When I keep my elbows away from my trunk and ribs I get a much better sound. Unfortunately, I like to play in a sort of gathered up way with the elbows and inside upper arms almost hugging myself. Just like anything else, one has to put one's attention on something to correct or adjust it. Thanks so much, Ravi!

Try to have two right angles - one at your knees, one at your hips. Your weight should be mostly on your feet, followed by your thighs, not your butt or tailbone. Every part should be straight and unyawed, and hold your arms same as you do when standing.

My band director literally preaches posture all day long because we can get the best possible breath and taking a breath should be like a yawn and it should feel comfortable when playing

In HS band, outside of standing in the Jazz ensemble, I would get yelled at by my teacher for quote: "Melting and becoming one with my chair." It got to the point that he would make me stand during concert practice. Still playing a 36, and I can still blend in with the furniture like a champ. I guess posture is a good thing though...

I’m a junior in high school and I can play pretty hard pieces like arabesque but everyone tells me I play with my trumpet pointed at the floor
