I don't, personally. There was never a need for this one but it worked out perfectly. Mostly due to the strong and carefully picked cast, a near flawless director and a master cinematographer along with every other crew member. ShowMe it was because it was heavily marketed to only those who knew what bladerunner was. The whole marketing campaign assumed blade runner would be a IP that would grab people’s attention. That didn’t happen and that’s why it flopped. Films like the Dark Night and it’s sequel making a billion shows people want deeper films you just have to get them interested properly. Also it only “flopped” because of it’s over loaded $170 million budget had it only cost $120-90 million it would have been a financial success

Cyberpunk 2077 made its own way and it's for the best, yet from time to time giving amazing BR2049 visual references. When i finished CP, i remembered about last BR2049 final scene, when K laid on the stairs, slowly dying - this scene perfectly reflects my feelings. Both of them are different in the mood and storytelling and the ways of showing it, yet still existential - probably that's what made them so meaningful. And both of them are things of beauty. May be it's beauty of cyberpunk genre itself, i don't know - yet remembring Deus Ex MD melancholy atmosphere with magical Michael McCann soundtrack which i can listen for ages in any case.

Almost every character and every scene has enormous depth to it even if it is sometimes told in the subtlest ways. I am now basically obsessed with it. The only thing I can't forgive is that they revealed who the child is instead of letting the viewers come to a conclusion by themselves.

Spot on. This is the only trailer I watched before watching the film and I'm glad I did cause the ones after reveal too much. This should be enough for people, though with Sony's track record of marketing and trailers, I wouldn't be surprised if people reacted poorly again. The visuals alone sell you on this film and I'm getting tired of minor/major plot points or moments being teased in a trailer, spoiling any surprises.

Yea I tried to show my family the first Blade Runner because I had never seen it yet and 2049 was close to releasing. When it was finished I wasn't completely blown away but it was a damn cool film and it got me thinking about the concept of living and consciousness and all that. But my family on the other hand just said it was weird. I couldn't believe it. Out of the entire movie all they got out of it was, weird. Some people just don't see that movies aren't purely an entertainment device. When these types go to see a film that's all they are expecting. They are going and shutting they're brains off.

@@Nataton-cg8zo It's a good film because the story compliments perfectly with the original Blade Runner from 30+ years ago. And there aren't any weird contradictions between the two (think of how the stars wars prequels contradict the original trilogy in a few ways). The acting is fantastic, the action scenes were stellar, the cinematography & special effects were excellent, and the soundtrack really blew me away. I could not find fault with anything in this film. Of course the younger generations will have a hard time sitting through a slower paced film that is over two hours long. This isn't another marvel film, thank god! Blade Runner 2049 is a film that requires you to actually remember the original Blade Runner and make a connection between the two films. It does require a little bit of thought, it's not just mindless entertainment like a marvel film.

Holy... There are no words that I can use to even begin to describe how amazing of an experience this was. For the longest time I've always loved the cyberpunk genre. I finally stuck my thumb out and decided to watch the original Blade Runner a day ago, I instantly fell in love with the film. I found out that there was a sequel, and keeping with the mentality of sequels being severe downgrades on their previous, I thought it would be underwhelming. Boy was I wrong. Immediately, the atmosphere struck out so wildly to me. The first scene, establishing the amazing yet familiar world of Blade Runner. This movie is a cinematic masterpiece and an absolute marvel. I wish I had heard of this sooner.

The first sequence is one of the most shocking scenes about the future that I've ever seen. We all expect the cities of a dystopian future to be horrible places. But the countryside of the future being turned into a toxic protein laboratory was not what I was expecting. I remember when I first saw this in theaters being so disoriented by that initial shot from the top of the tower. I couldn't tell what I was looking at. The beautiful flicker of the music right at the moment the camera passes over that tower serves as an ironic foreshadow to 2 hours of magical brutality.

Reloaded cost $150M and Revolutions cost even less. 2049 is over $200M, mainly due to them paying to actually create all of these insane practical sets and props, rather than just using CGI for everything.

Johnny Sobczak It's quite likely, Harrison Ford will likely have been paid $10-20 million to reprise the role of Deckard, Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto will also probably have negotiated a similar (if not quite as high) level of pay, so already that's $30 million we're talking before we consider aspects such as Ridley Scott or the film's visual FX.

Drive is one of my favorite movies but at this point I think it's clear Villeneuve is superior to Refn. He's showed he knows how to balance surface plot and abstract elements as in Enemy whereas Refn has gotten increasingly up his own ass with stuff like Only God Forgives. That being said I'd still be interested in seeing a Refn sci-fi movie. Did Ghost in the Shell do well enough for Hollywood to dig up Akira?

it´s a shame that the two Blade Runners fails in box office. The people of today don´t recognize a true work of art, but buy tickets to watch Transformers, Twilight,50 shades of grey and fast and furious. This brainless American cinema is destroying great films like Blade Runner 2049. Most people nowadays look for action instead of plot.... Shame really.

That trailer told the whole story: K is Deckard and Rachel's son. So after all the mystery Deckard is a human after all, Rachel was modified to be able to give birth ("Rachel is an experiment, nothing more") Harrison Ford yet again plays the abandoning father that his son has to search for the "truth". He is the key to the future this thing that can "bring down the wall that will start a war". Leto's character can only "make so many". So getting his hands on a replicant that can reproduce would change everything.

Am a huge Blade Runner fan and have to say the movie did not disappoint at all. Bloody brilliant story and it's connection with the original film, new characters, atmospherics/lighting is so good ( which the original also had in spades ), even the music score is extremely good.. not in the same greatness as Vangelis which there are hints and a homage within the film. Quite long but it's worth every second and every minute.

Does anyone feel that the fight scene in the downed spinner was a little over the top? Also, I found LA to be too clean compared to the original Blade Runner depiction. Perhaps this is intentional. Not sure. I definately enjoyed the movie and thought it built on the original very well. Also, did anyone here who read the book 'Do androids dream....' feel that this new film better captured the feel of the book? All the abandoned landscapes and deserts and occasional living creature kinda reminded me of some of the Mercerism visions described in the book. As well as the second guessing whether one was a replicant or not. Actually, I'm kinda let down that they didn't do more to expand on that. I thought Mercerism and the emotion-altering mood organ would have added some more depth.

People with short attention spans won't enjoy this movie. If you are one of those people that likes "light" movies and not complex stories that pay attention to detail rather than just watching it and not thinking about anything. Then.. This isn't the film for you. On the other hand, if you love a rich, deep and compelling story that immerses you within the universe. Then it's a masterpiece. My thoughts on this movie, is that it's one of the best sci-fi movies made in a VERY LONG time. It's 10/10 for me, but it's not for everyone.

Rain SIlverlight -- I urge you to try Ghost in the Shell (2017) and Total Recall (2012) and see for yourself how good they are from this trash, dont just give this movie praises where it's not due just because it's a so-called a "Sequel" to a "legendary film" , ... The prequel was so called "legendary" because in the 80s technology wasnt able to produce those effects but they made it and wowed many people... BUT in today's standard, NOT ANYMORE DUDE . You cant call such trash "legendary" anymore, you cant stick to the 80s storyline and pace and get praises from people of today. SO dont praise it just because of the prequel's name

Um.... Blade Runner is a franchise. Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? was a book turned into the original Blade Runner film by Ridley Scott. There have been several sequels in book form. Graphic novel spin off and a point and click adventure game on PC ( supposedly being rereleased ). If you watch the sequel closely you will see a marine ship ( near the sea wall. Joi is looking at it from the skimmer ). Ridley Scott has linked Blade Runner and the Alien universes together ( not everyone agrees it's the right thing to do but.... )
