This helped me out a lot dude. Why would they still sell these? Bought one from Amazon and plugged it in today and my computer pooped its pants. I was scared. Was told to order the display port 1.2 certified from a brand name and it will work.

They sell it because it's cheap and they don't put a diode across the pin it's used to power the converter but power from the monitor also comes through it when the PC is off

Pls make a video how to remove/block 20th pin. Its so difficult using a tape because the space is too small.

Just bought myself a new Asus monitor but have it hooked up via HDMI currently. I'll be testing the supplied DP cable with my multimeter soon because I want to use the G sync feature and if it's live I'll be half tempted to buy a broken GPU from somewhere and contact trading standards just to teach these big companies a lesson about supplying cheap non compliant cables to maximize profits

I want a display port cable to comnect my gpu with my monitor. I don't know if you've heard about the 3080 gpu but its a new card(relaeased in november). Do you think a gpu that new will have some protection over the 20th pin's voltage? And if not is it hard to cut the pin's cable ?

Get a branded one that has the dp+ logo on it those don't have the 20th pin connected on default

The problem is that Gpu nowadays only have 1 HDMI ports so i have to buy an expensive certified display cable

Should I add a diode on 20th pin cable so voltage dont flow from monitor to gpu. or I just add a bed switch on 20th pin So turning it off/on will bring display back ( saving unplug of cables ) ? Please reply

Yeah or buy a official cable or don't use DVI HDMI and Displayport are on every modern monitor i upgraded as well

I think i have a 20pin dp male to 20pin male, because my bios started two days ago to make some beep errors. So i found out that is a graphics card error. After searching in the net i got a feeling that this dp cable is the culprit. Now iam using hdmi cables with no problems at all. So it is possible to fix it by myself? For example is it safe to cut the wire who gives the extra voltage? In short terms can i make a 20pin dp to 19dp male? Thanks in advance

You can try to desolder the 20th pin that's what I did

The 20th pin is only supposed to be used to give the converter power but cheap cables that for example convert from Displayport to HDMI directly still got the power from the display connected to the converter whilst it's only supposed to come from the GPU side so when the PC is off but display is still powered it sends power straight into the GPU now most GPU got safety against backfeeding it still might cause errors
