I think Nicole Kidman did great job with the role in the movie and I think she also would've nailed it in the series I think all actors in the movie could've done as well in the series but I wouldn't trade any of the actors that played in the series either I love both and all.

When I saw the Golden Compass the movie it kinda confuses me since I don't read the book, am from Indonesia and not familiar with it. Yet when I saw the 1st season of this series am instantly fell in love with it. Season 2 is even so more phenomenal and I can't wait for season 3. All the actors, the production quality and the story just top notch for me, I loooove the shows so much.

My compliments to the producers and writers of this show for staying true to the books!!!!! There are too many book-to-screen adaptations that are lost in translation because the writer(s) want to inject "their" own story lines into the adaptation by thinking "they" know better than the author of the original books. I never thought these books would be adapted to the screen, but I am glad to see that they have faithfully done so.

I want to point something out that just shows how much respect they really have for the source material. I don't think they say "The Golden Compass" once. That wasn't the original book title. They changed it for American production. Everyone is so specific and so knowledgeable. It's really refreshing.

“The Golden Compasses” (plural) WAS actually the original title before Pullman changed it to His Dark Materials. The US publisher did get attached to this name although they used the singular “compass”, which is obviously wrong

Hopefully one day it will (or will be upscaled) but if they wanted to do 4k justice they would have to shoot in 4k... Then if they shot in 4k the image would have to be downscaled to a Full HD/HD screen..In either case you lose image quality or smoothness. I think the market for people wanting a true 4k picture simply isnt there. The money would be better spent on the effects, post-production e.t.c. Remember the series is meant for home viewing and not IMAX/Cinema size screens. Im not part of the production so I wouldnt know but I expect thats why.

@Broeder Pitter So its shot in 2k and upscaled? Or shot in 4k and downscaled? Or shot in 1920vs 1080p and upscaled? It actually gets even sillier than that because unless you have a 4k monitor none of the above is relevant. If however you do but it isnt a Smart TV you will need to get an HDMI cable and that has to be HDMI 2. If your TV does not have an HDMI 2 port and you only have HDMI 1 the format will be compressed as HDMI 1 isnt able to transfer enough Data....
