I haven't seen the new codex, but from what I hear from reviews they have put effort into further homogenizing the chaos legions, as such I'm not sure if warpsmiths will unlock more Obliterators or Mutilators. Either way the song "Iron Warriors" by HMKids is quite glorious.

Destroying the Obelisks is a terrible risk and gamble, the Eye of Terror would grow in size and swallow Cadia but the Obelisks also create a stable entrances/exits from the Eye of Terror. Without those routes leaving or entering the Eye is a case of casting yourself at the mercy of the Warp and trusting in the True Powers to send yourself somewhere useful and in one piece.

Well in the 13th black crusade as was played out we Imperials (as I was then) did basicly get arse-raped losing overall on so many fronts due to having no cohesion and Cadia got virtually melted to oblivion. The only reason (as far as I could tell) that they didn't have chaos overwhelming the gate was because they didn't expect them to do so well.

the dark mechanicus invented it and the iron warriors spread it, but Obliterators aren't their SOLE property, Obliterators have been known to work on their own or for other chaos warbands all the same. They have the largest ties to the cult but the cult and the iron warriors are still separate from each other. The Iron Warriors themselves are massively formidable in their own right either way, so I don't see what the problem is. Again, Iron Warrior Vindicators, man.
