2016 was a warm year for us in the Peak District so a lot of wild flowers had a much longer season of growth. Congratulations on your little fatwood haul. Fascinating video. Take care...

It's slowly dawning on me as well how we might be basically skipping winter this year. Strange... and weirding me out a bit. I've been wondering all day how I should time out sowing seeds, and what I should try to grow this coming year... feeling a little lost as a first timer, and getting no help from the confounding weather! Maybe one day I'll be growing tropical annona in New England. That's the dream! Thanks for sharing your Dad's thoughts. ATB

You're so right my friend. It is very strange and I am hoping for a cold snap in the very near future just so that we maintain some sort of natural rhythm. I hope all is well. Get some more vids up! ATB Muddy.

Very strange, but in a few weeks when the cold snap comes we will be wishing it was December again. The weather forecasters said it was going to be the coldest winter for years, or have they changed their minds again? Cheers, Steve.

I think the media are guilty of trying to send us into a hype of "the coldest winter for 50 years!" every year! I'm concerned that if we don't get a sustained period of cold weather then we shall have problems next year. Tick numbers for instance could be dangerous. ATB Muddy.

Unusual weather indeed Muddy. I said in the early 90's that we were affecting weather and friends thought me mad. I like your message...a bit like one of my favorite poems 'Don't Quit'. psalm40.org/dontquit.html and thanks for drawing attention to fatwood. Good fire lighter and tinder apparently. Learnt something there! All the best. Mark.

Muddy Paws Hi there Muddy...yeah I'm getting out. It's where I feel alive and at peace. I came across the poem about 23 years ago addicted and homeless. I was sat in a friends toilet tired and depressed and there it was on the door. I never forgot it and it's remained with me ever since. Suffice to say it's true...success may be just around the corner. All the best. Mark.

+WyeExplorer It never ceases to amaze me how the words of one person, written or spoken in the correct verse or prose can affect another so deeply. I love literature and the power it has as much as I love nature and this wonderful world we have to explore. Best wishes to you my friend. Muddy.

Muddy Paws Absolutely Muddy. What do they say; the pen is mightier than the sword. I agree. I have just started a quotes series on the Wye Explorer channel. Just done my second to upload. This one from Ralph W Emerson...If you like (free will of course) check out my-our channel. There's a few good thoughts and adventures there. It's not a sub for sub but I have subbed and it would be an honor if you connected with us. I resonate with your thinking. So many thanks for just being...there and sharing videos that inspire. All the best Mark.

+WyeExplorer I'm a step ahead of you Mark! Just been watching some of your videos and have been blown away by your natural sense of cinematography. Beautiful videos. I'm crap at swimming (sink like a stone) but was given a book last week on wild swimming and I am finding your videos very interesting. Maybe I need to man up and get some speedos! Thank you for your kind words and for the amazing work you are doing. ATB Muddy.

I've always believed this was called heart wood sir. Fat wood was higher up the tree. Heart wood being the stuff heavily impregnated in the roots....

Gorse blooming at the Solstice? Freaky. Some plant confusion here in the North Woods, too, but not to that extent. Still it will be a brown Christmas according to the forecast, so the skiers here will have to see their glass half full by going for a bike ride.

Have a photo from almost exactly 4 yeas ago when my wife and I had to hike, rather than XC ski, the McNaughton Lake Ski Trail (see my YT video of a hike around it) and came across an ethereal scene of nice green ferns going strong in the forest amidst a small amount of snow that had come down, all bathed in ground fog because of the warm temps over that meager snow. Really having yo-yo winters for a while now. This is even warmer than that year.
