Wario's Woods (SNES) - Vs. Com

I know I haven't gotten far in the video but this video is an instant win in my opinion I adore Wario Woods the SNES version. It just has a charm of its own unlike the NES version.

I'm so glad you're a fan of Wario's Woods. Fans of this series are few and far between. It doesn't help that Nintendo has not once revisited this series in thirty years. Even after all this time, it's still such a unique puzzle game. As much as I love it, it's not hard to understand why it never became popular. Most puzzle games are easy to learn and hard to master, but this one has a steep learning curve that most folks don't have the patience to overcome. On top of making combos, you have to learn the nuances of controlling Toad, who has a surprising number of techniques. But I don't have to tell you that learning this game is well worth the effort. I've been hoping for a new Wario's Woods for most of my life now, though I'm not holding my breath at this point. At the very least, I'd love a romhack that makes all of the characters playable. Even if they don't have special traits or anything, it'd just be really cool to play as them.

The names of the opponents are interesting, Harley Q is a reference to Harley Quinn in Batman and Lizardon later became Charizard's Japanese name in Pokemon. It's debatable that Sam Spook is Wario in disguise but I can't be sure.

I really don't like how you can just... hold a diamond in this version. In the NES version, they're just too heavy, so you have to deal with where they spawn and bring the coloured bombs and creatures to the diamond, adding more challenge to using a diamond, but the reward being fair.

I used to feel the same way. I started with the NES version, it was also my introduction to Wario as a kid, and I didn't play the SNES version until later. So when I did play the SNES version a few years later, it wasn't quite what I was used to, but eventually it grew on me. On one hand, having to work around the diamonds in the NES version requires more thought, but on the other hand, the changes in the SNES version make for a more fast-paced and competitive battle. This SNES exclusive Vs. Com mode is also a lot more enjoyable than round game mode, hence why I've only uploaded a SNES playthrough. I have more nostalgia for the NES version, but I think the SNES version is the superior game. They're both wonderful though, and while it's been thirty years, I'm still hoping we get a new Wario's Woods some day.
