When the SSL G-Master Buss gain reduction meter is set to 2:1, it will display more reduction compared to when it is set to 10:1 (or 4:1). This is due to the soft knee behavior at lower ratio values and the hard knee behavior at higher ratio values. Looks like they included this behavior in the clone

Thanks! Great review. Thinking about getting one on the SSL Fusion Insert.

Wow - The way the acoustic guitars opened up when you turned the threshold!! Now I want one!

i love the way you made this video. at first you're like i am (just got it) and you gave yourself time after the intro to dive in. makes it so much easier to grasp what you're doing instead of someone being an expert right off the bat and things going over my head.

Very good demo, it sounds exactly like that. I have one, and use it for tracking and warming up tracks on the way in. It's great to control peaks and even out the audio, so the recordings get very easy to manage in the daw. It's a real workhorse.

Thanks! So far I'm really enjoying it, and I'm looking forward to getting to know it better over the years!

Cool.. I'm flirting the idea of going hybrid and I'm evaluating my options for channel processing or bus processing -for deepness and "3d" fullness- Anyway nice job, and thanks.✌️😎

YES! I love Warm Audio, they have really nice gear for a reasonable price. The bus comp sounded great on all of your tracks, very impressive indeed. It really came to life on the mix bus, though! What a great little piece of gear, a fine addition to your studio, no doubt! Also, thanks a lot for a (yet another) great video and an optimal review.

Thanks Tal! I definitely had high hopes for it on the mix bus. But now I love it so much on drums, I'll have trouble dislodging it from there 😊I think that I might be a believer in Warm Audio now.

I agree. Not a bad price. I just got it for around $600 open box unit

I keep putting it off...and now I've got a couple of new compressors on the way to add to the fold. But hopefully I'll get that video done soon!

That's a pretty nice compressor. You got that ELO drum sound out of it.

I'm pretty smitten with it here at first. I'll see if my enthusiasm fades over time, but I'm really happy with it. I got it to keep on my master bus, but I like it so much on the drum bus that it might displace the TransY!

Hey--could I use this to record and compress directly into the DAW? I'd rather print with compression than have to go in raw and create a bus later. Sorry, I'm a noob when it comes to compression. Thanks!

At 27:10, why did increasing the ratio also increase the volume? Is that not a compression ratio, as in instead of 10-to-1 it's actually 1-to-10? Or does it just play differently with the attack and release, like a 10:1 ratio would require faster rise/fall times in order to be truly 10:1? I wonder if this is a residual effect of the auto release.
@YHRS2 жыл бұрын
At 28:45 I asked that exact same question. I'm not sure if it's a bug or a feature. I don't *think* it's related to auto-release, but I'll play with it and see.

Great sounding tracks man! I know 1176 style compressor's knee get steeper as you increase ratio, sometimes ending up compressing less at equal threshold setting. Can't say if SSL style comps work the same or not but this could explain the jump in volume you're getting

It sounds good. Like some kind of professional album

Would be nice if you turn on and off the compressor to compare with the raw signal.

I have the same unit here and yes it has this weird behavior on the ratio knob. But i also have a ssl bus comp in plug in version end it is acting de same way on the ratio button. Not supose to be like that when you read the instruction giben by the companie. I have another plug in bus comp from Brainworks and this one is working as it shoud ... I don't know what's going on ...

Did you ever get to the bottom of the volume increase on higher ratios?
@geoffaudio11 ай бұрын
also wondering this
@delsurmusic Жыл бұрын
Hello, regarding your final comment with the ratio you are hearing right. The reality is that compressors behave different and some , like this one ,changing the ratio also has an impact in the threshold, this is very common and beautiful because it makes use our ears!. Great video, I think I will get one for my studio too!.

Thank u for the demo. So when a source is plugged into the side chain input and the side chain button is engaged, at that point, is the hpf controlling only the frequency of the side chain? The manual is so confusing when it comes to that.

Honestly the attack is far to quick on drums, bass and guitars. Try 2:1, 10ms attack and Auto release and hypass auround 100hz=> instant magic on almost anything
