Regarding the careers vs classes, I think everyone agrees they should be listed in the rules alphabetically. Especially since class doesn’t have any relevance in actual game play. Having said that, if you look at the very top of each page, you’ll see which class the career is in. On your walk through, the video didn’t show the very top of the page but it does list the class tied to each career. Well done on your videos, btw. I really enjoy them.

Timely video! I recently swapped my BX game over to WFRP 4E after years of trying to get folks interested and we are loving it so far. Its a huge change to the table but the simulation aspects of the game are jiving with everyone really well. I've been trying to get another group interested but it's hard to get folks to look at anything other than the ampersand game. Edit: it says what class you're in at the top of the right page, BTW!

One of the best reviews of a rpg book and its rules. Your review couldn't have been any better. Congrats! Most of others making "reviews" just flip pages and literally keep saying how the art looks great so the rules must be good, too.
@TheBattlinBarrowGaming4 ай бұрын
Thank you, really appreciate this. I like you, when watching reviews on rulebook want to know about the rules. Sure a bit about the art is OK but it's the rules that matter. I get you can't give away all the rules. I tried here to find that balance going over the rules I really liked

I fully agree, Warhammer FRPG so far ahead of DnD. And the starter set is simply in a different league. The adventure is superior to anything WotC ever put in one of their starter sets. And they include beautiful dice from Q Workshop, not the cheap ugly ones DnD put in. But the starter set is worth buying for the Guide to Ubersreik alone. There's so much in it, you could run a whole campaign just with that guide alone. What I also like about Warhammer FRPG is that exotic races are not playable and elves and dwarves are rare. And I like it that way.

The way introduce players to the Old World is they can only start off as human. If that character dies and the players show a good understanding of the world and it's lore, they can try a halfling or dwarf as their next character. I have, as of yet, to have an elf PC in the game.

Great review! I love WFRP. Like yourself I've played 1e, 2e and 4e. Skipped 3e altogehter as the system just didn't appeal to me at all. I have a love/hate relationship with 4e. It's great, but it's also a little bit crunchy in some areas. It takes a little while to get into, but once you've got it I think most people will love it. Please do more WFRP content! PS: Only the _attacker_ deals damage in combat, even if the _defender_ has more SLs. But some Talents and Traits allow a defender to cause damage as well.

One note, you don't lose consciousness immediately at 0 hp, but get like a critical prone, it's when you've been at 0 hp consecutively for your toughness bonus rounds you lose consciousness. So your still able to fight but are very precarious, that's at least from the first rule book.

I’m currently running 2nd edition WFRP. What are the main differences between 2nd and 4th edition?
@TheBattlinBarrowGaming Жыл бұрын
THe main one off of the top of my head is resilience and resolve, similar in concept to fate and fortune. there is a free conversion guide preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/318413/wfrp-4th-edition-conversion-rules this may be useful to see whats different.
@jackdillon5903 Жыл бұрын
At the moment, I'd say 2nd Ed has more in the realm of content (magic, chaos, maybe lore) but C7 is continuing to reduce that difference every few months. One major difference in the ruleset is that 2nd suffered from the "whiff" factor in combat. Starting characters would repeatedly miss in combat resulting in long battles of multiple failed rolls. 4th Ed largely fixed this with "opposed rolls". A character's low attack skill might result in a poor roll but since your opponent's low defence skill does the same, the overall result is a hit. Whichever succeeds/fails more determines the extent of damage. The same mechanic is used for many skills (stealth vs perception).
@michakalina52295 ай бұрын
I belive that combat is more compicated in 4e. I runned a commbat once on a session while playing 4e and i would preferred to run it in 2e.

Better? depends. I will agree it outdoes anything from 2nd edition forward. I will also say Warhammer 1 and 2nd editions are also better. I like the superior setting dynamics the grittier aspects and the lack of play balance pandering. Everything D&D 2nd forward has been too much about mollycoddling players that just want to have everything spelled out, no imagination required. And heaven forbid a PC actually dies. BECMI and AD&D 1st are good games. But the game was increasingly whored out for the sake of selling books. Anyone buying D&D 5th 2024 has more money than brains. Warhammer adventures are vastly more fun. D&D is just an endless series of monsters to bash in Dungeons. No politics intrigue or real reason to roleplay.

I'm a bit disappointed in the base rulebook critical wounds tables being a bit weakly themed. There isn't really a hierachy for say the head being more devastating.
@TheBattlinBarrowGaming10 ай бұрын
I quite like them. There is an instant death on the head shot? so it starts as a mere graze between 1-10 and then if you get 0-00 its instant death
@scelonferdi10 ай бұрын
@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming Thing is: there's insta death on 0-0 everywhere. The injuries are moderately themed but even stun isn't that much more common (well kinda) and even on the head there's a lot of bleed (although bleeding out from head injuries is somewhat uncommon afaik). Personally I preferred the old Wh40k RP (rogue Trader in my case) crit tables, which had a table for each combination of body part and damage type (rending/cutting, piercing, concussive and energy iirc).
@didierleonard71255 ай бұрын
They fix it in the book "Up to Arms" for the Warriors : The head is the only section critical hit table stay up to 100: the others can reach 136... less lethal ? nope. When you get damage into the Neg Wounds, your critical rolls add +10 per wounds below zero... With a table topping at 100, lots of hits too a header under 0 will roll on the ground, separated from the neck.

Warhammer is a tabletop RPG for the adults while D&D is for kids & Liberals.

@@jameshenderson4876, exactly my thoughts on the original comment. Let alone the fact the right-wingers stole the word "liberal", historically meaning right-leaning economic beliefs - like all things right-wingers do, steal -, and misused the word ever since.

@@jameshenderson4876Satire definitely lies at the heart of the 40K setting. But the Old World draws more of it's inspiration from the Thirty Years War. I tell all new players in session zero - you can play your characters how you want, but understand something, in this setting anything that is seen as being a deviation from the norm will be understood to be due to the malign influences of the Ruinous Powers and be met with righteous fire. Because in this world it's safer to burn first, ask questions later.
