs as a reality. Meaning, as long as enough Orks believe in something it actually makes it true. They paint their ships and vehicles red because they believe it makes them faster, so it actually does. They think the color purple makes them invisible, so their recon commandos paint themselves purple, and it works. The imperium has captured Ork weaponry for examination and found that it, according the laws of mechanics, should not work, and they can't get it to work, but when they give it to an Ork, it works. It is theorized the same thing has happened to Yarrick, he has lived way longer than a human should and it is theorized that the Orks having seen him beat their Ork Boss, think he's immortal, so, he may actually be.

The skull is a servo skull, one type of servitor. Servitors are lobotomized humans converted into half human half machines. Servo skulls are usually serfs converted to allow them to continue to serve, other servitors it's usually a criminal. Because it's 40K it doesn't take much to be counted as criminal and the life of a servitor is terrible, sometime they retain consciousness living in a weird mind prison unable to die.

So happy to be watching this again with you! Seems as though High Marshal Helbrecht was chosen to command the orbital defenses because the Black Templars are a fleet based chapter, but he left Grimaldus’s squad behind to defend the hive city of Helsreach. Approaching is the largest Ork fleet ever seen by the Imperium, and Grimaldus desires to fight alongside the rest of his Chapter in orbit when the Green Tide breaks against them. Lot of bloody history, but one thing unknown to the Imperium is, in a cosmic twist of fate, Armageddon is actually the ancient Ork homeworld of Ullanor. They are drawn to it.

Not sure info re Ullanor is correct. Orks were created much earlier in the timeline, millions of years ago during the War in Heaven. The Krorks were a soldier race creation of that war, just like the Eldar. I don't think they ever had a homeworld as such, and even if they did the knowledge is long lost to history. Ullanor *is* conceptually linked to orks, but it's because that's where the Imperium had possibly the biggest military parade in all space and time. The Triumph at Ullanor, celebrating the conclusion of the Ullanor Crusade against the orks in the late 30k setting. After Ullanor was when the Emperor left the Great Crusade and returned to Terra to work on the Golden Throne project.

Love how receptive and enthusiastic you are watching this. I see you’re a note-taker as well. Here’s a great list for your reference, because it can be very confusing telling them apart. Squad Grimaldus: GRIMALDUS - Reclusiarch. skull helm. ARTARION - Banner bearer. standard helm. Slurry raspy voice, because his jaw was blown off and replaced with a mechanical jaw. PRIAMUS - "Blademaster" standard helm. Youngest astartes among them. He's the one always carrying the power sword (not a chainsword). NEROVAR (usually just NERO) - Apothecary. White armor, standard helm with optics. CADOR - Veteran brother at least 300 years old. Helm has angled slits in his faceplate. BASTILAN - Sergeant. Beakie helm. Other Black Templars: HIGH MARSHAL HELBRECHT - (no helm) Chapter Master & overall commander of the fleet protecting Armageddon. BAYARD - Emperor's Champion. Carries the "Black Sword", the most sacred blade of the Black Templars. Knightly helm (although he is wearing a standard helm in his first appearance) JURISIAN - TechMarine. Long robotic arms on his back. Standard helm with optics. Deep slow voice.

@@TheRealCenturionYou’re welcome sir! The better you understand, the better you enjoy, the more we’ll enjoy watching ;) And you already understand so much for someone brand new to 40k, like the demigod reverence the Imperial Guard has for the Astartes. New people will usually just equate Space Marines to the Stormtroopers in Star Wars. No. in 40k, every Space Marine is a literal grandson of the God Emperor. A fabled Angel of Death on your side. The guardsmen of the Astra Militarum are the stormtroopers. Hah I just remembered there’s even a moment when Grimaldus calls one of them that!

The battle between orks and guard happened previously. There were 3 (if i remember correctly) wars of Armageddon. First one is classified and almost no one knows about it (it's a whole thing about higher-ups restriciting any info about chaos and daemons). Second was against orks (it's official number is 1) and this war is shown with glimpses and scenes where commissar Yarrik takes ork Nob 1v1. Grimaldus and black templars (and many other forces and astartes chapters) take part in the third war. Armageddon was previously known as Ullanor. Here was the heart of ork Empire. The Emperor was almost killed here and saved by Horus. Also, here The Emperor gave Horus the title of Warmaster and departed to Terra to work on the Webway project in secret. After some time Ullanor was lost in the warp (I dont remember why) and then appeared in a very dangerous segmentum. After Imperium found it again, they renamed it to Armageddon. Its is basically a very strategically important planet. Home to some serious production and a hub for many trade routes

Scene in the drop pod was not a memory but a vision of Grimaldus. He has a sence of unease coming from within his mind and soul. He feels like threat that is coming to an Armageddon is too great and though he still will fight, it seems hopeless. It is also due to him losing his master, previous chaplain of the Eternal Crusade. He's basically unsure about everything

A little context: the Hive world of Armageddon has been subjected to several distinct wars, rather than one very long war. The 1st Armageddon War was in 441.M41, against Chaos, not relevant to this story. The 2nd Armageddon War was in 941.M41, when a Waaagh under Warboss Ghazghkull Thraka invaded. This is the '57 years ago' flashback scene with Commissar Yarrick dueling an ork boss and taking its powerclaw to replace his own lost arm, a legendary scene in 40k lore. Helsreach takes place during the 3rd Armageddon War, 998.M41, when Ghazghkull returns with a far bigger Waaagh and re-invades. Commissar Yarrick is still around, he's the very old guy with the wheezy voice at the briefing. He's in overall command of the planet's defence.

@@TheRealCenturionits cool to notice it. But it may or may not be intended initially. The creator Richard was an amateur user of SFM (software used for animation) at the time. He is more of writer/director and not really professional animator unlike Syama(astartes guy). So he learned animation over time while releasing this animation chapter by chapter and you can see his improvements. One of us fans noticed it and proposed the above idea and we liked it very much, including Richard and we just went with the idea for explanation of the art style.

Hey, glad to see you're checking this out. Another tangentially related recommendation would be AFanWithTooMuchTime's fanfic/audiodrama, Star Wars vs 40k. It's a very well done and thought out series that's a ton of fun and doesn't require much information on either universe that isn't covered by the narrative or bonus episodes diving into the lore of the story and his thought process about how the two universes interact. Even if you don't react to it, it's a fun watch/listen Also, The Awakening is another fantastic animation featuring many 40k KZbinrs as voice actors of the marines and focusing on the Dark Angels and Necrons. Great stuff There's historical precedent for striking or drawing blood from a knight as part of their ceremony of oath as a fun fact. Yeah, the storytelling in this animation can be a little scattered or rushed, but they had to stuff a pretty packed 400pg book into a two hour movie, so i think it's still a fine adaptation and they hit a lot of the key notes while leaving tons to be explored if you want to dive into the book.

@TheRealCenturion Yarrick has some auguments for lost parts of the body +some "tactical" upgrades, but 90% of his body is regular human.. 90% cuz he lost a limb to an orc Boss (highest orc in command, biggest and the strongest one), and took this Boss's mechanical claw arm as a trophy and connected to himself. Most emperials would be considered "heretics" for using xenos tech, but as there was no other replacements, and Yarrick did it himself +his rank and proven devotion to the cause (aka commissar that fights in the first rows in the trenches with others), he is considered the greatest ones. After he got the claw hand, orcs started to consider him the strongest human, and the enemy number 1- even orcs respect him, and let him go once.. cuz orc want nothing but a good fight, and this tiny human was always offering them the best fights, better than space marines even. At some point Yarrick becomes a bit insane and rides on top of the tank standing, literally commanding the tank to pull closer to the orcs so he can kill them from the tank as it's his horse. Also he knows orc language (learned it lol) and has best knowledge of their culture and strategy. So yeah.. Yarrick is one of the kind, very special man, with God like resolve, unbowed will, etc, etc. He is Him among the guard.
@pub1
@pub1 16 күн бұрын
@@TheRealCenturionin addition to the above, there is another theory as to his long life and ability to survive. As has been said, the Orks have lost to him many times and so he gained a reputation with the orks for being unkillable. And orks also have the psychic powers of belief. So if enough orks believe that he can't be killed by them, then that means he can't die by wounds caused by them... and so he doesn't. Whether true or not, who knows. But I like the idea that the orks were subconsciously keeping their favourite "Umie" alive the whole time, which allowed him to keep beating them 😂

Yarrick is loved by the Orks too. He always gave them a good scrap. One time they captured him after a battle. He was tortured for a few weeks and then taken to the War Boss. I don't think this is all hand drawn. Having rendered a few things myself i can tell you there are optional "art style" overlays for rendering. edit: Calling a hive a city is like saying an ant is almost an elephant. The typical hive has between 1 and 15 billion citizens. And a hive world like Armageddon holds several hives. meagain: Commissar Sebastian Yarrik, Old Bale-Eye, killed an Ork boss in a duel and lost an arm. I mean you watched it. An incredible feat for an inaugmented human. The Orks think of him as the greatest humie warrior and are actually disappointed that he is so small. They captured him once and he managed to play the Orks against each other and escaped by starting a revolt. He understands the orkish mind pretty good and had a laser installed in his eye bc the "Gaze of Gork", which the orks believe to be the punishing gaze of one of their gods. Yarrik is a hole story in itself and many are disappointed that Games Workshop let him die off-screen in the latest edition.
