Also not everyone is born gay, studies have shown that there is many ways one can grow up to be gay do to various things. Sure its not nearly 100% but it still exists. Also saying someone is feminine isnt offensive because being feminine isnt bad. So if every part of it is partially based in fact and none of it is harmful how is it deeply offensive? Sure its a bit stereotypical, but again its hardly offensive. Overusing words when they dont fit is what makes people take those situations and words less seriously, its a boy who cried wolf situation. Pink krytonite turning him gay is just a joke, and a pretty lighthearted one at that, I dont know why people act like its incredibly offensive. Phones would not have changed the ideological alignment of many Slytherin students. Creating Horcruxes: Voldemort's creation of Horcruxes to achieve immortality was a secret plan he carried out alone. Even if allies had known about his Horcrux obsession, they likely would not have known the specifics of how he implemented it. Phones could not have exposed or prevented his Horcrux magic. Influencing the Ministry: Voldemort infiltrated the Ministry of Magic and influenced key officials through fear, bribery, and the Imperius curse. Modern communication would not have prevented these types of Machiavellian manipulation tactics. Conspiring with Death Eaters: Voldemort met secretly with his most loyal Death Eaters to conspire and plan using protective charms and secret locations. some Ravenclaw witches and wizards tend to have qualities that would allow them to develop the skill for limited wandless magic: Intelligence - The natural ability to understand, reason, and think critically about complex magical concepts. • Curiosity - The desire to experiment, research, and discover the secrets and nuances of magic. • Work ethic - The diligence and determination to study and practice magic for years to develop the type of focus and control needed for wandless spells. While Ravenclaws are known for their intelligence, creativity, and wit, their thought processes and abilities often manifest in unique ways that set them apart from others. The traits that define Ravenclaws, including intelligence, wisdom, creativity, and curiosity, can lead some Ravenclaws to develop prodigious talents at a young age. However, for many other Ravenclaws, these traits simply result in above-average intellectual abilities and aptitudes for learning. Given their distinctively clever and insightful nature, even Ravenclaws who are not traditionally considered 'prodigies' can still think, perceive and excel in ways that set them apart from their peers.

9:19 um, actually, this is because the intention is not to keep all other houses out like the other common rooms. Funnily enough these riddles ARE fairly secure because apparently (at least i remember reading this somewhere) witches and wizards by default are less logic based in their thinking due to them being magical creatures and magic is basically the opposite of logic.< Most muggles, if they could somehow get into Hogwarts, would be able to get into the Ravenclaw common room while only a few non-ravenclaws would and those who would be able to were most likely considered for Ravenclaw to begin with (McGonagall was a hat stall and could easily do it and while we did not get evidence of it, we all know Hermoine would be able to and the hat was also considering putting her in Ravenclaw) Hufflepuff's "password" is a just knocking the correct barel in the basement. you gotta knock on a specific barrel in the tempo of "Helga Hufflepuff" if you fail you get doused in vinegar. This password never gets changes and cleaning off vinegar from yourself is basically wizard 101 so it does feel pretty tame.

Um actually, even though I'm way late to watching this and Brennan was correct in saying that the key components of the lightsaber were 'kyber' crystals, that is not the only part wrong with this. Jedi training does in fact involve hand-creating their own unique saber and powering them with kyber crystals typical found through the trials in Ilum's crystal caves, but as of current canon, which includes when this came out, Sith training does not include this. They can fashion their own blade but are encouraged as part of their training to claim the Blade of a defeated Jedi and focus their anger and pain into the contained kyber crystal, to literally bleed it as kyber is a living entity. The resulting intensity and instability of the process is what shifts the blade to its red color.

I kind of like that. It sort of harkens back to the original films. I always thought it was implied that Vader only had a saber as he was a turned Jedi, with the red indicating the turn. It was surrly implied that the emperor never used a lightsaber and nor did Yoda
@Peter_Larsen2 жыл бұрын
Also, in the old continuity, no naturally occurring red crystals existed. All Sith crystals were synthetically grown or were passed down from Master to Student. So Sith never used Kyber crystals, new or old continuity.

@michaelwallace94612 жыл бұрын
@@Peter_Larsen How old is the old continuity? Does it predate the end of the original trilogy? As I say, in my head - based on just the OG - sith (or rather the baddies, as they weren't called sith in the films), NEVER used lightsabres. Only jedi used them, and then only jedi knights, yoda never needed them. Vader was only an exception as he was a jedi who turned to the darkside - his red lightsabre symbolised him being a knight who turned to the dark, like the black knight in Arthurian myth. The idea of the emperor of the OG using a sabre seemed absurb. I like it when it was small and symbolic, rather than muddying it with all the canon.

16:36 not sure if anyone else has said this, but basically back in earlier queer history, stereotypes were far better for queer representation at the time than they’re seen today. A stereotype was basically a way that could be used to identify the sexuality of a character without explicitly saying it and risking getting censored or blacklisted. They became a way for gay people to find others like them without being out in an unsafe world, and were generally embraced by the queer community. Rock Hudson insisting on adding gay stereotypes was his way of letting the world know that he and his characters are gay in a way that didn’t remove his voice from the canon.

Um, actually... we were rewatching and noticed an issue with the entire question! Jules Verne wrote "Vingt mille lieues sous les mers" originally in French. While known as "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" due to the popularity of the film, it was published as "20,000 Leagues Under the Seas" originally. Seas, plural! This changes the entire structure of the sentence and helps communicate the understanding that the submarine is traveling 20,000 around instead of down.
@spelcheak Жыл бұрын
How about rewatch the beginning and learn how the show works? It’s not a question it's an incorrect statement. The whole point is to correct that leagues isn’t a measuring depth, that isn’t anything to do with the title it’s just how the unit works (like stories measure the height of buildings, leagues measure across water). Seas over sea doesn’t change the structure of the sentence but it might help someone ignorant of the answer to figure it out. It wouldn’t be much of a quiz if all the corrections could be figured out just by paying attention.
@Judg3m3nt Жыл бұрын
while a fun fact, I think changing seas to plural doesn't specify it is travelling across multiple of them. People often use plural as just a general phrase. "I've ridden the high seas for years" doesn't actually have to mean I've been to more than one ocean. I could just be stating that I've sailed on the ocean for a long time (another example in what I just said; being that many people refer to the general waters of Earth as just The Ocean, even though it is multiple bodies of water).

To clarify the "20,000 leagues under the sea" issue, Brennan was actually correct about in his assertion that oceanic depth is measured in fathoms and NOT leagues. The reason the point was not awarded is because Nemo traveled 20,000 leagues in DISTANCE, while being underwater in the sea. This would be like describing a long hike during a hot summer day as "100 miles under the sun".
@Bjasileus2 жыл бұрын
you surely could describe depth in leagues though, which was what brennan was objecting to. Leagues, like fathoms, are a measurement of distance.
@andrewurban61082 жыл бұрын
A League and a fathom are planar/directional by definition. A league is a measurement of distance traveled on or in a parallel reference plane to the surface of the sea or ground. The origins of the word are attributed to the measurement that a Roman legion would travel in an hour. The historical length of the league is dependent on where you were and whose standard of measurement you were living in. Fathoms is always depth. It would be incorrect to say I walked 20 fathoms. A mile, foot, meter, etc. is omni-directional meaning that a foot is the same no matter the direction. If you were in a submarine you could say we are at 6 fathoms and direction is implied. If you were to say we are 36 feet you would have to add the word depth to indicate direction. Measuring depth in leagues is also useless because the level of accuracy is terrible. Fathoms were used primarily for ships to know the depth of water in shipping channels, around reefs, etc. So yes they are both measures of distances but they have very different meanings and are not interchangeable.

They only really use the puzzles in front of other houses because they go 'Yeah they're the smart ones, that makes sense' and use the password any other time because nobody can be bothered to know the answer to every riddle."

The complaining about the lax of security in the ravenclaw tower made my day, because all we actually know is that Gryffindors password is the only “secure” one. All we know for Slytherins password is the “pure blood” in second year, which could always be the password, but just going on a limb and guessing passwords such as “serpent” and “Salazar” would probably be future and past passwords, and Hufflepuffs password is literally just hitting barrels to the tune of “Helga Hufflepuff”… Gryffindor is the only house that has changing passwords that no one could guess… I mean, where would you ever pull out “caput Draconis” on a whim?

Certainly Gryffindor shouldn't have a password at all, though, right? Their whole deal is bravery, so they should let whomever come into their common area because they have nothing to be afraid of. Hufflepuff's code is fun, Ravenclaw's password requires a thirst for knowledge, and Slytherin's password requires you to say some evil shit. Gryffindor is the only house that doesn't match their password to their house's defining trait.

Well with ravenclaw the riddle changes everytime

Maybe Griffyndor's use of passwords has something to do with their connection to knightly orders?
@MarK-wh2oo Жыл бұрын
Kind of not random, I guess, since the Hogwarts motto is to not tickle the sleeping dragon....and griffindors are just like, I'll put the bitch to sleep, yeah!

turtle.dummy_658 the issue still exists that it's the equivalent of having a password vs just having to solve a captcha. The issue isn't if it changes, but that the answer can be reasoned out, instead of being picked out of ten's of thousands of existing words

15:10 Um, actually brief exposure to Gold Kryptonite is known to strip Kryptonians of their powers temporarily, with extended exposure being able to permanently remove them.

Um actually, depending on which side you consider canon, sith either got their crystals from 'bleeding' a crystal from a fallen jedi's lightsaber (A practice of pouring dark energy, anger, etc into it until it turns red/bleeds) OR their crystals were actually synthetic ones that emitted the red beam. In both versions, the sith never visted the planet themselves

Um actually, The whole bleeding thing is from star wars legends. Which is now confirmed to be extended universe non cannon
@MetalGamer6662 жыл бұрын
The bleeding thing is dumb. You shouldn't have to be an angsty dweeb to become a sith. I can't imagine Palpatine going through this to get his red lightsaber (which he shouldn't have anyway).

@Theodore MacAulay It could work if they followed the "rules", but no one does.

There are two variants of pink kryptonite. The first one makes him gay, the second turns him into a woman. Both are offensive. Gold kryptonite makes him lose his powers, and only makes him lose his powers permanently* if he's exposed to it long enough. *Platinum kryptonite can give anyone kyrptonian powers by touching it, I'm sure plenty of other things can too.
@bluescreen2373 жыл бұрын
if you're a human who touched platinum kryptonite do you get affected by the other kryptonite
@nicolaszan18453 жыл бұрын
Why exactly do so many weird minerals with such rare effects exist? What even makes the Kryptonians have those effects when exposed to those minerals?
@centurion23963 жыл бұрын
Well the pink kryptonite was a parody of the 50s, 60s and 70s absurdity of the superman comics...so it's not offensive, it's literally made to make fun those comics. (It's not even canon that it exists in any long running eras like the new 52 or the rebirth).
@MatthewCJoy3 жыл бұрын
Hardly offensive, a bit stereotypical sure but hardly offensive. Getting so worked up over something so small just goes to show how good we have it to get offended by such a small thing. The girl part isnt even offensive or stereotypical, pink is just tied to females because of colors traditionally used for babies, it's as ridiculous as saying blue kryptonite turning Supergirl into a boy is offensive.
@Aisha_Luv3 жыл бұрын
@@centurion2396 god, you cishets simply cannot understand that using gay people as a joke is offensive. Especially the way turned him into a stereotype. And the woman thing is transphobic.
