What you say is true. But NRIs also include OCI or PIO holders. People who had to give up Indian citizenship because they hold a different citizenship or their kids who were born outside of India and are not Indian citizen. I think PIO are defunct now.

@warikoo Hello, Nice detailed video from your end and very thankful for that. Would you shed some light with the couple of queries regarding Demat account and Tax return. Question 1: Can NRI open an NON PIS account with the help of NRE so, in future there is a window open if one wants to sell the short term or long term invested stocks and transferred earned money in respected foreign currency or transfer it to NRO? Question 2: How tax return work for NRE + NON PIS account combination? Do NRI only need to file tax in India only or have to show at both countries? What is the legal stand on it? Is there any such thing double tax avoidance provision?

Hi Ankur, do you see any downside for an NRI to use Indmoney to invest in mutual funds and stocks? Its much less complicated to open an account in Indmoney as compared to Zerodha. I already have an NRE account so I can only open a PIS account with Zerodha. Would yoy know what are downsides of PIS and if they can be a problem at some point? And thank you for your videos around personal finance management. Like many others, I wish I had known about your videos before. I have always wanted to invest but didnt know how to start. I have been working for 10 years and now (hopefully), I’ll start something. You have given me a lot of confidence to start, so thank you very much 🙏🏽

Great video, thanks!! I am thinking the partner banks you mention are partners to Zerodha, there are several others which offer PIS accounts. SBI for one, but is quite complicated and archaic, given their platforms, I must say.

Hi ankur , great video . But you forgot to mention about KYC. That’s most important in order to get dmat account. If a NRI is not in india then it can be little tough. He might need to go to local Indian embassy to get documents attested .

I have one concern with NRO account. Indian govt will charge some tax on my interest earned and principal. Why would I want to pay tax with NRO when I don’t have to pay any tax on opening an NRE account? Also I don’t have any income source in India. So shouldn’t NRE account with PIS be a clear cost effective choice for me?

Thanks a lot Sir for this video. This is quite informative however there is always a confusion regarding the tax on capital gains for NRI. For domestic investors , there is not TDS on capital gains however considering NRI , this is always a confusion. Do NRIs have to pay both TDS as well as capital gains tax ( LTCG / STCG ) or they just have to pay just capital gains tax. Please clarify . Thanks in advance.
