Love this basing. Doing pike and shot myself might do the same

funny you should mention pike and shot... just painted up a scots batalia epic box as I dip into the period. Will upload a video soon of them. similar basing...large bases for pike block and the rectangle ones for other units.

@scotty7906 awesome looking forward to it I have the starter box and got a battle set ( starter set + a cavalry wing ) + another cavalry wing. I despise painting the musketeer but enjoy the horses

Nice with the clear lines of heavier infantry unist and more open skirmisher and cavalry bases :)

Thanks very much for putting this up, I am really enjoying this series of videos. Also good to see the basing system in action working with the HC rules. The opening with the penalties of pre-game casualties and the disorder of crossing the Trebbia does a good job of reflecting how the real battle opened. I like the situation shown in turn 5 as the ordered lines start to break down. Is it difficult to maintain the Manipular blocks for the Romans so that they get that internal support. I have seen one other vid on the battle and they used the Manipular system to swap out a damaged unit and replace with a fresh supporting unit. I need to start reading my HC rules. Any looking forward to the continuation, thanks for sharing your time.

P.S. no idea why, but when I hit the ‘Thumbs Up” it turns black, but does not count up …. It still shows zero - strange!

Many thanks. Yes I agree the pre-battle penalties do help to make the battle more historical. I was very keen to get a least one combat using the Manipular system just so I could try it and thankfully I did get one combat and it seemed to work fine. My biggest errors was not having none roman units supported. Warbands can be devasting with that wild fighters rule and Elephants are definitely a challenge to deal with. The small regular roman units can be tough as well with the special rules.

I'm pretty sure that when a unit is hit by a ranged attack roll of 6 it must take a missile break test, not become disordered. Also a unit of velites has 2 short range and 0 long range.

nice one thanks. one of the reasons I made the video is so people could identify my mistakes.. appreciated I will update my stats for the velites and change the 6 disorder/break test.

@@scotty7906 I'd also consider how your basing effects the rules. For instance a libyan infantry is usually 3 bases while a roman hastatii or principies is 2. So at around 38:45 with normal bases you'd have the libyans fighting the hastatii with the principes in support. I didn't see the dice rolls but it seems like you might have allowed the romans to fight the libyans 2v1. You might want to consider house ruling restrictions on unit engagement to make it more closely match what was intended.

A unit thst loses melee against elephants still rolls 2 D6 but the opponent can get them to reroll one of them.

ahhh nice one.. thanks.. I did think the elephants were toooo powerful. I must have misread it.
