“Joker: Folie À Deux” finds Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that's always been inside him.
The film also stars Oscar nominees Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Catherine Keener (“Get Out,” “Capote”), alongside Zazie Beetz, reprising her role from “Joker.”
Phillips, who was nominated for Oscars for directing, writing and producing “Joker,” directed “Joker: Folie À Deux” from a screenplay by fellow Oscar nominee Scott Silver & Phillips, based on characters from DC. The film was produced by Phillips, Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Joseph Garner. Lady Gaga served as music consultant. The film’s executive producers are Michael E. Uslan, Georgia Kacandes, Silver, Mark Friedberg and Jason Ruder.
Working with Phillips behind the camera are his team from “Joker,” including Oscar-nominated director of photography Lawrence Sher, production designer Mark Friedberg, Oscar-nominated editor Jeff Groth, and composer Hildur Guđnadóttir, who won the Oscar for her work on the first film. New to the team is Oscar-nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips (“Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood,” “Don’t Worry Darling”). Ruder is the film’s executive music producer and the music supervisors are Randall Poster and George Drakoulias. Casting is by Francine Maisler (the “Dune” films, “Challengers”).

Yeah it's kinda wild to me that people didn't get that when it was announced. Like, had they never seen a movie musical before? They're some of the most iconic movies in all of cinema history and somehow people just acted like the only musical to ever exist was Hamilton. Oh my god wait was it just hamilton? Did mass audiences only know hamilton and think that all musicals would be singing and dancing in every scene and not just songs intermittently? I genuinely can't think of any other reason, for the last 70 years of theatrical history, that was the prevailing format, and one of the very few exceptions was also the second show since Oklahoma to break into the public zeitgeist (the first show was Rent for anyone curious)

Alright, listen up. I’ve finished the premiere night of this movie so let me give you all a heads up. I won’t be spoiling anything but for the love of god, don’t waste your money on the cinema. Either download it or wait for a streaming service to get it. It won’t be long anyway. The marketing team did an amazing job at this literal definition of wasted potential. First off, this isn’t a movie, it’s a musical. There are at least 15 scenes where they sing. Not even joking, it was genuinely pissing off everyone in the cinema. Second, Harley doesn’t play any significant role, whatsoever. It’s only a huge hype around Lady Gaga and that’s exactly all it is: hype. She’s only there because Lady Gaga plays her and for filling up screen time, which is genuinely pathetic, sad and a huge waste. It wouldn’t have made a difference if Harley was part of the movie or not. Third, there is no depth and there is no storyline. Is nothing like the first movie which I truly enjoyed. The only thing this second movie is doing is piggybacking off the first movie’s success. Fourth, the ending is trash. Like, unexpectedly trash. Not only do you sit through this entire movie disappointed and continuously wanting for more without the movie ever delivering it but the end is so bad that you won’t actually believe that they went there. Actually, you will because of the utter disappointment that was the entire movie. Fifth, our biggest cinema in The Netherlands - Pathe made us sit through no less than 30 minutes of commercials on its premiere night. All in all, this has been a huge waste of time, money and negative energy. Save yourself the trouble and just watch it for free with extremely low expectations.

2:04 It's such a small thing, but that little turn he does after Harley says "It's ok, baby" feels SO MUCH like the Joker to me... like, it's not a natural turn you'd see a normal person do - it feels like it's choreographed, i.e. it's an act that he's putting on, so it's like a subtle sign that even though he may not look it, he's in total control of what's going on. It's weird to say, but that one little turn kinda gave me chills.
