Yes, the tanks are M47 Pattons. Chill people. This was a film that was made in an era before the internet autist brigade could fact check every item of kit on every extra. For what it's worth it's an entertaining film from a bygone era of Hollywood war movies. Enjoy it for what it is 👍

No, that's not the biggest sources of historical inaccuracy. Beginning with the narration, "To the north stood Montgomery's Eighth Army...." when they were in Italy at the time. The film was shot on location in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range and Madrid, Spain, which bear no resemblance to the rugged, heavily wooded Ardennes of Belgium, Luxembourg and Western Germany. Aside from the initial American encounters with the German offensive, the weather during filming was also at odds with the actual battle, which was fought during waves of heavy snow. The film's major tank battle scene, and some other battle scenes, were fought in flat, bare, arid territory. The film creates the false impression that large numbers of American tanks sacrificed themselves against heavy Tiger IIs and, in the process, lured the enemy off course, which caused them to run out of gas. In reality, they were already stranded.

The filmmakers attempted to condense the Battle of the Bulge, a World War II battle that stretched across parts of Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg and lasted nearly a month, into under three hours, and shot parts of the film on terrain, and in weather, that did not remotely resemble the actual battle conditions. That left them open to criticism for lack of historical accuracy, but they claimed in the end credits that they had "re-organized" the chronological order of events to maximize the dramatic story." Yeah, but how Tigers left at that time and well.... that is reliable that would not cost too much maintenance? You can blame how the events though but as for the tanks? well they have better reasons for it, events are not sorry for my English

There was the one (tiger 1) at Bovington, and a few others; and the same for king tigers - a few, one or two “operational” (in museums) and a few others. Only way to do one of these films rightly would be to make a dozen or so “decent replicas” with the right type of engines, etc.

Wonder how M9 rifle grenades would do against king tiger tanks?
@robertcooper68532 ай бұрын
Scratch the paint on the frontal armor. Might mangle some exterior parts such as radio antenna if they hit the roof. It’s just a small HE round. Not much bang. Lots of shrapnel in a small area. Need at least a decent sized shaped charge warhead to do anything. Even the bigger bazookas we had didn’t do much unless you got a lucky hit on a track or the engine compartment in the rear.

That depends on the situation. If the M9 grenade has a good place to hide, the King Tiger will probably break down after a day or run out of something essential.

Battle of the Bulge (1965) wasn't that bad in my opinion. The filmmakers and the director did at least try their best they could, even though the M47 tanks and the movie being filmed in Spain, this film was based on the real battle being fictional at best. It's at least an entertaining and dramatic war film despite a major of flaws throughout this Cinearama epic war film.

FURY with Brad Pitt is the best Tank movie I have ever seen. Very realistic, at least by the terms of a "movie" and entertainment. I wish the director of FURY would make some more World War II era movies because they did an excellent job. This movie was a big budget film back in the day but the technology is so outdated compared to movies being made in 2024. Technology in film making has come a long way since this movie was made.

In the Soviet Union back then, the Soviet filmmakers used the real funtional German tanks. For example, in Падение Берлина (The Fall of Berlin), direted by Mikheil Chiaureli, released in 1950, 45 captured German tanks were used.
