I had considered the J Mascis for about a year since I got a black replacement pickguard until I found the Jazzmaster baritone in the same shop in 2018 & brought the baritone home. I'm forever a sucker for maple fingerboards!!

I believe that the Squier Bass VI and Baritone Jazzmasters have resulted in metal players “discovering” not just the Jazzmaster in general, but also they the Jazzmaster pickup as a usable pickup and that they don’t have to use only humbuckers. I don’t doubt that when they first saw photos, most just figured they’d swap out the pickups as soon as they were able to, but they quickly changed their minds after plugging in and actually hearing how killer they sounded. Prior to these guitars being available, the Jazzmaster, especially STOCK Jazzmasters were nearly non-existent in the hands of metal players. Even Jim Root’s signature JazzMaster has EMG’s equipped. However, when it comes to these models, the vast majority have kept them stock and there isn’t nearly the amount of 2nd hand modded versions out there that would have assumed otherwise prior to players figuring out how great they sounded on their own. I’d even say that the STOCK Jazzmaster is starting to really grow in over-all popularity with guitar players in general. Most often, unless they were JM enthusiasts already, when I saw a person with a Jazzmaster, it was modded with typical humbucker style pickups and they often had the pickups swapped out before actually even listening to how it sounded stock! It just seems that these days more players are willing to accept the Jazzmaster with stock pier than before

Since Warmoth has the option for a Bass VI neck I’ll use that to get my 30in scale length I really wanted the Squier but I’ll get a used regular Squier Jazzmaster and do that. Great vid
@GearStuffandThings
@GearStuffandThings 2 жыл бұрын
That will not work unfortunately. I tried that. The Warmoth bass vi neck has a proprietary neck pocket. You’ll need a fully blank body or the Warmoth proprietary body for it to work.

Looks and sounds fantastic. Here are my questions: (probably for your luthier) Were there any intonation issues with the change of scale and... Is that a 12 inch radius neck? (Because The stock neck is 9.5 and the TOM bridge is 12. Thus, mine was re-drilled and Mastery was installed...) Thanks for taking the time to do this.
@GearStuffandThings
@GearStuffandThings 4 жыл бұрын
I can answer these questions. No there were not intonation issues. Compound radius neck.

Would've been even cooler with the actual tremolo, low tunings lend well with the term, especially with reverb and fuzz. Nevertheless this was pretty awesome, I'll do this with my 60s vibe and keep the trem.

any kind of intonation work that has to be done with these necks? Does the bridge have to be moved at all? Thinking about throwing one of these on a tele deluxe
@GearStuffandThings
@GearStuffandThings 8 ай бұрын
No the whole thing with conversion necks is that they account for bridge placement. Intonation will be needed for any tuning or string gauge shift.

So a year later... how do you like it as a Baritone, do you have to take that plate off each time you want to change the strings, and if you haven't already have you considered putting a different bridge on the guitar due to strings skipping out or have you not had that issue?
@GearStuffandThings
@GearStuffandThings 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a cool guitar. I’m not sold on the pickups. No the plate doesn’t come off for string changes. The bridge doesn’t not have slippage issues at all. It’s a really great guitar overall. Unique for sure
