Good advice from Victor! Coordination of embouchure with air column while keeping time with ones foot (and a metronome), is a solid way to learn to produce surefire attacks, as well as, the necessary way to gain consistency and confidence in the upper register. I believe Carmine Caruso advocated this approach, as attack and upper register placement of notes with one's embouchure, is similar to a refined golf swing. Without the consistency gained through learning to attack notes in time (with breath or tongue), one will find it difficult to articulate properly or the the coordination necessary to produce a solid tone in the upper register. For anyone, pro or amateur, to stay happy with their trumpet playing requires daily practice and playing. My dad who played described it as a ball and chain (just like some spouses are described) but also a labor of love, of course. I found a Genie's lamp on a deserted stretch of beach here. When I rubbed it the jovial Genie appeared and offered to grant me a wish. I was going to ask for a billion dollars but instead asked that playing the trumpet would come easy to me. The Genie immediately frowned, cussed me out a bit and disappeared back into the lamp. He was no doubt a former trumpet player himself!

Doc Severinsen called the trumpet a jealous mistress. After 50 years (this was around 1990) he still spent an hour every morning warming up and practicing fundamentals.

What if I can't practice? I live in a somewhat small house and share a room with my brother so I can't practice and I don't want to use a practice mute because I feel that those don't really help me gain skill (I'm 13 so I can't drive anywhere to practice)

@Jonathan Raymond ah thank you, I'm looking forward to a practice mute but sadly because of coronavirus it won't come to my house until the end of the month

Warming up with just the mouthpiece, and practicing ‘whisper notes’ can work when you have less opportunity to practice. Practice mute also a good option, you will certainly still be able to work on lots of aspects of your playing whilst using one, even if you can’t fully appreciate the improvements when using one.

I don't know where you live but take a walk one day and you may find a quiet little place under a bridge or near some woods where you could play and not bother anyone. I play in the woods close to my home and even put a tarp up between 2 trees if it's raining.
